I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 900: Arrangements
Previously on I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality...
The first thing Jie Ming did after returning to the Infernal Sulfur Plane was to examine carefully the eighth-level robot Wizard Noren had pressed on him.
The thing had to belong to the elite units of that mechanical civilization; its construction was a great deal more exquisite than that of the mecha he had seen on the battlefield.
Beneath the silver-gray shell, every inch of space was packed full of precise energy circuitry and miniaturized runes.
And after Jie Ming swept the core circuits with his True-False Void-Piercing Pupil, he found further that the interior of that shell had even made use of phase-space technology, so as to go on filling itself with energy circuits of every kind.
Looking over the many energy-circuit designs upon it, Jie Ming could not help voicing his admiration aloud.
The thing’s rate of energy utilization was astonishingly high, and its standard of design could fairly be called art.
“The design of these energy circuits alone is already worth the price…”
If he applied these energy-circuit designs to his own Talisman-Rune Artifacts, their combat power could be raised by another considerable margin.
After some thought he first ran a scan of the machine and built a model of it, and then Jie Ming poured out a heap of assorted fragments from the inner world within his body.
All of it was what he had gathered up in passing on the battlefield: armor debris from that mechanical fleet, small mechanical components that the Great Annihilation Divine Light had swept over without entirely vaporizing, and several energy nodes whose purpose he did not know.
Besides that, he had gone to the trouble of purchasing several sets of top-level seventh-level technology-side technical data from the magic network, meaning to use them as “reference material.”
Jie Ming decided to take these things to the second laboratory and hand them to the tentacle tree research team headed by Hadar, and to that plant-person researcher ensconced in the ecological garden.
Both the tentacle trees and the plant-people had come out of technology-side civilizations, after all, and their line of thinking differed greatly from the system Jie Ming now had command of; letting them study mechanical technology would in fact be the more efficient course.
At the center of the second laboratory’s research zone, a plant-person researcher stood before a floating light screen.
Its whole body was covered in dark green plant tissue, and several broad leaves even grew from the crown of its head.
These, of course, were only the “mimic tentacles” the plant-person used to make operating the various instruments convenient.
Its true main body was what ran down the vines beneath its feet, connected to the botanical garden and the greenery system of the entire second laboratory.
Sensing that Jie Ming had teleported in, the plant-person turned around at once.
“Master.”
On the other side, Hadar, who had already received Jie Ming’s message, hurried over as well.
“Master, I wonder what the research materials you spoke of might be…”
Jie Ming pointed at the metal crate behind him. “Good things.”
He opened the crate door, and silver-gray mechanical fragments came into view at once; Hadar and that plant-person researcher leaned in together.
“This is…”
Hadar snatched up a mechanical node, his eyes widening bit by bit.
Jie Ming took the robot out of a separate seal and set it on the operating platform, explaining to the two beside him, “What I am having you study this time is the finest creation of an eighth-level technology-side civilization. With this thing, you can also get a clear look at how far this road of the technology side is able to go in the future.”
“I am not asking that you be able to reproduce it now, but at the very least absorb every part of it that can be absorbed, and better still develop a route of your own out of it!”
Hadar’s attention had already shifted from the mechanical nodes to the robot Jie Ming had dug out.
He extended several tentacles, wound them gingerly around the robot, and leaned in for a careful look.
It was a long while before he raised his head, an excitement he could not suppress in his voice.
“Master, the energy conduction system of the shell alone already exceeds every theory we currently command. If we can thoroughly digest this system, perhaps our warships could take several qualitative leaps in energy efficiency!”
On the other side the plant-person researcher spoke slowly as well, but the voice it simulated by friction carried regret. “A pity our existing technical foundation falls so far short. I am afraid this will take no little time…”
The plant-people’s civilization might be a technology-side civilization specializing in biology, but they too could learn a great deal of technology from these remains; technologies of the sort that dealt with energy utilization were, much of the time, universal.
“The technical foundation is not a problem. This time I have also brought you some technical data from the seventh-level technology side. Of course, that thing can only count as a stopgap; what matters is still your own research.”
Jie Ming dug out the data crystals he had purchased and passed them over.
