The Wandering Souls bandit gang ambushed Blizzard City's convoy, commissioned by the warlord Wandering Phantom. The bandits, led by a scar-faced frost-type transcendent and a sniper, launched a fierce assault under the cover of a blizzard. The convoy's escorts, the Yan Cloud Guards, fought back bravely, with their deputy captain engaging the scar-faced bandit in a duel.

Deputy Captain was about to deliver the finishing blow to Scarface when suddenly, his back tensed up, a sensation of being locked onto washing over him in an instant.

In that split second, he sensed the crisis of death.

Almost purely on instinct, he dodged to the side, rolling away.

By the time he crouched into a combat-ready stance, he saw that the spot where he’d just been standing had melted away, as if something had dissolved it, leaving behind a hemispherical crater.

A sense of dread surged through Deputy Captain’s heart. He turned his head toward the direction of the attack, only to see a bearded man sitting atop a distant war vehicle, his gaze sharp as a hawk’s.

Rabid Dog didn’t look rabid at all—in fact, he seemed somewhat lazy.

Up until now, he’d just been spectating from the sidelines, with no intention of joining the fray himself.

Only when Scarface cried for help did he draw his gun.

The black gun in his hand was heavy, not something just anyone could wield. Only a specially trained marksman could handle it.

Deputy Captain frowned, his right hand gripping his longsword while his left swiftly drew a pistol from his waist.

He pulled the trigger first, aiming his gun at Rabid Dog.

But after two gunshots rang out, half of his shoulder vanished into thin air, while Rabid Dog remained seated in the same spot, completely unmoved.

Deputy Captain’s body slowly collapsed. He let out a muffled grunt, and from behind, Scarface rushed over, driving his sword straight through his chest!

“Heh! A Deputy Captain of the Yan Cloud Guard—this fish ain’t small!”

Scarface licked his lips greedily, staring at the delicious Essence before him, but he didn’t dare absorb it. Instead, he glanced over at Rabid Dog.

Rabid Dog said flatly, “A Transcendent Essence worth around 9,000 points. Don’t forget to trade it for equivalent supplies later.”

Scarface nodded eagerly. “Good, good, good! I knew you wouldn’t bother with this little stuff.”

Rabid Dog squinted. For him, at his current level, increasing his strength wasn’t so easy.

The death of Deputy Captain sent a wave of panic through the entire Yan Cloud Guard unit.

But their training kept them from falling apart. An officer with the rank of Captain quickly stepped up to take command and continue the fight.

One man dies, and another immediately steps in to lead.

However, against the overwhelming gap in power, they only managed to hold out for five minutes before being completely wiped out!

Scarface looked at the devastated battlefield and couldn’t help but let out a sharp hiss of breath.

“Whoa, we really ran into a tough nut this time! Eight of our brothers are dead. I’m going to have to go find Mr. Wandering Phantom and ask for some extra compensation!”

Scarface’s face showed obvious pain. Gathering these men hadn’t been easy. In this apocalypse, Transcendents capable of fighting weren’t so easy to recruit.

Rabid Dog quietly lit a cigarette. After a few puffs of smoke, he said, “This escort squad’s combat power is no joke. That means whatever cargo they’re transporting must be worth a pretty penny.”

Hearing this, a flicker of greed passed through Scarface’s eyes.

Although he feared Wandering Phantom, if the profit was big enough, he wouldn’t hesitate to betray his employer.

After all, in this world now, what honor or integrity was left?

He immediately ordered a burly subordinate, “Open the door!”

That subordinate was an Enhancement-type Transcendent over two meters tall. He walked over, intending to tear the door off.

But this train car, built by Blizzard City’s industry, was specifically designed to withstand Transcendents. After struggling for a while, he couldn’t even budge it.

The door used an electronic lock, only openable by someone with the proper authorization, so brute force was the only option.

Seeing this, Rabid Dog pulled out his pistol and fired a shot at the door.

The door instantly melted, leaving a circular hole. Scarface eagerly rushed inside, hoping to plunder whatever valuable supplies were being transported.

The Wandering Souls followed closely behind, searching every compartment.

Rabid Dog went in too. But inside the car, they found nothing of value.

No food, no weapons, no medicine.

“Damn it, how is there nothing?”

“At least there should be some food! With so many soldiers escorting it, how could it be an empty car?”

“Maybe it’s a return trip? Maybe the supplies have already been delivered?”

The Wandering Souls fumed with frustration.

Scarface’s expression darkened.

He ground his teeth. “After taking such a huge risk, losing eight brothers to hijack this train, how could there be nothing?”

Just then, a shout rang out from a distant part of the train.

“Boss! Come take a look at this thing!”

Scarface and Rabid Dog immediately turned their heads.

The voice came from the next car. They hurried over, and there in the middle of the compartment, they saw a massive, strange metal crate.

Several Wandering Souls were gathered around it, staring left and right. There were no keyholes or gaps visible on the surface.

Seeing this, Rabid Dog didn’t hesitate and drew his gun, but Scarface frowned. “Don’t damage whatever’s inside.”

Rabid Dog sneered. “My aim won’t even hurt a single hair on its head!”

He fired decisively, and the bullet melted away the crate’s outer layer.

Once the defensive mechanism was breached, a hiss of white gas suddenly escaped through the opening.

The Wandering Souls panicked, fearing it might be some kind of toxic or corrosive gas, and quickly backed away cautiously.

But soon, they realized it wasn’t poison. With a “click,” the top of the crate swung open.

After the white mist dissipated, they slowly approached and finally saw what was inside.

Every face was frozen in shock.

Because inside the crate was a person!

A young girl of about seventeen or eighteen.

She had thick, jet-black hair, so long it almost wrapped around her curled-up body completely.

Facing Scarface and the others, her eyes held a mix of fear and confusion.

Scarface was stunned for a moment, then pointed at her, almost in disbelief. “This is what Wandering Phantom spent so much effort to have us steal? Just a girl?”

It seemed almost absurd.

But Rabid Dog stared at her intently. “Maybe she has some special ability.”

Hearing this, Scarface leaned in, glaring at the girl. “Hey, little miss. Tell me, who are you? Why were those bastards from Blizzard City trying to take you back?”

The young girl, intimidated by Scarface’s fierce appearance, hugged her knees tighter.

“My name is Amber. I don’t know why they wanted to capture me.”
