I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 929: The Target

~6 minute read · 1,444 words

By the time Jie Ming had dealt with the rest of the odds and ends at the temporary base and walked out of it, the world outside had changed completely.

The sky overhead was blanketed in dense shadow. One cannon-fodder legion after another was rising into the air and dispersing in different directions under the guidance of its master and commanders.

Clark’s Shadow Dragon legion had already been the first to leave; several thousand Shadow Dragons wove between the cloud layers, their enormous bodies leaving trails across the sky.

Wizard Augusta, meanwhile, was pushing north at the head of Berta Vera Augusta and his own cannon-fodder host.

Teacher Kastilla’s legion had chosen yet another direction. Before she left she even waved to Jie Ming, smiling as brightly as if she were setting off on a spring outing.

Viola was ready to set off too.

Behind her came a cannon-fodder legion made up of many different creatures. It was not especially large, but every single unit in it had a thoroughly savage aura.

She walked up to Jie Ming, and for once her tone was serious:

“Be careful, and don’t push yourself. The enemies in this plane cluster are no pushovers.”

Jie Ming nodded. “Understood.”

Viola said nothing more, and turned and walked toward her legion.

Her legion rose slowly into the air, soon merged into the vast flood that blotted out the sky, and flew east.

Jie Ming stood where he was, watching every one of the wizards depart, until only his own legion was left in the sky, still reorganising itself in orderly fashion.

The Black Giant priests were busily directing the Black Giant legion and the Dragonblood Mushroomman Legion as they captured every creature in the area and “packed them up”, then shipped them in an endless stream back through the spatial passage to the Infernal Sulfur Plane on the other side.

Whether they were creatures native to this world or alien species that had poured in through the spatial passages, all of them were captured without distinction.

Watching the captured creatures vanish into the passage, Jie Ming quietly weighed his next moves.

The days before had seemed to go swimmingly, but in the end that was only because they had stayed tucked away inside the human world, with Carl, humanity’s strongest one, holding the front line.

Carl’s fearsome reputation had been enough to cow those advanced civilisations, so that they dared not invade openly and on a large scale.

That did not mean this plane war would be easy.

One look at the line-up the wizards had sent this time told you how fierce the coming battles would be.

Every one of them was a high-level wizard, the least of them the elite of the sixth level; not a single low-level wizard was taking part.

That in itself said a great deal.

In all his years in the wizard civilisation, Jie Ming had fought in no small number of plane wars, but those wars were not remotely in the same league as the situation in this world.

In an ordinary plane war, on the battlefields where wizards below the sixth level could take part, you often would not see even a single eighth-level creature.

He did at least hold the status of an elite combat unit, but even so, the vast majority of the plane wars he was warned of amounted at most to clashes between seventh-level creatures.

Yet the intelligence on this world showed that every one of those advanced civilisations possessed eighth-level creatures by the tens of thousands.

The wizard civilisation did need to sift through its low-level wizards to produce high-level ones, but that did not mean sending them off to die.

On a battlefield of this level, wizards below the sixth level would not even get the chance to run for their lives, so from the very start there had been no plan to bring low-level wizards along to pad out the army.

“My Lord, all the creature samples in the vicinity have been captured.”

The Black Giant priest’s voice drew Jie Ming out of his thoughts, and he turned his attention back to his own legion:

“Pass the word. Reorganise the legion, and send half our strength to help Carl rescue this world’s humans.”

“Yes!”

Once the orders had gone out, Jie Ming took stock of his own condition.

Sure enough, having entered this world, his true body was still suppressed by some kind of force.

It was this world’s rejection of otherworldly beings, but it was much milder than he had expected.

“It seems that with Carl’s acknowledgement, we wizards have won the favour of this world’s Plane Origin after all.” He opened his eyes, thoughtful.

As the strongest one of the entire plane, Carl’s acknowledgement amounted to an endorsement from the native world, granting the wizard civilisation’s invaders a certain degree of “legitimacy” here.

The Plane Origin no longer regarded the wizards as pure aliens, and had begun to take them into the range of the acceptable.

That was good news. It meant the combat power his true body could bring to bear in this world was higher than he had anticipated.

As for Jie Ming’s first target, it was of course the Holy Spirit race.

This step was exactly why he had not let Carl destroy the Holy Spirit race’s teleportation array back then.

The other wizards understood his intent perfectly well, so none of them hunted in this area; each had headed off in another direction.

Very soon, Jie Ming led his reorganised legion toward the site of the spatial passage through which the Holy Spirit King had descended.

That area was already unrecognisable.

The spatial passage by which the Holy Spirit race had descended was sealed now, and all that remained in the void were extremely faint spatial ripples.

For other civilisations, this might have been a real nuisance.

But to Jie Ming, these ripples were like footprints left on a beach, clear enough that they could almost be followed.

“It seems to have closed quite thoroughly.” Jie Ming hovered where the passage had once been, his True-False Void-Piercing Pupil running at full power as he analysed the lingering spatial ripples layer by layer.

The passage had closed, but so long as the Holy Spirit race had not entirely abandoned this spatial passage, it would have left traces in the structure of space.

Those traces would not dissipate easily, least of all from a spatial passage able to carry eighth-level creatures, whose spatial structure was far more complex than that of an ordinary rift in space.

But precisely because of that, they held more information.

Jie Ming swept his hand through the void, his fingertips trailing a string of runes.

He needed to find the passage’s structural data, then work backward from it to the coordinates of the plane where the Holy Spirit race lived.

The process would take some time, but for Jie Ming it was merely tedious, not difficult.

“Someone, come here,” he called.

A sixth-level Black Giant priest hurried forward, the vertical mouth in its chest parting slightly. “My Lord.”

“Take some of your people and lay down warning arrays around this area. Any creature that approaches, native or otherworldly, is to be intercepted.”

“As you command.” The priest bowed, withdrew and swiftly went to see to it.

Jie Ming turned his attention back to analysing the spatial ripples.

The Holy Spirit race’s spatial-passage technology had a rather distinctive style, unlike that of any other civilisation he had seen.

It was a hybrid system somewhere between biological instinct and advanced technology, full of the adaptive traits peculiar to the Holy Spirits’ own biology.

Jie Ming spent several hours extracting, one by one, the main spatial parameters left behind in space.

Then he closed his eyes and began to rebuild the passage’s complete structure in his spiritual sea.

“Found it.”

Suddenly Jie Ming opened his eyes, the corners of his mouth curving slightly upward.

He raised his hand, and runes surged from his fingertips, laying out in the void a spatial array similar in structure to the Holy Spirit race’s spatial passage.

The array turned slowly, and the spatial ripples began to gather once more.

After a moment of stillness, the rift that had been sealed began to show signs of loosening again.

Watching the rift gradually widen, Jie Ming’s eyes flashed with a glint of cold:

“Pass the order. All forces, attack!”
