Wizard Noren effortlessly defeated colossal enemy warships and even fortress machines. After securing the altar with his puppets, he gifted Jie Ming a captured robot. When the enemy attempted to destroy the Wonder, Noren turned the elemental ocean against them. Grand-Mentor Anton returned with the enemy fleet's captain's head, revealing the captain was a cyborg. The captain's last words warned of the "Grand President," an immense planetary-sized mechanical being of the ninth level. The Grand President immediately destroyed the captain's head and revealed its own "Supreme" level, stating Wizard Noren and Grand-Mentor Anton had research value. Noren then revealed his own trump card: three hidden eighth-level wizards, ready to face the Grand President.

“Then let me see just how much research value you insects have!”

Because it perceived clearly the attitude Wizard Noren and the others held, the Grand President’s voice had by now lost entirely the loftiness it had begun with.

In its place was undisguised anger, along with a mocking sneer.

That body, vast as an entire planet, turned slowly; countless thick metal structures meshed against one another, and the runes and energy circuits covering the planet’s surface lit up all at once, lines of light running one after another through the whole mechanical form.

Jie Ming could feel it clearly: in this moment, it had truly “come alive.”

A pressure more terrible than before unfolded. Jie Ming looked at it only once, through the defensive barrier Wizard Noren held open, and felt his scalp go numb.

That pressure even acted directly upon soul and consciousness; Jie Ming felt as though a real world were pressing slowly down toward his spiritual sea.

Jie Ming tightened his fingers without thinking. “So this is the ninth level…”

Facing that pressure head-on earlier, Jie Ming had assumed that was already its limit, and had never imagined it could only count as “power-saving mode.”

Only now was this the other side’s true strength.

The residual force alone had already given him a suffocating sense of being unable to breathe.

And just as Jie Ming had not managed to adjust himself, the two sides had already exchanged blows.

Boom!!!

Because both sides moved too fast, Jie Ming could not even make out what had happened.

Under the eruption of that terrible power, his field of vision was swallowed in an instant by ultimate light and dark, and spacetime in that one moment was ground utterly to pieces.

An incomprehensible fluctuation swept past from the depths of the void, and immediately after came the head-on collision of still more terrible forces.

Boom!

Everything seemed to be shaking.

Jie Ming’s consciousness fell into chaos almost the same instant.

He had not even borne the true aftershock of the battle; merely the “momentum” that dissipated naturally as the two sides struck at each other had already drawn a groan of unbearable strain from his puppet shell.

Crack…

At last, fissure after fissure surfaced across the puppet body’s exterior, and his spiritual sea shook madly as well.

His soul felt as though it had been pressed whole into an endless deep sea, unable to breathe or to think, and even maintaining the most basic clarity of consciousness became extraordinarily difficult.

The feeling even made Jie Ming recall, against his own will, the terror of drowning he had once known in his previous life.

In that muddled daze, Jie Ming understood one thing: the self of this moment had no qualification whatsoever to stand here, not even to watch!

“Withdraw.”

Just as his consciousness was about to give way entirely, a gentle force came suddenly from behind him.

It was like a hand pinching lightly at the back of his collar.

Then the world spun.

The void around him receded rapidly; space was like a thin curtain, drawn lightly aside from the outer face.

When Jie Ming came back to himself, a familiar sensation had already reached him underfoot.

Cold, level, hard… that was the black metal flooring of the academy plaza.

And overhead was the forever-mild simulated daylight of Noren Academy No. 1.

He was back.

Jie Ming stood on the teleportation plaza and was dazed for a full several seconds before he discovered that his puppet shell was still trembling faintly, and that in the depths of his spiritual sea those golden law threads had still not entirely settled.

He lowered his head slowly, looked at his own two hands, and stayed silent a long while before he sighed.

“The gap is too great.” There was a measure of self-mockery in Jie Ming’s consciousness. “I do not even have the qualification to watch the battle.”

Eighth level, ninth level: with every level crossed, the gap between the two sides widened in a manner very nearly exaggerated.

Jie Ming let out a slow breath and pressed down the shock in his heart.

Just then a familiar voice came from a distance:

“Jie Ming!”

Several figures swiftly gathered around him.

Chloe, Ed, Tori, Alma, not one of them missing.

The four seventh-level wizards who had earlier been wiped out outright by the elemental gravitation wave were all standing here safe and sound.

Though they had just been through a death in the truest sense of the word, the mental state of the four did not appear to have suffered much effect.

One could only say that the wizard civilization’s resurrection technology had indeed matured to a fairly exaggerated degree.

By the high-level wizards, basically every wizard would find a way to prepare one or two means of resurrection for themselves, so high-level wizards were quite hard to kill.

Tori’s tone carried a curiosity he could not disguise:

“How did things go over there? Ever since the few of us died and came back, we have been waiting here the whole time. Communications cut off right after Wizard Noren and Wizard Anton left, and we could not receive any information at all on our end.”

Jie Ming did not keep them in suspense:

“No need to worry. Wizard Noren and Grand-Mentor Anton arrived in time, and they called in another three eighth-level wizards as well. As for now, well… they are dealing with a ninth-level mechanical creature that calls itself the Grand President.”

“Ninth level?” Chloe’s voice went sharply up in an instant.

Even Alma, always the calmest of them, changed color visibly.

Ed murmured, “That thing could actually draw out a ninth level? Well, true enough, that item really does look like a ninth-level creation, but it feels like nothing more than a defective product…”

Learning that this mission had actually dragged a ninth-level being into it, the four asked no further.

Matters at the ninth level already exceeded the range in which they could have any hand, and all they could do now was wait for word from Wizard Noren’s side.

Waiting on the outcome of a battle between ninth-level powers was not an easy thing.

Time, in a state like this, seemed to grow especially long.

Though the several of them kept discussing the knowledge gained from their earlier study of the Elemental Black Hole, Jie Ming could clearly feel that their attention was not here.

The four seventh-level wizards raised their heads now and then to look toward the distant void, a certain complexity in all their eyes.

And so, without anyone knowing how much time had passed.

Hum…

The space ahead rippled open like the surface of water, and five figures walked out of the spatial fluctuation, precisely Wizard Noren and Grand-Mentor Anton, along with the other three eighth-level wizards who had come as support.

Jie Ming’s gaze swept over them: all five carried some degree of damage, but their condition was fortunately quite good, and he could even see on their faces a trace of pleasure they could not cover up.

Seeing that expression of theirs, Jie Ming had his answer; it seemed the result of this battle had been very good.

“Good luck.” One of the eighth-level wizards laughed aloud, walked over and clapped Wizard Noren on the shoulder. “You actually did run into a big fish. And such a fat one at that.”

Wizard Noren only smiled. “My ‘luck’ is indeed rather good.”

“Oh, right, I forgot you fellow are skilled in the fate discipline as well. Well, well, well, well…”

Another eighth-level wizard said: “We will go and deal with the spoils first, and once the public laboratory is built we can study them slowly. Count this as us owing you a favor.”

“Good!”

With that, the three eighth-level wizards left one after another, each faster than the last.

Plainly, in their eyes, the most important thing at hand was to hurry and see to the spoils they had just seized.
