I Arrived At Wizard World While Cultivating Immortality Chapter 777: The True Body, and an Overload

~6 minute read · 1,564 words

Ten years passed in the blink of an eye.

On this day, having timed it out, Jie Ming wrapped up the experiment in front of him early.

He stood at his workbench, entered the last set of experimental data into the terminal, confirmed that every line of research had gone over to automatic operation, and only then sat down slowly in the metal chair at the center of the laboratory.

He was silent a moment.

“…it is a meeting the dean is chairing personally, after all.”

Jie Ming tapped lightly at the armrest and gave a small laugh.

“Better go in the real body. At least it is somewhat more formal.”

The words fell, and the laboratory went quiet again.

The “Jie Ming” sitting in the chair suddenly stopped moving entirely.

His gaze gradually lost focus, his arms fell slack, his breathing stopped.

The whole figure seemed to lose life in an instant, sitting there like a finely made doll, perfectly still.

At the same moment.

On the Infernal Sulfur Plane, in the near orbit beyond the continent, a “satellite” that had hung there for a full century and more slowly moved.

It was of course no satellite. It was Jie Ming’s genuine body.

Ever since the Second Layer Dharma Form had completed its transformation, the five-hundred-kilometer dark golden true body had sat cross-legged in the space beyond the continent, like some ancient deity in eternal sleep.

His body was simply too vast.

Looking up at the sky from the continent, one could see only a dark golden outline blotting out the heavens, like a second continent hanging in the firmament. Ordinary living things could not take in the whole of it at all, and could only watch, at the turning of day and night, as that enormous figure drifted slowly across the light of the star and cast a moving shadow over the land.

Ever since learning how difficult the Mustard Seed Dao-Holding True Body Art was to cultivate, Jie Ming had simply refined a high-level alchemical puppet, projected his consciousness into it for the long term, and gone on with his experiments and research inside the continent.

As for his genuine main body, that had remained in the void, cultivating.

That way it neither pressed on the still somewhat fragile spatial structure of the Infernal Sulfur continent, nor missed out on the denser elemental tides of space, which let him go on tempering his true body.

And now.

The giant god, silent for a century, finally stretched slowly.

The knee joints, long folded, extended bit by bit, and from that single utterly ordinary motion alone, visible transparent ripples rose in layers across tens of thousands of kilometers of space, as though the whole void had been pressed gently by an invisible hand.

Then a vast dark golden arm braced against the void, and the five-hundred-kilometer body slowly stood.

Boom…

There is no sound in vacuum, and yet every living thing on the Infernal Sulfur continent seemed to hear an extremely deep rumble. As the giant rose, the shadow he cast swept slowly across the continent.

Sunlight over great swathes of it dimmed in an instant.

In a city built specially to house the families of the Tentacle Tree researchers, countless Tentacle Tree residents raised their canopies, their glittering compound eyes reflecting the dark golden deity slowly rising in the sky.

At a construction site, the Black Giant priests stopped working as well.

The vertical mouths in their chests opened together, giving off a low, orderly resonance.

“Our great Master is moving his true body.”

“Continue operations in all zones. There is no cause for alarm.”

Several of the priests issued notices to those around them with practiced ease.

Evidently this was not the first time they had seen the sight.

Jie Ming stood in the void, both faces, front and back, sweeping slowly across the whole continent.

In his three golden vertical eyes, the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil and the All-Purpose Eye ran together.

Only after confirming that the shadow did not cover the main residential districts, did not affect the stellar farms, and did not block the Creation System’s energy collection did he nod slightly.

“Good.”

The next moment.

The enormous true body began drawing in.

The five-hundred-kilometer dark golden giant collapsed steadily inward from the edges of its body.

At last, a young human man in a black wizard’s robe stood quietly in the void.

Jie Ming looked down at his own hands and let out a light breath.

This was only the most ordinary phantom body and did not genuinely solve the problem of an oversized true body, but for a short while it would do.

