Fatty Xu wanted to visit Akihabara, but Zhang Yi insisted they investigate Edo, splitting the group into teams. Zhang Yi, Zhou Ke'er, and Yang Xinxin explored the seemingly normal streets and shops of Edo, finding the city surprisingly prosperous and alive despite the apocalypse. They eventually wandered into Akihabara, a vibrant district filled with neon lights, anime stores, and maid cafes, where Zhang Yi decided to take the others to watch a performance.

Neon’s maid cafes offered far more variety than those back in Huaxu Nation.

Here, as long as you spent enough money, you could theoretically enjoy extremely thorough service.

The maids inside were all young and beautiful girls, rarely anyone over the age of twenty-five, mostly students working part-time.

Here, service was paramount. The smiles on their faces never disappeared, and they politely responded to all kinds of requests from customers.

Zhang Yi ordered several servings of omurice and some unknown Neon drinks, then sat in the back row quietly observing the place.

Once the food was served, Zhang Yi and his companions naturally wouldn’t eat it.

This wasn’t just to avoid poisoning; they also had to consider the possibility of Transcendents attacking them through the food and drinks.

But the guests in the front rows were very excited, especially those hardcore fans holding support light sticks, posters, and glow sticks, their eyes fixed on the small stage at the front, burning with anticipation.

Zhang Yi watched them but didn’t notice anything unusual.

Zhang Yi and his team were seated in the very back row. When no one was looking, he took out some drinks to replace the ones on the table, picked up a cup, and started sipping it while waiting for the performance to begin.

After all, the official activities wouldn’t start until the evening. Since they hadn’t gathered enough intel yet, he might as well just enjoy the show.

As for the troublesome matters, he would leave them to Deng Shentong and the others to handle. After all, he was the one who initiated this operation.

“Do you guys sense anything wrong here?”

Zhang Yi started chatting with Yang Xinxin and Zhou Ke’er through the internal channel.

Zhou Ke’er blinked. “Not really! I think everything here is perfectly normal, like a scene straight out of the pre-apocalypse days. It’s just…”

She paused.

“It’s too normal. That, in itself, seems a bit abnormal.”

Yang Xinxin said softly, “After the arrival of the Ice Age, human survival should be the top priority. Yet this city still has a massive amount of leisure and entertainment activities. That alone is highly abnormal!”

She gently extended her hand, wearing thin black gloves that provided excellent insulation.

“The air temperature isn’t high. But their clothing doesn’t look like it can withstand temperatures of minus sixty degrees. That’s also very strange.”

Zhang Yi slowly nodded.

“That’s something I’ve been struggling to understand as well.”

Normally, only Transcendents with strong physical constitutions or people wearing specially-made combat suits could withstand such low temperatures.

Yet throughout Edo City, people were only wearing ordinary cold-weather clothing. Even in Akihabara, you could see girls in winter-style maid outfits.

All of this was far too abnormal.

“There are only two explanations that make the most sense.”

“Either all the passersby moving about in Edo City are Transcendents! And they’ve acquired cold-resistance attributes.”

“Or, some Transcendent with extremely powerful abilities has changed their way of life!”

“For now, let’s just wait and see.”

Zhang Yi took a sip of his coffee and said indifferently.

Soon after, a host walked up to the stage, smiling broadly as he announced that today’s performance was about to begin.

“Minna-san! The universe’s number one super kawaii girl idol, Miss Terumon, is about to make her entrance!”

With the host’s exaggerated introduction, the crowd below immediately grew restless.

At the frontmost tables sat hardcore fans with headbands bearing Terumon’s name, along with a few middle-aged men in suits.

They waved their glow sticks excitedly, shouting Terumon’s name loudly.

Then, from backstage, a girl wearing a cute performance outfit walked out.

She was dressed in blue and white attire, wearing high-top boots, and carried a guitar slung across her body as she walked to the center of the stage, cheerfully waving at the guests below.

“Thank you all for your support! Atsu here is very grateful to everyone! Next up, please enjoy my newest song, ‘Humans Are Maggots’!”

Terumon’s smile was genuinely warm.

The dedication of Neon’s underground idols was something that domestic young idols back home could learn from. At the very least, they always put up a good front.

The fans below were already excitedly raising their glow sticks.

Meanwhile, backstage, the band had already started playing.

It was a small band consisting of a drummer, a keyboardist, and a bassist, with Terumon herself serving as the lead vocalist and guitarist.

With a powerful strike from the drummer, the energetic music exploded throughout the entire cafe!

Terumon’s singing was decent. As an underground idol, being able to perform as a resident singer at a maid cafe in a place like Akihabara required considerable skill.

Her sweet voice almost pierced through the ceiling.

And as she sang, the fans below stood up, waving their glow sticks and beginning to dance to the beat.

Zhang Yi was originally quietly sipping his coffee and listening to the music, but the next scene almost made him spit out his coffee in shock.

Those fat hardcore fans and the middle-aged office workers in suits were actually using their bodies—which shouldn’t have had much vitality left—to dance with all their might!

The lighting was dim, but their arms swung their glow sticks nimbly, red and blue lights flickering, their movements perfectly synchronized, forming circles and Möbius strips.

They moved fast and slow with the rhythm of the music, like a professional cheerleading squad!

Watching these guys dance with such effort, Zhang Yi at that moment deeply realized just how powerful Neon’s underground idol culture truly was.

His own right leg involuntarily began to tap along with the music.

Music had a strong infectious power.

He had forgotten just how long it had been since he last participated in a group activity so relaxed.

Even Zhou Ke’er and Yang Xinxin had a strange gleam in their eyes when they looked at the stage.

As long as you were human, you needed to engage in social activities, and you would genuinely enjoy a brilliant performance.

Zhang Yi and his two companions actually ended up watching this entire performance from start to finish.

Their original intention had just been to find a place to gather intel.

By the time the performance ended, Terumon on stage was drenched in sweat, but her bright smile was still as warm as a sunflower.

She stepped back half a step and bowed deeply to the audience.

“Minna-san, arigato!”

By the time the performance ended, over an hour had passed.

Zhang Yi checked the time and decided to leave the maid cafe.

Just as he was about to walk out, a very cute-looking maid quietly slipped a piece of paper into his palm.

After Zhang Yi walked out, he opened it to take a look.

Zhou Ke’er and Yang Xinxin immediately leaned in, their expressions somewhat unfriendly.

“Brother, what did that girl give you?”

Zhang Yi waved the piece of paper in his hand. “A contact address.”

He applied a bit of force, and the paper instantly crumbled into fragments that drifted away in the air.

“Let’s go. It’s still early. We’ll check out some other places.”
