I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 822: Research and the Opening

~5 minute read · 1,330 words

Elsewhere, several more seventh-level wizards got word, left the banquet next door and came to this restaurant with glasses in hand.

They had originally intended to get a look at Jie Ming, the newly promoted sixth-level wizard so much in the ascendant.

But these people had barely rounded the corridor and seen the scene inside before they all stopped together.

Because at that moment Savien was talking and simultaneously waving open a new spatial model, and the number of light screens in the whole restaurant had reached more than a dozen.

By the look of that concentration, there was no doubt he was now wholly immersed in a research state.

To dare go over and disturb him at a time like this… would be no different from seeking death!

So these few, like the seventh-level wizards before them, smoothly turned aside and withdrew, disgruntled.

“Never mind. We will talk about it after Lord Savien leaves,” one wizard suggested.

Someone beside him shook his head at once. “Looking at the state of those two, do you think he is going to leave at all tonight?”

Recalling the scene, this seventh-level wizard could only shake his head helplessly as well.

One of them swirled his glass lightly and smiled with some meaning behind it. “From today on, I doubt anyone will go on treating Jie Ming as an ordinary newly promoted sixth-level wizard.”

Someone else beside him added a line. “Indeed. From here on, so long as he makes no mistakes himself, a place in the spatial school is his.”

The group nodded together.

“I hear someone could not wait, and probed this Wizard Jie Ming a few times on his way here?” one seventh-level wizard suddenly said with a laugh.

Hearing that, the other wizards could not help laughing quietly as well.

“Now that is a sad story. Let us hope that wizard does not get sacrificed by his own family…”

“Daring to go probing on his own initiative without knowing the particulars. There is no point keeping a fool like that; used as an offering to smooth relations over, at least that counts as making use of scrap.”

Everyone present knew that to be acknowledged by a top-level researcher of the spatial school like Savien meant that after tonight, Jie Ming’s standing had changed utterly.

Just as they said, if that family acted with a little decisiveness, the wizard who had tried to probe him might genuinely be made an “offering.”

And this was not merely simple fear of Jie Ming’s connections; it was a far more practical calculation. To be acknowledged by Savien meant Jie Ming’s talent was certainly enough to cultivate to eighth-level wizard.

Sacrificing one junior of the family to dissolve the enmity of a future top-level eighth-level wizard was quite a profitable trade.

…

…

Soon a month had passed in the blink of an eye.

For the other attending wizards, that month went mostly on getting familiar with the environment or calling on old friends, accumulating connections for the coming academic exchange conference.

For Jie Ming, though, that month was a stretch of high-intensity research life from beginning to end.

Over that month Jie Ming had very nearly never returned to the lodgings arranged for him, because he had spent the overwhelming majority of his time living directly in Savien’s laboratory.

The pace of the two men’s research could fairly be called insane.

Before this, Jie Ming had always assumed that even the maddest research maniac could only work twenty-four hours in a day.

But Savien informed him that this notion was far too naive!

Back on the Triangle Plane, Jie Ming had used an “Interval of Temporal Rhythm” and never stopped thinking about it since; it was one of the few structures that could help accelerate a wizard’s research (Chapter 307).

And that thing… was a specialty of the Void Architecture Academy.

Savien waved a hand and simply had an Interval of Temporal Rhythm brought in, and by the look of it a more advanced one than the one he had used back on the Triangle Plane!

Fortunately Savien retained a little humanity and did not turn the Interval of Temporal Rhythm’s time acceleration up to maximum.

But even so, Jie Ming had to work over two hundred hours a day that month!

The two of them worked continuously through deductions and modifications around the Self-Stabilizing Field Regulation Protocol, and one theory after another that had already been mature enough was taken apart and reassembled in their hands into new technique.

Sometimes a single new flash of inspiration would immediately overturn every result of the preceding several days.

And as their exchange deepened, Jie Ming came to truly appreciate how formidable Savien, this titan of the spatial school, was.

Before this, Clark had been the cleverest person Jie Ming had ever met, capable of independently creating entirely new systems.

In Savien he saw a wisdom that went a step further.

Savien could indeed create entirely new systems too, but more terrible than his creative ability was his own store of knowledge.

Savien was like a boundless ocean of knowledge. For very nearly any problem in the spatial field, he could immediately call to mind dozens of approaches along with the strengths and weaknesses behind each.

And then, according to present conditions, rapidly find the line of development best suited to the topic at hand.

Jie Ming himself lost count of how many times he marveled at that very nearly terrifying store of knowledge.

That Jie Ming could hold a discussion with this great figure so long was due entirely to splitting his attention two ways, searching out relevant materials and information in the depths of his consciousness through the Great Dao Book Pavilion while converting that information into wizard-world knowledge and putting it out.

And however difficult the knowledge Jie Ming put out, Savien could rapidly understand and order it, then rapidly convert it into his own store of knowledge and go on feeding back.

Later on Jie Ming was relying wholly on the Entropy Brain talent evolved through the Body Forging Method to passively organize the vast mass of knowledge, which alone kept his brain from crashing.

At the same time, though, Jie Ming’s own improvement was extraordinarily marked.

The chief gain was an increase in his own mastery of the spatial law.

If a hundred percent law mastery is taken as a base of one, then over this month Jie Ming’s spatial law had climbed past twenty, far exceeding his previous highest, the time law, and pulling away steadily.

Correspondingly, of course, Savien was likewise shaken again and again by the directions of Jie Ming’s understanding across various fields of knowledge.

Many spatial problems that had troubled him for centuries were resolved at a stroke in Jie Ming’s hands, perhaps by nothing more than changing the angle of observation.

So as Savien saw it, although this little wizard Jie Ming reacted somewhat slowly, over the month the two of them had grown more and more in tune.

Often one man would have only just raised a hypothesis and the other would already have carried the line of thought onward.

In one short month, the version of the technique the two of them had perfected together already far exceeded the standard of the original design.

…

…

At last the day of the academic exchange conference’s formal opening arrived.

Jie Ming was finally released from that hellish stretch of research life.

By custom, the first day of the formal opening did not begin with formal sessions, but with a welcome reception held in the evening.

This counted as an informal social opening, and was the most relaxed part of the whole exchange conference.

The main purpose was simply for everyone to get acquainted, exchange cards, and talk about their recent research directions.
