I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 827: Compensation and the Breakout Sessions

At this point Ryan offered out a spatial ring, again in both hands:
“Also, by way of compensating you for your losses, this is a small token of our regret. Please accept it, Wizard Jie Ming.”
Jie Ming took the spatial ring and swept it with his mental energy.
Looking at what was inside, even with his self-possession his eyebrows could not help rising.
Stacked neatly within the ring was a great quantity of high-level materials. Nothing especially precious or rare, as such, but the point was that the volume was large enough.
At the same time, very nearly all of these were materials he had been purchasing in bulk recently, for refining the array eyes of the All-Heavens Star Grand Array.
Jie Ming made a rough estimate: enough for about one and a half array eyes.
That quantity was already outrageous, for every array eye Jie Ming refined cost him a volume of material equivalent to a star.
Reckoned by value, even at the prices from after he had signed the supply treaty with the Star Ring Federation military department, these materials together would come to over a hundred trillion in low-level military merit.
Never mind that on top of the materials he had also been given a spatial ring large enough to hold the whole pile.
A spatial ring of that class and size was itself a high-level spatial wizard artifact of astonishing value.
An ordinary sixth-level wizard genuinely could not make one; it would take at least a seventh-level high-level alchemist.
“This apology gift… is rather too valuable.”
Jie Ming was not merely being polite. This gift was valuable enough to make any eighth-level wizard wince.
After all, wizards can not only earn but spend at a thoroughly first-rate standard.
In a certain sense, indeed, a wizard who cannot even spend well has far too little potential on the wizard path.
So the overwhelming majority of wizards have no habit of saving; the moment resources arrive they go straight into research or into strengthening themselves.
Even with earning power at Jie Ming’s level, he had kept only ten billion in high-level military merit for emergencies and spent every other bit of funding he earned.
Had the Blood Sacrifice Method not been in a period of rapid sales, with the military merit figure in his account climbing by the minute, Jie Ming’s account would probably have been just as empty.
Looked at that way, those desk-bound sixth-level wizards were in fact the best earners in a wizard family.
Because their potential and talent were limited, these desk-bound wizards could not consume much even after earning a great deal of resources, and instead fed a great deal back to the family.
You could say that desk-bound sixth-level wizards were a family’s true foundation.
And to produce that quantity of resources all at once as compensation… the Mobius family had simply hemorrhaged.
To assemble so vast a quantity of goods on hand in so short a time meant the Mobius family had forcibly mobilized a great deal of liquid capital.
If a mobilization of funds on that scale were mishandled, the Mobius family might well face a break in its capital chain.
Hearing the note of refusal in Jie Ming’s words, Ryan, an eighth-level wizard, produced a wry smile. “Lord Jie Ming, this is our sincere intention as well; the fault was certainly ours to begin with…”
Jie Ming understood too that if he declined this gift, the other side would instead be afraid, thinking he did not accept the apology.
And in that case, in order to remove the threat early, they might turn desperate and do something unwise.
So Jie Ming did not go on refusing, but put the spatial ring away with a smile:
“In that case, let this matter end here.”
With that, he put out his right hand of his own accord.
A delighted expression appeared on Ryan’s face, and he at once clasped Jie Ming’s hand. The two shook lightly, and the grievance was set aside.
Right after that, Jie Ming took out his magical network terminal unprompted. “If there is a chance in future, we might exchange views more often.”
Ryan was briefly startled, and then a flash of delight crossed his eyes.
This was not the expression he had put on deliberately before, but genuine surprise and pleasure.
Exchanging contact details meant the two sides now had a connection, and a relationship.
His greatest aim for the day had already been achieved, and he had not expected an unlooked-for gain on top of it.
Put plainly, the price the Mobius family had paid this time was no more than the death of one clansman who had erred, plus a great quantity of resources paid out.
The Mobius family had been developing for over a hundred thousand years, and its clansmen were counted in the hundreds of millions; apart from eighth-level wizards, there was truly not one clansman who could not be replaced.
As for the funds consumed by the compensation, that did hurt, but they would earn it back sooner or later.
Whereas if it let them establish a direct connection with a young genius jointly acknowledged by Savien, Bastian and Morna, the three titans of spatial studies…
However you looked at it, this was a trade that could not lose!
Quite a few wizards in the distance who had been watching the whole time saw this, and their eyes changed completely.
The way they looked at Ryan went from schadenfreude to envy.
…
…
Having handed over the compensation, Ryan read the situation well and left, leaving Jie Ming to go on laboring here.
Somewhat over half an hour later, the first round of exhibition and exchange gradually drew to a close.
As the arrays activated, subtle changes began appearing in the formerly bustling exhibition hall.
The demonstration arrays on the display stands shut down one after another, and the floating light screens retracted automatically.
The silver-white metal floor bulged upward and soon formed dolls responsible for maintaining order.
These dolls moved among the crowd, guiding attendees toward the various breakout sessions.
At the hall’s center, as a great deal of light converged, a light screen a dozen or more meters tall lit up.
At the same time, a mild mechanical female voice rang out across the whole venue.
“The first-stage free exhibition has ended. Attendees, please proceed to the corresponding topical breakout session according to your personal interest.”
Right after that, the light screen rapidly split into a dozen or more areas, displaying various titles at speed:
《Frontier Theory of Spatial Stability》
《Rune-Conversion Design for Large Planar Architectural Structures》
《Law Resonance and Energy Conversion》
《Optimization of the War Alchemy System》
…
More than a dozen topic titles surfaced at once, and beneath each title were marked the presenter’s name, affiliated power and projected direction of discussion.
Looking at the information on the light screen, the flow of people through the whole hall at once dispersed.
Some headed without hesitation for the breakout session in the topic direction they had long since chosen.
But more of them stood where they were, carefully reading through each topic introduction, weighing one against another.
Jie Ming returned to the center of the hall, his gaze passing over those light screens one by one.
The standard of this academic exchange conference really was very high; the paper topics to be presented at these dozen-odd parallel sessions covered very nearly every frontier direction in spatial studies he could think of.
You could say he had a fair amount of interest in every one of them.
And among them, the ones that interested him most were naturally the topics on composite techniques combining spatial and array work with the alchemical system.
However, when Jie Ming’s gaze passed over one particular session title, it paused slightly.
《Applications of Mental Energy Fluctuation Fine-Tuning in Combat Wizardry》.
The title itself was nothing especially unusual; the point was the description below it.
Presenter: Rades (seventh-level combat wizard).
