I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 874: Resolved
Inside the fragment of space where Clark was, the ferocity of the battlefield was on an altogether different level from anything the rest of them had been through.
Not the slightest mark had been left on these fragments of space even while Jie Ming fought a behemoth for his life; this one already showed disintegration along its edges, plain to the naked eye.
Great sheets of spatial structure were flaking away like smashed glass, exposing the still more chaotic interlayer region behind them.
Elemental storms of every kind and turbulent spatial currents churned madly, destroying everything they touched.
And at the heart of the storm lay the center of this battle.
The robe Clark wore had, unusually, taken damage, though by the look of it he had already brought the situation under control.
The enemy in front of him, however, made every wizard’s chest tighten.
It was a beast of space so vast it could scarcely be measured on any ordinary scale, its transparent body spanning nearly half the battlefield, and with every breath it took great tracts of space contracted and swelled along with it.
The behemoth had only to move at random for dense spatial cracks to spread everywhere along the path it took.
Boom!
The spatial fold beast brought a claw down, and the shock through space raised an energy storm in an instant!
Clark lifted a hand, and the formless, colorless Law Solidification Domain about his body gathered at once and barred the way beneath the claw.
The two forces collided in the void. The roar that had been building cut off abruptly, and yet the whole fragment of space shuddered violently.
“Move!”
Viola seized the opening, and a dozen and more wizards entered the fragment of space at once.
The instant they were inside, the binding formations of every kind they had long since prepared were triggered.
Black chains pierced out of the void and, paired with gravitational fields, whipped swiftly about the spatial fold beast layer upon layer, trying to lock the creature fast.
Naturally, nobody expected these attacks to actually bind the behemoth.
Even though the binding formations were the product of all of them working together, and of the rare resources they had burned through from their stores.
Everyone understood, after all, that this was a spatial life mirrored from the very limit of Clark’s strength, and their own power counted for nothing in a fight at that level.
But the wizards had never intended to bind it with the thing in the first place. What they actually needed was a gap.
A single instant would do. So long as its attention was drawn to them, that was enough!
Sure enough, the attack coming out of nowhere made the spatial fold beast falter for the space of a heartbeat, and Clark seized the moment without hesitation!
“That will do.”
The calm voice sounded, and hard on its heels his Law Solidification Domain unfolded with everything he had!
The vast power all but crushed the whole of the space the moment it appeared, and a dozen and more binding spells took shape at once under Clark’s control.
The spatial fold beast thrashed wildly, its huge transparent body twisting violently, and the whole space groaned under a burden it could not bear as it struggled.
Yet under the full force of Clark’s binding it could not break free.
“Now’s the moment!”
Viola bared her teeth in a savage grin.
Jie Ming did not answer; he silently let the Dharma Form swell open.
He had begun gathering power long before he entered this space.
The Dharma Form, two hundred and fifty thousand kilometers tall, raised its fist, and gray flame kindled slowly along the leading edge of the knuckles.
The flame was not large. It covered only a small patch at the very front of that striking edge.
Yet the instant it appeared, the surrounding space shrank back from it as though by instinct.
Light God Transformation · Annihilation Form.
The entropy-increasing flame, one of the genuinely strongest means of attack Jie Ming now possessed.
With his present degree of control, that tiny area was as much as he could hold it stably compressed into.
But that was enough, since he had never once intended to destroy an entire spatial fold beast with it.
All he needed was… one opening.
Whoosh!
The giant fist swung, and yet there was none of the deafening roar there usually was, only a streak of gray firelight cutting across the void.
That was because every particle the firelight touched was decomposed utterly!
The gray firelight slammed into the claw the spatial fold beast had barely managed to raise, and the forelimb vanished without a trace the instant it met the gray flame.
The spatial fold beast let out its first cry of pain worthy of the name, a sound no hearing could catch, because it acted directly upon spatial structure to begin with.
It could be seen plainly enough: the space across the whole battlefield shook violently with that cry.
In the next instant the enraged spatial fold beast had wrenched another huge claw free and brought it smashing down at Jie Ming!
“Damn!”
Jie Ming’s pupils shrank, but there was no time to dodge.
The claw caught the upper body of his Dharma Form square on. The Return to Ruins Armor collapsed in an instant, the Light God Transformation shuddered violently, and the Dharma Form’s upper body was blasted apart outright.
The whole of the Dharma Form was swatted flying sideways, white radiance scattering across the sky like a shattered star.
The residual force of that one claw set even what remained of the Dharma Form crumbling.
But Jie Ming’s attack had given Clark his opening once again. “It ends here!”
Boom!
As he raised his hand the Law Solidification Domain contracted abruptly, blasting an enormous cavity into the part of the beast where an entire forelimb had already ceased to exist.
