I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 998: Departure, Research, Study
Previously on I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality...
The light of the teleportation array faded, and Jie Ming and his two companions were back in the Infernal Sulfur Plane.
Once Dixon had confirmed that the two of them were in normal condition, he prepared to return to the expeditionary force.
“It’s been a pleasure working with you. Once the other portion of the battlefield data, the part with the legion records, has been sorted, I’ll have it sent to your research terminal.” He looked at Jie Ming. “If any new data comes in later, I’ll let you know as well.”
“Much obliged.”
After a brief farewell, Dixon activated the teleportation array, and his figure soon vanished into the light.
Jie Ming was about to take Jack back to the laboratory when he noticed that his disciple was still standing where he was, as though he had something to say.
“What is it?”
Jack hesitated a moment before speaking, as if he had made up his mind: “Mentor, I want to go to the front.”
Jie Ming glanced at him, showing little surprise.
Dangerous as this expedition had been, he had spent most of it collecting data, and the chances to actually cross swords with the enemy had been few.
Staying at his side, Jack had naturally found it hard to play his part as a combat wizard.
Now that Jack had successfully advanced to the sixth level and seen the war between the wizard civilization and the Behemoth Alliance with his own eyes, it was hardly strange that he wanted to go to the front himself and build up experience.
“Have you thought it through?”
“I have,” Jack said earnestly. “I can’t stay at your side forever, Mentor. Next, I want to build up experience on a battlefield of this level.”
Jie Ming considered only briefly, then took a grayish-white doll from his storage space and tossed it over.
Jack hurriedly caught it, and when he recognized it as a Substitute Death Doll, delighted surprise spread across his face at once.
“Mentor, this is for me?”
“Keep it.”
Jie Ming shot him a glance and reminded him: “But a Substitute Death Doll isn’t all-powerful. It can only take one fatal attack in your place, and only under specific conditions. Don’t go thinking that one extra life-saving measure means you can take risks without a second thought.”
“I understand!”
With his mentor’s permission secured and a life-saving item in hand, Jack perked up at once.
He bowed solemnly to Jie Ming, then left without a moment’s delay, eager to get in touch with a suitable frontline unit.
Jie Ming watched his hurrying figure recede and shook his head helplessly.
Young people needed to make their own way in the world, after all.
The war had now entered a stalemate. The danger was still there, but it was nowhere near as chaotic as when it first broke out.
With proper preparation and the right choice of missions, a sixth-level combat wizard could get his chance to build up experience on the battlefield too.
He had done what he could. The rest was up to Jack.
Without dwelling on it further, Jie Ming turned and entered the laboratory.
For the moment, he had more important work than fretting over his disciple’s growth.
…
…
Inside the laboratory, Jie Ming called up all the data collected on this expedition.
He first sorted and classified the data, weeding out invalid records, then built models by wizard level, law system and environmental conditions, and began analyzing them item by item.
The problems soon showed themselves.
Although the new version of Leap Power had been verified in actual combat, its real effect still varied markedly from one wizard to the next.
The law system, the degree of adaptation to the environment, and the caster’s ability to control external elements all affected the final performance.
Jie Ming focused his attention on a few key structures, trying to further improve its adaptability to different law systems while lowering the stability threshold for using it.
But the rune structures involved in Leap Power technology were quite complex, and finding a new point of balance was no easy matter.
Jie Ming kept modifying parameters and adjusting structures, then put each new version through simulation testing.
Whenever he hit an anomaly, he would pull up the battle records again and check the environment and the caster’s condition at the time.
Time slipped quietly by in round after round of deduction.
Decades later, after round upon round of adjustment and verification, the new version of Leap Power was finally optimized a step further.
The test results showed that some of the structures that had performed poorly before had been corrected in the new version.
Although its actual effect was still influenced by the user’s ability and the environmental conditions, its overall range of application had improved.
Jie Ming checked the last set of data, confirmed there were no obvious problems, and then contacted Felix:
“Here is the complete material on the new version of Leap Power. It’s stable now and can be rolled out to the whole civilization.”
“Material received. Integrity check in progress.”
Felix’s phantom image appeared on the light screen, and he nodded to Jie Ming:
“Check passed. The new version of Leap Power has been archived, and the technology rollout process has been initiated. The relevant material will be made available through the existing technology network to authorized research institutions and wizards. Thank you very much for your contribution to the civilization, Wizard Jie Ming.”
Jie Ming nodded and closed the technical interface.
This research could finally be brought to a close for now.
For Jie Ming himself, the end of the research also meant he could turn more of his energy toward his own law system.
He closed his eyes, gathered his focus, and examined his spiritual sea.
The research into Leap Power had not been aimed at raising his personal strength, but over the course of that continuous research, his understanding of the Spiritual Qi Law had kept deepening as well.
When he saw the golden law thread inside his spiritual sea, visibly lengthened, Jie Ming paused for a moment to confirm he was not seeing things.
His mastery count in the Spiritual Qi Law had actually reached three hundred points.
To have risen so much in so short a time was unquestionably a considerable advance!
But Jie Ming could also feel quite clearly that his rate of improvement had recently begun to slow.
The reason was that as his degree of mastery climbed ever higher, the help his existing knowledge could offer was gradually diminishing.
If he kept researching along the same lines, the efficiency would only fall further and further.
“Looks like it’s time to accumulate knowledge again.” Jie Ming sighed helplessly.
For the Spiritual Qi Law to keep improving, merely going over the known portions again was clearly nowhere near enough.
He had to come to understand more laws step by step, grasp their basic principles and internal structures, and then look among them for the parts that could link up with the Spiritual Qi Law.
In other words, he needed to push his mastery of all the laws further forward.
Jie Ming reopened the study plan Felix had drawn up for him earlier.
With the support of the Level-One Cultivation Protocol, the research material he could draw on was quite abundant.
Going by the plan, the Jie Ming of today had in fact not even completed the first step: filling in the basic knowledge of each field.
“Hm… well, there’s no shortage of resources or knowledge. Complete the mastery of all the laws first, then worry about the rest.”
Jie Ming went over the plan carefully and rearranged the time ahead.
The new version of Leap Power was already enough for the wizards to deal with the crisis at this stage, so Jie Ming’s research into the technology was put aside for now.
That way, Jie Ming could put more of his energy into studying the laws as well.
With everything arranged, he closed the superfluous light screen interfaces, took out the first batch of material designated by the study plan, and began to study.
The laboratory fell quiet once more.
