I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 788: Flowers Planted with Care Do Not Bloom

~5 minute read · 1,336 words

A few days later.

Noren No. 147 Academy, Jie Ming’s private laboratory.

As a silver-white pillar of teleportation light came down, the array at the center of the laboratory lit slowly, and a tall figure stepped out. A black and gold robe fell to her ankles, smooth silver-gray hair spilled over her shoulders, and a familiar aura of law spread out like a tide. It was Viola.

The moment she stepped clear of the array, her gaze went straight to Jie Ming at the experiment bench.

Their eyes met for barely an instant before Viola blinked.

Then, as though she had discovered something utterly appalling, she retreated two exaggerated steps, one hand deliberately raised across her chest, her face full of wariness. “Wait! You are not Jie Ming!”

She looked the figure before her up and down, her tone perfectly serious.

“This is a puppet. Who exactly are you? Hand my junior brother over!”

At that, Jie Ming’s temple twitched. “I am right here.”

Viola shook her head with extraordinary conviction. “No! As far as I am concerned, there is nothing here but a remotely operated doll.”

Jie Ming felt he could hear his own teeth grinding. “…have you had enough yet?”

Viola was not the least bit cowed by his tone. She folded her arms, strolled a slow circle around him, observing and clicking her tongue in wonder as she went. “So… this is the experiment you told me the other day was not dangerous.”

“Are you really sure it is not dangerous? You do not even have a body now! Do not tell me you called me here to announce your last wishes?” At that Viola suddenly brightened, and deliberately reached out to pat him lightly on the shoulder. “Do not worry, your senior sister will look after the laboratory for you. And you can rest easy leaving me your accounts to inherit as well!”

Jie Ming finally had to put a hand to his forehead.

“Senior Sister, I have no intention of dying, and my condition is due to other causes. It has nothing to do with today’s experiment.” Viola raised an eyebrow, plain regret showing on her face.

“Really?”

“Really.”

“Not an experimental accident?”

“No.”

“Nothing got out of control?”

“No.”

“You did not refine yourself out of existence?”

“…No!”

Watching Jie Ming’s face darken further and further, Viola finally could not hold it in and burst out laughing.

“Hahahaha… all right, all right, I will stop teasing you.”

She laughed until her eyes curved. “Though you are rather interesting like this. If the soul fluctuations were not still yours, I would have thought you had swapped yourself out for someone else.”

Jie Ming shook his head helplessly. It seemed his senior sister’s vicious hobby was not going to be cured in this lifetime.

He simply stopped explaining, turned, and led the way. “Come with me.”

The two of them passed through a metal partition door that opened automatically and came to the other side of the laboratory.

It was a good deal quieter here than in the main laboratory, with only the faint hum of the cultivation apparatus in the air.

Three of the pods stood open, three figures floating slowly in pale green nutrient solution.

Seeing who was inside, Viola stopped in her tracks.

Then she blinked, turned her head slowly, and looked at Jie Ming.

“This is…”

Inside the pods, three Violas floated quietly.

Viola circled the pods once.

Then, suddenly, she wore an expression of dawning comprehension.

“So that is it.” She nodded with perfect gravity. “I understand now.”

Jie Ming glanced at her.

“You wretch. What exactly do you understand?”

Viola paid his choice of address no mind at all. She reached out and patted a pod, saying with a smile:

“So you wanted my life information in order to make dolls of me.”

She suddenly leaned in close, her expression mocking:

“You should have said so sooner. Why study it in secret? Your senior sister is right here, and could perfectly well assist with the manufacture in person.”

She even deliberately squared her shoulders, the picture of generosity:

“You may study anywhere you like.”

Jie Ming: “…”

A vein at his temple twitched.

It suddenly occurred to him that asking Viola to help with an experiment might have been his single greatest mistake.

Drawing a deep breath, Jie Ming decided to give up on explaining.

Because the more he explained, the more energetic his senior sister became.

Jie Ming simply raised a hand and pointed at the center of the laboratory, where a dark red array covering the entire floor had long since been laid out. Countless complex patterns interwove, with an independent platform at the center.

“Stand there.”

Viola followed his finger.

“Hm? Over there?”

“Yes.”

“Just stand?”

“Correct.”

Viola did not hesitate, and walked over with a light step.

Her mouth, however, was not idle for a moment as she went. “My, I had no idea your tastes were so particular.”

“Seriously though, if you are going to mass-produce me later, remember to make them pretty.”

“Oh, and better make them a bit shorter. I like the small ones.”

She looked down at her own figure.

“Mm… nothing else needs changing much. I am quite confident there.”

The corner of Jie Ming’s mouth twitched.

“Senior Sister. Stand still and stop moving about.”

“Yes, yes.” Viola raised both hands with a smile. “I am being very cooperative.”

She stepped to the center of the array, her body naturally relaxed, without a trace of guardedness.

Jie Ming slowly closed his eyes, and his mental energy covered the entire hall in an instant.

Hmmm…

The blood sacrifice array started slowly, dark red lines lighting one after another.

At the same time, the three pods opened automatically.

The nutrient solution drained rapidly, and inside, three Viola clones at the level of sixth-level beings slowly stood up.

Jie Ming extended his right hand and closed it lightly.

“Blood sacrifice.”

Boom!

The whole array roared into motion.

All three clones began breaking down at once, turning entirely into streams of bright red light that surged along the array’s lines toward Viola at the center. In the instant the blood sacrifice began, the playful smile vanished from Viola’s face.

Runes surfaced rapidly in the pupils of her open eyes, the left turning brilliant gold and the right deep blue.

Viola deployed dozens of detection spells at very nearly the same moment, layer upon layer of rotating data screens even appearing around her, parsing the situation at high speed.

Time passed slowly.

A moment later, the light on the array gradually died away, and the whole laboratory returned to quiet.

Viola went on standing there with her eyes closed, saying nothing, and Jie Ming did not hurry her, only waited quietly to one side while she took it in. Several minutes later, Viola slowly opened her eyes.

The next instant she all but threw herself in front of Jie Ming, her eyes astonishingly bright.

“Jie Ming! You have done it!”

There was undisguised delight in her voice. “This technique is incredible!”

The worry Jie Ming had been carrying finally settled, and a smile appeared on his face.

“How was the effect?”

Viola drew a deep breath, her tone excited.

“The effect is extremely good! Just now, my mental energy rose by nearly thirty percent!”

She held out both hands as though feeling the surge of power inside her.

“And with no hidden danger at all! Not even the slightest instability in my soul origin, as though I had meditated this mental energy up myself.”

“It is simply unbelievable!”

The more Viola said, the more excited she grew. “This is no ordinary enhancement technique. If you made it public, the whole Star Ring Federation would be shaken. Wizards short on mental energy would fight tooth and nail over it.”

But as she spoke, the smile on Jie Ming’s face slowly froze.

“…what?”