Clark did not hesitate for an instant, concentrating his attack on that breach at once.
A torrent of spells came down like a cloudburst, and the spatial fold beast writhed madly, probing for a counterattack.
On Jie Ming’s side, the Dharma Form had already been condensed anew.
He did not maintain the vast Third Layer Dharma Form, however, gathering instead into a miniaturized state under a hundred meters tall, in order to watch the battlefield.
Yet no sooner had it formed than Jie Ming saw Viola shoot past him like a gust of wind, leaving a single word drifting on the air behind her. “Run!”
Behind Viola, the group of sixth-level wizards was likewise fleeing headlong, scattering like startled rats.
One glance at what lay behind them, and Jie Ming’s expression changed abruptly.
With the two sides hammering at each other, the terrible aftershock had already spread this far.
Jie Ming turned on his heel without hesitation and fled for his life along with the rest of them.
Was this a joke?!
An aftershock on that scale could genuinely kill a man if he was careless!
Rumble, rumble…
Feeling the tremor closing fast behind them, the whole group of wizards threw up every defense they had, each of them wringing out every last ounce of strength in his body.
Only once they had all burst out through the gap in the spatial rift did they let out a breath.
Not until then did they have the wherewithal to look back at the scene.
Inside, the spatial fold beast had by now been utterly suppressed by Clark, its huge body disintegrating steadily as attack after attack slammed into the ruin of it.
There was no longer any suspense as to the outcome.
A good many of the Scarlet Hive wizards, though, had their attention not on Clark but on Jie Ming.
They had seen that last scene perfectly clearly, after all.
Neither of the two inside was any kind of fraud; the wizards themselves had come within an inch of learning firsthand what it meant to be killed by an aftershock.
And yet Jie Ming, a sixth-level wizard, had blown one of that behemoth’s forelimbs to pieces head-on, and had then taken the spatial fold beast’s counterblow full in the front and lived!
They had raised no very clear objections earlier when the strategy was being arranged, but they had truly never imagined Jie Ming capable of going this far!
They had assumed that at best he might tilt the situation slightly in their favor.
“What in the world is that monster…” One of the Scarlet Hive wizards could not help swallowing.
The other Scarlet Hive wizards could not stop themselves from stealing careful looks at Jie Ming either.
A performance like that was no longer something the simple word “genius” could account for.
A moment later the fragment of space opposite fell completely silent, and a figure walked slowly out of it.
Clark looked over them all, his gaze coming to rest at last on Jie Ming, and gave a slight nod. “You did well.”
Jie Ming was taken aback for a moment, unused to such blunt praise from his own Mentor, but he nodded back quickly enough. “Mentor.”
“Old man, what about my share of the credit?”
Viola had already come up on the other side, transmitting the method she had worked out for masking spatial fluctuations straight across through mental energy.
Clark glanced at Viola, then nodded. “Understood.”
With that, mental energy circulated slowly over the surface of his body, and before long a peculiar layer of spatial fluctuation had settled over the area around them.
Viola’s mouth twitched. “That’s it done?”
Jie Ming spread his hands. “I’d have thought you were used to it by now.”
Clark paid no attention to the pair of them clowning about, only looked to the side, where a single fragment of space was left: Azrael’s battlefield.
Azrael’s battlefield had likewise been eroded to a severe degree by chaotic space, and the aura of the spatial fold beast within it set many a sixth-level wizard’s heart pounding even at a great distance.
Clearly this behemoth too had been mirrored from the limit of Azrael, a peak seventh-level wizard, and its strength was every bit as outrageous.
“Let’s go.”
Space rippled faintly, and a seam split open without a sound in the fragment of space before them.
Seeing Clark walk toward it, the others hurried to try to follow.
But before they could get inside, Clark took a single step, and a deafening roar came at once from within the fragment.
A gray-white ripple of space burst out of it, and before anyone could make out what had happened the interior had already gone quiet.
Looking in, they saw that the behemoth which a moment ago had been locked in a furious death-struggle with Azrael had been utterly crushed by Clark’s Law Solidification Domain.
As the transparent behemoth gave a soundless cry of pain, its bodily structure crumbled layer by layer from the inside out, until at last it dispersed entirely.
Clark walked back out again, his expression as calm as before and his breathing as steady, as though he had merely flicked aside some insect at the roadside.
And behind him, Azrael came stumbling out.
His robe was in tatters, his face pale, blood still at the corner of his mouth; the fight had plainly been anything but easy.
Azrael raised his head and looked, without meaning to, at the Clark standing before him.
He was silent a long while, and in the end gave a bitter laugh. “I truly had no idea the gap was this wide.”
In that moment Azrael felt keenly the chasm between himself and Clark, one that was very nearly impossible to cross.
