I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 879: Elevation
Several years later, in the quiet chamber of the main laboratory, Jie Ming slowly opened his eyes.
Ranged before him were the crystal test tubes used to seal Plane Origin away, and by now every one of them stood empty.
Only a moment ago, the last strand of Plane Origin Jie Ming had bought all those years back had merged completely into his spiritual sea, raising a faint lingering resonance throughout his consciousness space before settling into stillness.
“Whew…”
He let out a long breath. Merely that natural motion was enough to stir the elements in the air into resonance.
Jie Ming turned his sight inward upon his spiritual sea, where a dozen and more golden law threads now shone upon one another.
The harvest of this stretch of seclusion had been quite respectable.
The smallest growth had come in the four elemental laws, whose law mastery count had risen to twelve points.
Jie Ming had long anticipated that result, however.
After all, the four elemental laws were the most fundamental structure composing the whole of the wizard world; every one of the elements could be decomposed into countless new laws.
It could be said that every single point of growth in the four elemental laws represented a simultaneous elevation across a great many other laws.
Jie Ming had in fact braced himself for the four elemental laws remaining in the single digits; that they had broken through into double digits was far better than the result he had expected.
Jie Ming guessed that his state of Dao Integration had played its part. Thanks to the instinctive comprehension of the Great Dao of heaven and earth that came with the Dao Integration Realm itself, although his absorption of Plane Origin was subject to diminishing returns as well, he was without question far better off than other wizards.
The proof of it was that apart from those four elements, nearly all his other laws had passed the threshold of twenty points.
That figure went far beyond the statistical average of the wizard civilization.
The Time Law, for instance, had reached above thirty points through the mutual corroboration of the knowledge of his other laws, while the Space Law, on the strength of the deep accumulation he had possessed from the outset, had climbed above thirty-five.
The essence of a law, after all, was knowledge, and knowledge was never an isolated thing.
Wizards who used Plane Origin in the ordinary way found this very hard to make use of, but Jie Ming had the Entropy Brain talent, strengthened as it was by the Body Forging Method.
The knowledge he held sorted and intermingled itself within his mind, producing an effect in which one plus one came to a great deal more than two.
“Still… the deeper my understanding of the knowledge of each law goes, the faster the difficulty of pushing it any higher will grow.”
Jie Ming looked at the Space Law with its mastery count of a mere thirty-five points, lost in thought.
He had recognised this a long time ago, and yet the rate at which the difficulty of mastering knowledge grew still struck Jie Ming as somewhat outrageous.
By his own reckoning, on the mutual verification of the knowledge of his other laws, the Space Law should have risen to at least forty points; he had not expected it to gain only as far as thirty-five.
And that was with the assistance of the properties of the Dao Integration Realm itself.
Small wonder that the overwhelming majority of wizards took one law they excelled at as their core and conducted their research with only a few laws in support.
Knowledge could indeed be verified against other knowledge, but for any given piece of it there were in fact only a handful of others against which the verification worked best.
Understand too much, and the returns fell too low to be worth the cost.
Of course, if there really were someone capable of understanding it all, then the effect of verifying knowledge against knowledge would rise to a new height again; but apart from Mentor Clark, Jie Ming had yet to see a second person do it.
“Hss… wait!” A flash of inspiration crossed Jie Ming’s mind; something had occurred to him.
“It is not that there is no second ‘person’… or rather, no second creature. Is a living plane not precisely a lifeform born with that very particularity?!”
Because of the peculiar nature of a living plane, it needed only to reach the third level to be able to advance straight to the sixth.
If Jie Ming had not reasoned wrongly, then for a living plane, advancing to the seventh level, or even to elite seventh level, would be no difficult matter either.
Given the outrageous power base of a living plane, once it advanced to the seventh level and had its knowledge filled out, its combat strength might well surpass that of most eighth-level wizards!
“Hss… was this within your expectations as well? Starfall?!”
Jie Ming did in fact know his own measure. Judging by the Plane Awakening Technique that Wizard Starfall had by now updated to version 11.7.62, his spiritual qi had done no more than accelerate the other’s pace of development.
The core knowledge had come from Starfall in person, after all, and the operating logic involved had existed within the wizard world all along.
Even without his spiritual qi, in all likelihood Wizard Starfall would merely have been delayed a few tens of thousands of years, and would still have developed the Awakening Technique all the same.
“So this is what a true genius is? Am I the one with the cheats, or are they?!”
Shaken once more by the native geniuses of the wizard civilization, Jie Ming meekly reined in his self-satisfaction and went on inspecting his own condition.
If the growth in the mastery counts of those earlier laws was, for Jie Ming, no more than his due, then the growth in the mastery count of the Spiritual Qi Law counted as a pleasant surprise.
Without any further refinement of the Incense Fire Divine Dao, the Spiritual Qi Law had actually risen to ten points as well.
A moment’s thought, and Jie Ming understood the reason.
The Spiritual Qi Law might be a Fictional Law of his own creation, but creation itself had to be built upon an understanding of the world.
So the deeper his understanding of the other laws ran, the more thoroughly he perceived the essential nature of this world, and the Spiritual Qi Law he had fabricated naturally rose along with the tide.
And since the Spiritual Qi Law was the core trunk of Jie Ming’s power, its elevation brought a chain reaction with it.
Foremost among the effects, the Law Solidification Domain had grown more condensed, its rate of growth had improved enormously, and its total range had expanded enormously as well!
Jie Ming made a small trial of it. The dark-hued film of light looked at least three times as tough as before, while its coverage had improved more than tenfold.
To put it concretely, that came to roughly the size of one fist of his Dharma Form.
Satisfied, Jie Ming drew the Law Solidification Domain back in, then unfolded his Dharma Form.
This time he did not unfold the Dharma Form fully, but even in its miniaturised state the difference from before could be made out.
Set against what it had been, the outline of the Dharma Form had become clearer and more solid, its blurred edges had turned sharp, and the lines of its muscle and the veining of its armour had taken on a substantial texture.
That meant the Dharma Form was carrying more power, and both its endurance and its explosive force in battle would rise in step.
“Oh? This is…”
Only after unfolding the Dharma Form did Jie Ming discover a change at a deeper level.
Having absorbed a great quantity of knowledge from many different laws, his Dao Integration properties had actually strengthened as well!
What the state of Dao Integration granted him was an instinctive faculty for perceiving the Great Dao of heaven and earth, one that grew his comprehension of the laws automatically at every moment.
And now the rate of that automatic growth had plainly quickened!
Jie Ming surmised that the principle behind it must be the same as with the elevation of the Spiritual Qi Law: the deeper his understanding of the world, the stronger the fundamental property of the Dao Integration Realm, the very integration with the Dao itself!
“Then… if I were to master every law in the wizard world, how far could I raise myself?”
Following the thought that far, Jie Ming felt the urge to go shopping on the spot.
