I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors? Chapter 620: Lightning Qilin — Gan-ge, Someone Has Passed Your Test

Previously on I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors?...
Cao Youqian boldly confronted the giant arm of a Supreme Demon God sealed in the Demon Lake, provoking it into unleashing demonic light that he endured to temper his physique through the Chaos Body-Refining Art. Though the arm believed it was corrupting him into a demon puppet, Cao Youqian absorbed the energy without succumbing and escaped to refine it overnight, emerging stronger and astonishing the Thunder Qilin guarding him. Instructing the Qilin to test potential recruits for the Dao Inquiry Sect using a treasure orb, Cao Youqian returned to the lake, grinning as he announced his arrival for another round of tempering.

“You brat, you still dare—”

The enormous hand, stirred from its deep rest by Cao Youqian, felt a wave of rage building inside. Right as it prepared to thunder a scolding at this clueless youngster, the eye on its palm snapped open too. Catching sight of the youth positioned ahead like nothing had happened, its speech stopped short all of a sudden.

“This can’t be real. How come the demonic aura around you vanished?”

Cao Youqian gave a casual shrug and grinned, “Wasn’t it due to your power falling short, senior? If not, it would’ve taken me a couple more days to get back on my feet.”

“You!!!”

Those remarks fully ignited the giant hand’s fury. As a mighty Demon God from ancient times, it found itself powerless against some Nirvana Realm kid now. Should this get out, it’d face endless mockery.

“Kid, you’ve brought this on yourself!”

With those words spoken, endless rays of demonic glow shot from its gaze and poured down on Cao Youqian.

Cao Youqian remained still, letting the demonic rays wear at his form. Gradually, he shut his eyes, a satisfied expression crossing his features.

This move inflicted no damage but piled on massive shame.

The giant hand shook with intense fury, desperate to smash the insolent youth flat in one squeeze.

Regrettably, heavy chains restrained it. Even launching those demonic rays relied solely on its lingering might.

After two full hours, Cao Youqian wrapped up his daily practice session. His eyes fluttered open, a faint smile tugging at his lips, and he offered a respectful bow to the giant hand. “Many thanks, senior.”

Then, Cao Youqian spun around and departed, leaving no chance for the giant hand to respond.

Soon enough, a wild bellow erupted from the lake depths. “You little punk, mark my words. Someday, this lord will pulverize your bones and scatter your remains to the winds!”

That bellow boomed over a hundred li. The Lightning Qilin stationed outside Five Elements Mountain caught it and couldn’t help but recoil, whispering to itself, “What in the world did Gan-ge pull off to rile up that horrifying being beneath the lake this much?”

For days on end, Cao Youqian visited the giant hand to carry out his routine cultivation. Initially, the giant hand bellowed threats and attempted to slay him with every encounter.

Yet after a handful of days, it came to see that this human youth was far from typical. It chose to observe just how far his power could climb, certain that continued growth would eventually snare him in its scheme.

This morning at dawn, a crowd of demon race folks and humans rushed up to the area near Five Elements Mountain.

Though they often clashed as enemies, right then, shared dread and worry etched across every face.

The gathered hundred races eyed the enormous stone blocking Five Elements Mountain, their pulses quickening. After a few shared looks, they shoved forth a slender human lad.

The lad hadn’t uttered a word when sharp glares from the group silenced him.

Gritting his teeth, he advanced a bit, dropped to his knees, and prostrated himself. “This humble servant arrives to honor the new emperor.”

“Visitors have shown up?”

A hesitant tone echoed from inside Five Elements Mountain. Moments later, the cultivators among the hundred races watched a Lightning Qilin emerge leisurely from the peak.

A chilling realization hit them all. This fresh Demon Emperor commanded a Qilin as his gatekeeper. What staggering strength must he possess?

The human lad gazed at the nearing Lightning Qilin, his frame quaking without control.

The Lightning Qilin peered down at the kneeling lad nearby and questioned puzzledly, “Have you come to honor Gan-ge?”

The lad had no clue about Gan-ge. Still, the grand shaman and tribal leader had ordered him to salute the new ruler of Five Elements Mountain. Once he faced the mountain’s master and voiced the tribe’s intent to revere him as a god, he could redeem his wrongs and cleanse his guilt.

So, the lad quickly responded, “To Your Majesty, yes, I’m here to pay homage to the mountain lord.”

“Acceptable.”

The Lightning Qilin expelled a pearl and instructed, “Let a drop of your blood fall on this pearl. Should it shine seven chi brightly, you can meet Gan-ge.”

“Understood.”

Though totally baffled, the lad pressed on with his duty by obeying the elder’s words. He drew his carried dagger, pricked his finger, and let a blood droplet land on the pearl.

The very next moment, the pearl burst into nine chi of radiant colors, leaving the Lightning Qilin dumbfounded.

The hundred races observing from a distance stood petrified too. They pondered what sort of wondrous item that pearl might be, to spark such a dazzling display.

After a short daze, the Lightning Qilin adopted a haughty demeanor and declared commandingly, “Good enough. Follow this king to meet Gan-ge.”

Before the human lad could process it, the Lightning Qilin gripped him gently and disappeared from the hundred races’ view.

Only after quite some time did the hundred races snap out of it and cry together, “Your Majesty, we haven’t offered our blood drops yet!”

Beside the Demonic Lake, Cao Youqian had fully purged the demonic aura from his body and tempered his frame anew. As he geared up for another cultivation round, he detected the Lightning Qilin’s presence speeding near and promptly paused.

In a flash, the Lightning Qilin touched down in front of Cao Youqian, still holding the terrified human lad in its jaws.

The Lightning Qilin released the lad and announced, “Gan-ge, this youngster cleared your trial. I fetched him here for you.”

At those words, Cao Youqian shot the Lightning Qilin an exasperated glance. “Big Thunder, you’re turning sloppier by the day. It’s merely a lad who succeeded in the test. Did you have to stir up such drama? See how you’ve frightened him half to death.”

The Lightning Qilin protested, “You never mentioned a thing beforehand.”

“Was he the sole arrival?” Cao Youqian inquired.

The Lightning Qilin answered, “Plenty of demon race members and humans showed up. I got carried away seeing his test yield nine chi of glow and ditched the rest outside.”

Cao Youqian flashed a thumbs-up. “Classic you. Nobody tops your talent for chaos. Fine, head back and check those others first, then haul them all here come morning.”

“On it.”

With that, the Lightning Qilin dashed away hastily, abandoning the confused human lad who now gawked at Cao Youqian.

“Young one, what’s your name?”

A warm, approachable grin lit up Cao Youqian’s face.

The lad replied warily, “To my lord, I’m called Xia Kang.”

“A full name with family ties. Looks like you hail from a sizable tribe.”

Cao Youqian went on, “What brings you to seek out this lord?”

Xia Kang stated, “To my lord, our tribe wishes to yield to you. We beg you to welcome our people.”

Cao Youqian responded evenly, “Agreed, though this lord sets one requirement.”

Xia Kang answered swiftly, “Name it, my lord.”

“You all must join this lord’s sect.”

Cao Youqian eyed the lad in front of him. To his astonishment, at those terms, the youth displayed no trace of delight but bowed his head and grew quiet.
