I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors? Chapter 605: A Phenomenon Descends from Heaven, All Living Beings Come to Pay Homage

Previously on I was just making up techniques… how did all of you become Emperors?...
Chu Feng establishes the Wendao Sect on Slanted Moon Mountain, explaining to his disciples that the sect’s protective formation is designed to draw in individuals of great fortune. While waiting for potential recruits, a youth named Ji Jiuwu narrowly escapes a saber-toothed tiger demon by stumbling into the mountain’s territory, where the formation neutralizes his pursuer. Cao Youqian discovers the exhausted youth and, after realizing Ji Jiuwu is a talented body cultivator from the Fire God Clan, invites him up the mountain to recover. Though hesitant, the young man agrees to follow the giant-like warrior into the sect’s domain.

On Slanted Moon Mountain, a surge of purple qi surged from the east, extending across nine thousand miles. It gathered high above the Wendao Sect, transforming into a radiant fortune light that bathed the whole sect below.

Xiao Chen and Cao Youqian sensed this fortune light right away and promptly dropped into a cross-legged position where they stood, starting their cultivation session.

Jiuwu, on the other hand, stood frozen in awe at the spectacle unfolding, letting the fortune light wash over him freely.

In Chu Feng's mind, the system's voice rang out: "Host has taken the Chosen One as a disciple, earning the approval of the Heavenly Dao. Reward: Dao Rhyme +10."

The Chosen One—clearly, this new disciple of mine is destined to rise as an Emperor down the line. What's more, he'll stand as the ultimate ruler among the human race in this vast world.

His eyes fell on Jiuwu, who lingered there in a daze, and he quickly instructed: "Jiuwu, steady your breathing and focus your mind, sit down cross-legged. Your Master will pass on a Dao Sutra to you right now."

"Thank you, Master."

As Jiuwu replied, he eased himself into a cross-legged seat on the ground. Over his time in the mountains, he'd picked up the basics of cross-legged sitting, breath control, and qi circulation.

With that sight, Chu Feng extended a finger toward Jiuwu's forehead, sending a beam of golden light straight into the young man's thoughts.

"Heaven and earth align with their virtue, sun and moon with their brilliance, yin and yang with their Dao, the four seasons with their rhythm, and all creatures with their essence. When the technique manifests, the cosmos unfolds; when merit accumulates, achievement blooms on its own."

This passage from the Dao Sutra echoed through Jiuwu's consciousness, and before long, he plunged deep into its profound wisdom.

Chu Feng left his three disciples undisturbed in their practice. With a simple pivot, he vanished from view.

Meanwhile, every creature within ten thousand miles of Slanted Moon Mountain found itself drawn to the extraordinary event manifesting overhead.

After three full days, Xiao Chen, Cao Youqian, and Jiuwu each opened their eyes in sequence.

"Jiuwu greets my two senior brothers."

Jiuwu led off by offering a respectful bow to the pair.

Xiao Chen responded first: "Junior brother, no need for all that formality. The Wendao Sect isn't bound by so many rigid customs."

Cao Youqian slung a friendly arm around his shoulders: "Eldest senior brother has it right. Junior brother, whenever you're in a bind down the road, just turn to us for help."

"Yes."

Jiuwu still struggled to accept that all this was truly happening. He'd not only pledged himself to a mighty supreme Great Witch as Master, but gained two powerful Great Witch senior brothers too. Once my training wraps up and I head back, I'll rally the tribe to rise in strength!

Xiao Chen declared: "Come on, let's head off to see Master."

"Alright."

Jiuwu agreed and trailed after Xiao Chen and Cao Youqian toward the grand hall.

Right then in the main hall, another system alert chimed in Chu Feng's mind: "Host's disciples Xiao Chen and Cao Youqian have each grasped 1 True Meaning of the Great Dao. Host's True Meaning of the Great Dao +20. Host's disciple Jiuwu has stepped into the gateway of the Natural Scripture. Reward: Host's True Meaning of the Great Dao +1."

This Natural Scripture had grown out of the Dao De Jing. Chu Feng had already mastered the Dao De Jing thoroughly within himself and saw no reason to revisit its practice.

Shortly after, sounds of approaching footsteps reached Chu Feng from beyond the hall. Moments later, Xiao Chen and the others stepped inside.