“As for time, that has never been a problem. I have only one requirement: what I want is technology you produce after truly absorbing it!”
Hadar and the plant-person researcher both assented solemnly.
To them, cutting-edge technology from an eighth-level technology-side civilization was more precious than any reward.
After leaving the laboratory, Jie Ming thought again of the other ninth-level creation that had been sitting in his hands all this while.
That endless energy source captured from the octopus-men leaned more toward technology on the energy side.
In terms of technical content it might not stand as high as the mechanical altar, but it was a ninth-level creation all the same; even studying the ninth-level power it came with would be a gain.
His schedule now, however, was packed very full, and he did not know when it could be fitted in, so at the present stage renting it out was the most suitable course.
“Still… who would be the best one to have study it?”
Once he gave it that much thought, Jie Ming discovered that his own web of connections was pitifully thin.
“It seems all I can do is ask Senior Sister Viola whether she has anyone to recommend the next time I see her.”
Just as Jie Ming was wondering whether to raise it with Viola at their next meeting, Viola’s call came through of its own accord.
“Junior Brother, I have just heard all about it!”
The moment the call connected, Viola’s unusually animated voice came through. “I hear you ran into no few great matters on this trip out. Come, come, tell me every detail: what on earth happened!”
Jie Ming laughed and gave a rough account of the investigation of the Wonder. Although he told it very sparely, Viola still listened with clicks of wonder.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. Junior Brother, only you could tell something so stirring in so dried-out a fashion. Might that not count as a talent in its own right?” Having heard Jie Ming’s account out, Viola shook her head with theatrical airs.
Jie Ming paid no mind to Viola’s assessment and turned the subject instead. “Senior Sister, you have come at just the right time. There is something I would like to discuss with you.”
Viola’s interest was piqued. In the light screen she at once shifted into an elegant sitting posture, legs crossed. “Oh? Then I had better listen carefully. Go on, say it: who are we killing?”
Jie Ming rubbed his forehead helplessly. “It is not quite so dramatic as that… After we fought that pack of octopus-men, you should still remember the ninth-level creation I took as spoils?”
Jie Ming laid out his idea of renting the thing out for someone to study.
“…So, Senior Sister, do you have anyone suitable in mind?”
Hearing this, Viola, who had been sitting elegantly upright in her chair in the light screen, shot to her feet, her face pressed hard up against the screen as though she meant to reach through it and up to Jie Ming.
“What did you say?!”
“Uh… is something wrong?”
“Wrong? Nothing at all! Excellent, wonderful, absolutely nothing wrong!”
Viola tossed her hair back and revealed a brilliant smile. “What a coincidence. I happen to have exactly the right candidate right here.”
“Who?”
“Me!”
Jie Ming blinked. “Huh?”
Viola pointed at herself with perfect self-assurance, then rubbed her hands together with a thoroughly villainous grin.
“Heh heh heh heh… don’t let good water run off into another man’s field, Junior Brother! Look at how fine these terms of yours are: hand over a single copy of whatever technology comes out of the research, and you get a ninth-level creation to study. This deal is far too good a bargain; only a fool would turn it down, and of course you should pick your own people!”
“And picking your own people is a guarantee besides. Give it to someone else, and if they pocket it in secret or pull some other funny business, that would be no good at all, now would it?!”
“Mind your image, Senior Sister; your image has already collapsed!” Jie Ming could not help leaning back.
Viola waved a grand hand. “Listen to you. I have been cultivating that image of mine for so long; it is about time I cashed it in!”
“In any case, what do you think of the proposal I just made?”
Jie Ming had no hesitation whatever about it. “If you are willing, Senior Sister, then of course that would be splendid. Having this thing researched is good for you and good for me alike.”
At that Viola’s smile grew more brilliant still. “Aha! I knew all the doting I do on you was not wasted! Rest easy: the moment my research shows any promise, you will absolutely be the first to know!”
“Good! I have faith in your research ability as well, so I will look forward to what you turn up, Senior Sister.” Jie Ming nodded with a smile.
The two of them then settled on a specific time for Viola to come and collect it, and after a few more words of small talk they hung up.