He stepped onto the Infernal Sulfur Plane’s teleportation array, and a silver-white pillar of spatial light shot up into the sky.

Noren Plane No. 147.

The academy’s central teleportation plaza.

Hmmm!!!

A silver-white pillar of light descended slowly.

Jie Ming stepped out of the array.

But before his second foot had entirely come down.

Bang!

The array suddenly gave off a crisp report.

The sound was not loud, but it was exceptionally jarring.

The dozens of rings of spatial runes across the whole array flickered violently, jumping a dozen times in succession, and then dimmed rapidly as though every scrap of energy had been drained out of them.

Crack…

As fine fissures opened across several spatial crystals at the array’s edge, a thin wisp of gray smoke drifted slowly up.

The entire plaza went silent in an instant.

Beside another teleportation array, several dozen wizards who had just arrived for the meeting turned their heads as one.

They looked at the smoking array, then at Jie Ming, who had just walked out, then at the array beneath his feet that was still running perfectly well. Their gazes moved back and forth, and for a moment the air went rather eerily quiet.

Jie Ming glanced down at the smoking array, then looked up to meet all those eyes, and the corner of his mouth could not help twitching. There was a certain awkwardness in his expression.

“…that probably was not me?”

Even he did not sound convinced.

Jie Ming knew perfectly well that he seemed to have caused trouble the moment he arrived.

He worked it out quickly. The teleportation arrays on the Infernal Sulfur Plane were all engineering-grade ones he had built himself, with very high load capacity so they could better transport all kinds of materials.

So over these years, his true body had never felt much of anything even when using one.

And this academy, quite clearly, used only a standard sixth-level array.

Granted, extra load margin was reserved to accommodate war wizards transporting large puppets, war beast herds and even plane legions, but reserved margin was still only reserved margin.

And his situation… had plainly gone off the scale.

That the array had delivered him here intact meant its build quality was genuinely solid.

At that thought, Jie Ming felt somewhat embarrassed.

The wizards around him, however, were thoroughly stunned.

One or two had a twitching mouth, someone quietly retreated half a step, and several younger wizards had already begun sizing Jie Ming up again. Overloading a Noren Academy teleportation array by himself…

They had never so much as heard of such a thing before.

Just then, a magnificent and vast consciousness descended slowly from high above the whole plane.

There was no coercive pressure in it at all, and yet it was like a boundless sea settling gently down out of the sky.

Every wizard on the plaza raised his head almost at once, and they identified the source immediately: it was Dean Avery Knight of Noren No. 147 Academy.

To everyone else, a seventh-level wizard’s consciousness scan was only vast, gentle mental energy, wrapping the whole academy softly like an ocean. But what Jie Ming saw was entirely different.

Under the combined effect of his Law Solidification Domain and the True-False Void-Piercing Pupil, he clearly saw an eye… slowly open in the sky above. It was an eye large enough to cover the whole firmament.

In its depths, countless law runes turned slowly, layer upon layer, as though the rules of the entire plane had gathered inside it.

It looked calmly down at the teleportation plaza, and at last its gaze settled on Jie Ming.

First there was the scrutiny of a routine inspection, and then a certain helplessness slowly surfaced.

The feeling was like a laboratory researcher bending down to check his incubator.

Only to find that the specimen inside had cracked a piece off the petri dish.

Meeting that enormous eye blotting out the sky, the smile on Jie Ming’s face turned rather awkward.

He raised a hand and waved at the sky.

After two seconds of silence, he coughed dryly.

“Ahem! Ah… I will pay for it.”

The great law eye in the sky watched him quietly for a while.

Then it slowly closed.

That magnificent will covering heaven and earth withdrew like a receding tide, and sunlight fell across the plaza again.

Only at that moment did everyone around let out a breath together.

Only now, when they looked at Jie Ming, there was something rather complicated in their eyes.