"We pay our respects to Master."

All three offered a deep bow to Chu Feng.

"Rise, no need for such gestures."

Chu Feng replied while scanning the group before him: "It looks like this heavenly phenomenon brought you all substantial benefits. Any questions lingering about your cultivation paths?"

Xiao Chen and Cao Youqian stayed silent, their gazes shifting together to their newest junior brother Jiuwu. For them, the focus now lay in grasping the True Meaning of the Great Dao. Practicing here accelerated their cultivation base growth several times over compared to the Xuantian Continent. In under a decade, they'd ascend to Great Sage status.

Jiuwu answered: "To answer Master, since grasping the Natural Scripture, whenever I draw breath and cultivate, a soothing stream of qi flows into me and pools in my lower abdomen. Could this harm my progress in any way?"

Chu Feng smiled at the words: "If that's what's happening, then you've already embarked on the immortal cultivation path."

"What do you mean by immortal cultivation?"

The term struck Jiuwu as utterly novel, prompting an instinctive question.

With a grin, Chu Feng clarified: "Immortal cultivation is, of course, the pursuit of becoming an immortal and rising to the Heavenly Realm."

"The Heavenly Realm?"

Shock filled Jiuwu's face as he stared at Chu Feng: "Master, does that mean there's a whole other realm above the skies?"

"Exactly."

Chu Feng continued steadily: "From what I've seen, the way you've been cultivating is essentially a form of body refinement. It can indeed lead to the Immortal World, but the journey drags on far too long. Blending law and body cultivation would make your ascent far more effortless.

For now, though, ascension feels distant. Focus on steady practice first."

"Understood."

Jiuwu's spirit trembled with the revelation. Immortal cultivation was a concept beyond anything he'd known, broadening his horizons yet again.

Chu Feng shifted his attention to the other two: "And you two?"

Xiao Chen replied upfront: "Master, this disciple plans to venture out for some real-world tempering."

Cao Youqian added: "Count me in as well."

"You two are eager to hit the road already?"

After a brief pause, Chu Feng nodded: "Very well, descend the mountain then."

"Many thanks, Master."

Xiao Chen and Cao Youqian voiced together.

The following day, Xiao Chen and Cao Youqian departed from the Wendao Sect atop Slanted Moon Mountain side by side.

No sooner had they started down than they spotted throngs of creatures marching toward Slanted Moon Mountain. Humans mingled with demon races and even spectral ghosts among them.

These varied hundred races, once fierce rivals, now moved in apparent harmony. Devotion shone in their expressions, their eyes gleaming with zealous faith.

As Cao Youqian eyed the demon races approaching their Wendao Sect, an urge to strike rose in him instinctively. Xiao Chen halted him with an upheld hand.

"Senior brother, what's holding me back?"

Cao Youqian queried, confusion evident.

Xiao Chen reminded: "Remember the four words Master inscribed at the mountain entrance?"

Cao Youqian: "You mean 'Teaching Without Discrimination'?"

"That's it."

Xiao Chen elaborated: "This crowd must be pulled in by the recent heaven-and-earth anomaly. Right now, they harbor no malice or urge to clash with others. Better to observe for the moment."

Cao Youqian agreed with a nod: "Senior brother makes sense; I acted too hastily."

Rather than pressing on, the pair lingered at a distance, observing as the beings streamed toward Slanted Moon Mountain.

Once most of the creatures passed into Slanted Moon Mountain's formation, they veered aside as though the towering peak simply didn't exist before them.

Just a few managed to enter Slanted Moon Mountain proper, yet even they failed to spot the stone steps to the sect at once. Instead, thick fog ensnared them.

Noting this, Cao Youqian suggested: "Senior brother, how about we select a disciple from this lot?"

Xiao Chen chuckled: "Not necessary. A quick look shows none of them suit sword cultivation. Junior brother, I'll head out first."

With those words, he spun away and faded into the distant sky. Cao Youqian didn't stray too far; he hoped to scout for promising disciples. If none appeared, claiming a mount would serve just fine.

Days slipped by steadily. Seven days on, at last, a pair of creatures pierced the fog and climbed the stone steps toward the Wendao Sect. Simultaneously, a few more broke free from the haze and moved toward where Cao Youqian waited...
