I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 925: Scheming

Clack!

With a mechanical clatter, a large number of automatic machine guns flipped out from the ceiling, walls and floor all along the corridor and opened fire on the three attackers without hesitation.

But in the face of that terrifying firepower, the vine-man simply made the vines of its arms grow rapidly, and that alone blocked the attack.

Beside it, the dinosaur-man and the insect-man casually tore up nearby metal plates and hurled them, and that was enough to clear out the automatic machine guns.

“Tch! Nothing but petty tricks!”

That was what the dinosaur-man said, but inwardly it was still somewhat relieved.

Luckily they had the vine-man to shield them; otherwise this one checkpoint alone would have cost the two of them a fair few wounds.

They broke through one defense after another and swept aside every obstacle in their way, until at last they left the corridor and came before a great metal door.

The insect-man commander cautiously examined the metal door with its compound eyes, perception at full stretch, but detected nothing of any use.

Behind the door was a blank, as though an invisible barrier cut off every scrap of information.

“It seems this is where they are hiding their secret.” Its mental fluctuations carried a tension it could not suppress.

Beside it, the dinosaur-man tightened its grip on its giant blade as well, and the vine-man’s body trembled without stopping.

By this point the human fighters who had struck from every dark corner had vanished, and the annoying traps of every kind were gone too. Yet the sense of danger in their hearts only grew.

Just as the three were discussing how to get the door open, the whole metal door suddenly opened a crack.

For a moment, all three commanders froze!

In air that seemed to have set solid, the metal door slowly swung open.

Cold blue light poured out through the gap, casting a long, narrow band of light across the floor.

Jie Ming walked out along that band at an unhurried pace, as though he were strolling down a red carpet.

His robe stirred gently in the air and his expression was calm, like a man who had stepped out of his study for a breath of air.

Yet the commanders of the three races all took half a step back together and set themselves in defensive stances.

The insect-man spoke first: “Who are you? Are you the secret hidden in this base?!”

The dinosaur-man gripped its weapon, its slitted pupils fixed on Jie Ming and the muscles beneath its scales drawn taut.

The vine-man split its body into dozens of vines, which crept along the walls and ceiling from different directions, trying to pin down Jie Ming’s position from several angles.

Jie Ming smiled and casually beckoned to the three of them: “Want to know? Beat me first, and then we will talk.”

The dinosaur-man was the first to erupt.

Its body swelled a full size larger as it charged at high speed. The metallic sheen of its scale armour flared, and the giant blade in its hand came down at Jie Ming’s head with a piercing shriek of torn air.

The vine-man followed close behind. Dozens of vines lashed in from every direction at once to strangle him, each one sprouting dense barbs, sealing off every line of evasion Jie Ming had.

The insect-man, meanwhile, vanished from sight, suppressing even its mental energy fluctuations to the minimum. Like a drop of water melting into the sea, it circled round behind Jie Ming without a sound.

The three worked together flawlessly.

The dinosaur-man attacked head-on, the vine-man sealed off every line of retreat, and the insect-man struck from behind.

Jie Ming raised his right hand and, with a light pinch of his index and middle fingers, precisely caught the giant blade the dinosaur-man commander had brought down.

The edge stopped less than an inch from his forehead and could advance no further.

The dinosaur-man’s slitted pupils shrank; it could not believe that a stroke delivered with all its strength had been held perfectly still between two fingers.

Jie Ming gave his fingers a slight twist, and the giant blade snapped in the middle.

With a backhanded flick he sent the broken half of the blade flying. Driven by terrifying force, it tore through the net of vines the vine-man had flung at him and nailed those barbed vines to the ceiling.

At the same time, his left hand reached behind him with its fingers spread, and the insect-man’s sneak attack from behind ran straight into his palm.

Jie Ming closed his fingers and gripped the insect-man commander by the carapace of its head.

The insect-man struggled desperately, its six jointed limbs flailing wildly, but it could not move, as if caught in an iron vice.

Jie Ming flung it away offhandedly, and the insect-man commander’s enormous body flew like a sledgehammer and knocked the dinosaur-man off its feet.

In the blink of an eye, all three commanders had been beaten back.

Yet faced with so enormous a gap in combat strength between the two sides, the three commanders showed not the slightest intention of backing down.

The dinosaur-man shoved away the insect-man lying on top of it, threw aside its broken giant blade, drew a thumb-sized lump of dark red ore from its waist, and without hesitation stuffed it into its mouth.

The moment the strange ore went in, its scale armor turned blood red, its body temperature soared, and the breath it exhaled carried scorching sparks.

The vine-man’s purple flower bloomed, spraying a great cloud of purple spore powder from its stamens.

The powder settled on its own vines, and every one of them began to grow madly, becoming thicker and tougher, like steel cables come to life.

The insect-man was not to be outdone either. It squeezed a tube of dark green fluid from a gland in its abdomen and injected it straight into its own chest cavity.

The auras of the three race commanders surged at once.

An increase that great, however, came at an obvious price.

The dinosaur-man commander’s scales began to flake away from the edges, exposing ulcerated skin beneath.

The vine-man’s flower itself was withering fast, while cracks like a spider’s web spread across the insect-man’s carapace, oozing pale green fluid.

“For our kind!”

The dinosaur-man let out a hoarse roar. The power it had bought by burning its own life let it break past its limits for the moment.

The three charged at Jie Ming together.

Jie Ming watched the three of them charge and smiled.

He raised his right hand, palm forward.

Dark golden light compressed in his palm. Then a dark golden beam shot from Jie Ming’s palm and easily pierced the vine-man and the dinosaur-man, who were charging in front.

Wherever the beam passed, vines turned to ash in the heat, and scale armour shattered and crumbled under the energy impact.

A hole half a metre across was burned straight through the middle of the vine-man’s body, and all those madly growing vines wilted in an instant, as though every trace of life had been drained from them.

The dinosaur-man commander’s chest was run through. Its blood-red scale armour burst apart, and its ulcerated skin charred further in the aftershock of the Trigram Fire Annihilation Divine Light.

Its charging stride faltered, and then it fell heavily face down on the floor.

The insect-man had vanished from sight again the instant the attack was launched.

Using the opening its two companions had bought with their lives, it had already slipped silently up to Jie Ming’s side.

The venomous stinger on its limb snapped out and stabbed viciously at the side of Jie Ming’s neck.

Jie Ming did not even turn his head. He simply swatted at it with an offhand slap.

Smack!

That one slap burst the insect-man commander’s body apart like a berry struck by a stone, and green pulp and fragments of shattered carapace sprayed in every direction.

Jie Ming drew back his hand and flicked off the green fluid that had got on it.

“Human… you are strong!”

The voice from beside him made Jie Ming pause on his way to collect the souls.

He turned to look, and saw that it was the insect-man, with nothing left of it but its head.

Insect vitality really was tenacious. Even with only half a head remaining, it still held on to some lingering consciousness.

The insect-man’s remaining head gave off a mental resonance like a burst of laughter: “But do you think your strength alone can hold this place? You are dead!!”

Jie Ming tilted his head, pulled the creature’s soul over to him, and began searching it for information.

A moment later, Jie Ming’s face darkened, and he crushed the insect-man’s soul in his hand.

“What a pack of pests! They cannot even lie quiet when they are dead!”

The ground began to shake.
