I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 877: Gains and the Current State
With the questions in their minds resolved and all the various arrangements made, and with Noren having obtained the coordinates from Jie Ming as well, the two eighth-level wizards were preparing to leave.
Then Grand-Mentor Anton seemed suddenly to remember something.
“Ah, right.” He flipped his wrist over, and a spatial ring went flying out.
Clack.
Dead on target, it came to rest precisely on the laboratory bench between Jie Ming and Viola.
“That is the compensation those old things handed over. Since it was you youngsters who earned it, you may as well keep it.”
With that, Grand-Mentor Anton clasped his hands behind his back and walked off without so much as a backward glance.
Wizard Noren gave the group a nod and left behind him.
The two of them soon vanished at the laboratory door.
Jie Ming glanced down at the spatial ring, then raised his head toward Clark and Kastilla and, without thinking, held it out to them. “Then… Mentor…”
Neither of them reached for it. Clark shook his head, his face expressionless, and Kastilla only smiled.
“I still have a fair number of things to see to. The other odds and ends are all finished, but my plane in the Crimson Court has yet to be moved, and that will take a certain amount of time one way or another.”
As she said it, the smile on her face turned gentle. “Once everything has settled down, the wedding between me and your Mentor can more or less begin to be prepared, and I will invite you both when the time comes.”
With that, she reached out and pushed the ring lightly toward Jie Ming and Viola.
“This is the compensation the Decay King’s line gave to you. Deal with it yourselves.”
Viola looked the ring over. “Mentor, you do not want it?”
Clark shook his head. “Judging by the nature of that spatial fold beast, it was you and Jie Ming they had their eye on. So this is the apology gift they are giving you. What would I take it for?”
Teacher Kastilla patted Viola on the shoulder as well. “The two of you split it.”
After that Kastilla glanced at Clark once more, Clark gave a slight nod, and the two of them left the place together, hand in hand.
Watching the pair go, Viola gave a shudder. “Ugh… I have never once seen the old man look that soppy.”
“Careful the Mentor hears you.”
“No chance of that. I am very careful.”
The two traded a few more jibes, then Jie Ming and Viola exchanged a glance and turned together to look at the spatial ring between them.
In perfect accord, the two of them sent their mental energy into the spatial ring at the same moment.
“Hssss!!” ×2.
A moment later, both of them drew in a sharp breath at once.
One could only say that those two eighth-level wizards had genuinely spared no expense to keep the pair from pursuing the matter any further.
Inside, unique materials from the Crimson Court were stacked in neat rows. In terms of value, it was very likely enough for Jie Ming to refine two more array eyes for the All-Heavens Star Grand Array!
Viola snatched the ring up, her eyes shining. “Even split!”
Jie Ming nodded with a smile. “Done!”
…
…
Watching Viola leave satisfied, Jie Ming began to plan out what came next for himself.
He came up to the workbench and opened a light screen, all manner of data streams scrolling down it endlessly like a waterfall.
Jie Ming first took a look at the state of the Creation System.
Thanks to an ample supply of military merit and raw materials, the refining of the All-Heavens Star Grand Array’s array eye was proceeding smoothly.
Jie Ming ran a brief check over it. After buying continuously for so long a time, the auxiliary materials the array eye’s refining required had essentially been made up bit by bit.
Of course, extracting and moving supplies took time, so the materials he had purchased were still being shipped over in a steady stream.
Fortunately, once the Infernal Sulfur Plane had swallowed the Tentacle Tree’s plane it had space enough and to spare, and all of these materials were now stored in the outer space of the Infernal Sulfur Plane.
At this stage, though, what truly limited the speed of the array eye’s refining was, on the contrary, no longer ordinary alchemical materials, but Solar True Fire and Star Power.
After all, those two were the core materials of the All-Heavens Star Grand Array in the truest sense, and the only way to obtain them in quantity was to rely on the Creation System to refine stars.
Although the Creation System was already running at full capacity, and although the refining process, optimised over these years, had reached an efficiency far beyond what it had been at the outset, processing all fifty billion stars would still take an extremely long stretch of time.
Fortunately the whole system was thoroughly automated by this stage, so Jie Ming had no need to watch over it in person; it was enough to check the data every so often and confirm that nothing was out of order.
“Not bad. At least it needs none of my attention for the time being.”
Shutting off the light screen with a casual motion, Jie Ming turned and walked out of the main laboratory, heading for the second laboratory.
The second laboratory could no longer be described as a laboratory at all these days; it was more like an independent research base.
Compared with the first laboratory, which only had to provide research space and equipment for Jie Ming alone, the second was on a distinctly larger scale, since it was used by the research teams of the servant races under his command.
Its interior space had been expanded to an extraordinary breadth, and was further divided into more than a hundred different functional zones.
The moment Jie Ming entered the second laboratory, his mental energy took in bench after bench arranged in neat rows.
Black Giant priests were gathered around them in threes and fives, the vertical openings in their chests parting and closing without pause as they exchanged experimental data and opinions in low frequencies of vibration.
Over on the other side, a tentacle-system researcher was operating more than ten precision instruments at once.
Sensing Jie Ming’s approach, the plants in the laboratory that looked to be there for greenery swayed gently.
Compared with the days when their size confined them to the ecological garden, the plant-people’s bodies had since undergone an even more extravagant change.
Great swathes of green vegetation covered the junctions between the laboratory’s different zones, and even the interior of the laboratory itself held plants like so much landscaping.
And in the ecological garden, the most central zone of all, the plant-people within had swollen to the scale of a dense forest.
At that scale, the plant-people were no longer merely researchers; they doubled as the laboratory’s biological computer, with vast quantities of basic data being processed at speed through their biological network.
It was only on noticing the plant-people stirring that the experimental staff present saw Jie Ming.
At once several Black Giant priests in charge of the major projects came forward to meet him.
“My Lord!”
“Mm. How have things been in the laboratory of late?” Jie Ming nodded to them.
One Black Giant priest immediately presented a data crystal with great respect. “My Lord, the latest verification of the Dragonman bloodline runes is complete. The Dragonmen who received the optimisation earliest have now broken through to the seventh level as a body.”
“Oh? The seventh level already? That is quite efficient.”
Something shifted in Jie Ming’s eyes. He took the crystal, opened a light screen, and looked over the records on it.
The Black Giant priest bowed his head respectfully.
“According to the testing, the optimised bloodline runes are extremely stable in effect. As yet we have found no obvious cases of bloodline collapse, of souls slipping out of control, or of distortion in the life structure.”
“Furthermore, our testing has already seen two of the bloodline-optimised Dragonmen produce new offspring, which shows that the optimisation has not eliminated the Dragonmen’s capacity to reproduce either.”
“However… going by the tests, the higher a Dragonman’s bloodline level, the harder breeding offspring becomes, so we would recommend against putting the entire Dragonman race through bloodline optimisation…”
