Soon enough, Qiao Chen showed up.
“Brother-in-law, how is my sister doing right now?” He hurried over to Mo Yesi and gazed at the firmly closed delivery room door.
Just like Mo Yesi, he understood there was no real danger, yet since it was his own sister in labor, how could he avoid feeling anxious?
“She remains inside the delivery room.” Mo Yesi stared at the shut doors with a furrowed brow. He turned toward Lu Rao and questioned, “Didn’t you mention it would be quick? Why hasn’t Mianmian come out yet?”
Lu Rao found himself at a loss for words. He could only estimate the timing, not control the moment of birth. “Brother-in-law, let’s hold on a bit longer,” Qiao Chen reassured him. “Sister ought to emerge shortly.” Mo Yesi pressed his lips together, his gaze fixed intently on the delivery room door.
Moments later, Qiao Ruhai got the phone call.
Mother Bai and Father Bai treated Qiao Ruhai with politeness. Spotting him, Mother Bai greeted, “In-law, you’ve arrived. Mianmian is still inside the delivery room. Please, take a seat.”
Old Madam briefly opened her eyes and shot him a look. Without a word, she shut them again to resume her chanting.
Qiao Ruhai’s favoritism toward Qiao Anxin had caused Qiao Mianmian much hardship. Being fiercely protective herself, Old Madam harbored dislike for Qiao Ruhai and thus showed him no warmth.
Mother Bai and Father Bai felt deep gratitude toward Qiao Ruhai.
Regardless, he had raised their daughter. Without his role, they might never have been reunited with her. Qiao Ruhai fidgeted with his hands, appearing uneasy. Aware he wasn’t wanted, he spotted a bench and took a seat there.
Nearly all members of the Bai, Mo, and Qiao families had gathered.
Mo Shixiu had been summoned by the foreign royal family and traveled abroad. Jiang Luoli and their daughter accompanied him. Right now, the trio remained overseas, unable to return in time.
After around half an hour of waiting, the delivery room door swung open at last.
Mo Yesi dashed forward immediately.
The first nurse to exit held the newborn infant. Beaming, she offered congratulations to Mo Yesi. “Mr. Mo, congratulations! Mrs. Mo has delivered a young master for you. See, what a lovely baby.” Mo Yesi glanced at his newborn son without truly registering his features. Lifting his head, he inquired urgently, “Where is my wife?”
Right then, two additional nurses wheeled Qiao Mianmian out. Ignoring the baby entirely now, Mo Yesi strode past the nurse with the infant to reach the cart. He leaned in and softly grasped Qiao Mianmian’s hand.
His gaze held profound depth, tinged with moisture. Fixing on the sweat-drenched Qiao Mianmian, he pressed a kiss to the back of her hand. “Mianmian, thank you.”
“Hubby, we’ve got a son.” Qiao Mianmian clasped his hand, smiling brightly. “Don’t act so somber, cheer up. Truth is, giving birth doesn’t hurt one bit. After the painkillers, it truly doesn’t hurt at all.”
To Qiao Mianmian, bringing a child into the world felt like a true gift for women.
Far less terrifying than she’d feared, it proved even simpler than expected. Fresh from delivery, she already pondered having another.
