Chapter 1305: Beheading
The intense clash between Liang Yue and Yenatai dragged on for almost half an hour.
Now, the clear gap in their gear stood exposed to everyone.
Liang Yue's exoskeleton armor offered outstanding defensive power, letting her survive deadly blows.
Yenatai's Buddha's light provided both offense and protection.
Eventually, he seized the ideal chance, morphing a Buddha's Hand into a radiant mirror that unleashed a light beam, crossing thousands of meters in a flash to hit Liang Yue.
The immense force of the attack immediately cracked the armor shielding Liang Yue's body!
Though Liang Yue evaded swiftly, damage still marred the armor on her left arm.
That said, Liang Yue proved far from weak. Amid the drawn-out, exhausting struggle, her reinforcement-type abilities' physical superiority kept her assaults sharp and fierce, even as Yenatai's Buddha's light steadily weakened.
At last, following a brutal strike, Liang Yue's longsword carved toward Yenatai's forehead bone.
It almost split the top of his head apart!
Though Yenatai barely dodged at the final instant, the near-miss drenched him in cold sweat.
That slash had fully pierced his skull!
Everyone could tell Yenatai was now deeply outmatched.
Besides, with their foes backed by a savage beast on defense, defeat seemed impossible for them.
A subordinate next to Deji blurted out, "Khenpo, Yenatai won't last much longer. If the battle goes on, he's sure to perish."
He held back the rest, which urged Deji to concede the match.
Deji whipped his head around and shot him a fierce glare, crimson flickering in his eyes.
"Quiet! We represent Sangha Monastery here to deliver justice and condemn evil. How can we lose?"
La Min Ouzhu, off to the side, remarked coolly, "Exactly. Losing to the Pagyi Family now would ruin Sangha Monastery's reputation."
Right then, she skipped mentioning the three-family alliance, focusing solely on Sangha Monastery.
After all, her La Min Family and the Xia Zha Family were just supports, not the core force.
Plus, their prior two fights had ended in triumphs, safeguarding their prestige.
Her comment aimed to corner Deji, forcing him into a tough bind.
As if! Her La Min Family had already sacrificed a mighty superhuman!
What had Deji's stance been when she sought to pull Gele back?
Now, Sangha Monastery's monks had to bleed for her cause too!
Deji's face darkened utterly, looking ready to swallow someone whole.
He gripped his prayer beads hard, spinning them with force.
Even risking Yenatai's death in combat, he'd bet on that faint hope!
Liang Yue, long sword in hand, gave Yenatai a faint smile and said, "Right from the start of this battle, victory was never yours. Do you still wish to keep fighting?"
Yenatai scoffed, "Is that so? Have you beaten me yet? Or is fear making you talk?"
Liang Yue replied, "At times, facing facts matters most. You possess great power; a vast future awaited you. Yet persisting means your death."
She let out a sigh. "If I stood in your backer's place, I'd command your withdrawal for sure."
Yenatai's mind wavered.
He recalled Chodak and Suolang Deji, who had pulled out of the fight willingly.
Both got their leader's approval; retreat brought no penalty.
But Yenatai's current bind differed.
Should he withdraw, no cover awaited him.
Sangha Monastery's dignity would shatter completely, and Khenpo Deji wouldn't spare him.
Besides, honor meant much to him as well.
Had Deji offered words to ease his exit, he might comply.
Deji stayed silent, however.
Thus, battling till the end was his sole option.
"No more chatter. Today, I battle for the esoteric sect. Death leads me to the Western Pure Land!"
With persuasion failing, Liang Yue wasted no time.
"Fine then. You picked this road yourself. I'll escort you to the Western Pure Land personally!"
She seized her sword two-handed and surged forward hundreds of meters like a storm, striking at Yenatai.
Yenatai held great strength, yet worldly ties weighed him down too heavily.
Nearly an hour of savage combat with Liang Yue had thinned his holy light to the point it scarcely upheld the Buddha's illusory form.
Ultimately, Liang Yue's blade came down, slicing clean through his head.
Liang Yue's upper armor hung in tatters, nearly obliterated. The clash had pushed her to the brink of disaster too.
Without her superior gear, victory between her and Yenatai would've been anyone's guess.
Thus, despite slaying Yenatai, Liang Yue offered this foe the honor he merited.
"No!!!"
From the Allied Forces' ranks, Deji, the battle's observer, glared with bloodshot eyes. His fist clenched hard, smashing the prayer beads to pieces that clattered and scattered over the dirt.
Yenatai's demise sealed their total, crushing loss!
A heavy hush gripped the Allied Forces' camp.
This marked Sangha Monastery's inaugural setback since setting out on their campaign.
Worse still, it happened under the Khenpo's direct command.
Soldiers everywhere drooped in despair, wilted like frost-battered eggplants.
Meanwhile, the Pagyi Family erupted in wild cheers and jubilation, their victory roars echoing across to torment the Allied Forces further.
Pagyi Gesang's face beamed so wide it threatened to crack.
After enduring two and a half years of pent-up shame, he'd finally cleansed the disgrace and unleashed a massive sigh of relief!
Right before the crowd, Liang Yue drew in Yenatai's origin. Allied Forces onlookers watched in helpless fury, unable to intervene.
Yet ultimately, Liang Yue abandoned Yenatai's body on the field.
Hua Hua dashed up, leaping into her embrace, and the woman with her cat retreated to the Pagyi Family's lines.
Pagyi Gesang approached, face alight with delight. His tiny mustache tips twitched like they were dancing as he boomed with dramatic gusto:
"Oh, praise my valiant champion! You've delivered triumph to the Pagyi Family!"
Pagyi Family members gazed at Zhang Yi and his fellow mercenaries with earnest, burning admiration.
Zhang Yi squinted, raking his eyes over the foes before swiftly checking the area around them.
Detecting no trace of the Lord of the Charnel Ground's presence, he remarked coolly, "I figured they'd rip up the deal."
Pagyi Gesang grinned. "Esoteric sect disciples honor their word. They wouldn't ditch integrity like old trash."
"A vow sworn before the four great chieftain families... Deji values his name too much to shatter it now."
He halted briefly, then continued, "At the very least, not right here."
Down the line, though, he'd surely scheme every trick to avenge today's disgrace ten times over, a hundredfold.
But that's for another time.
Regardless, amid all this uproar, Deji couldn't muster any big assaults on the Pagyi Family before the Prayer Festival gathered.
Pagyi Gesang chuckled in victory while speaking to Deji.
He promised to deliver the promised compensation goods as pledged.
Deji accepted with icy disdain, then refused to linger. Skipping goodbyes to the other two family heads, he swept his robes and stormed off.
