Chapter 591: Huh? Us?

Five years later.

Jie Ming stood at the edge of the Eastern District plains, gazing at the enormous array before him and letting out a soft sigh.

After decades of construction the Dao Soldier System, a colossal array covering the entire plain, had finally been fully calibrated and completed.

One hundred and eight rune pillars stood in neat formation, each one emitting stable waves of energy.

The central control hub had already been activated and could be put into operation at any moment.

“I really want to refine one right now and test it…”

Regret filled Jie Ming’s voice.

According to the records in the Great Dao Book Pavilion, Dao Soldiers were best refined using Imperial Flow Paste, which produced the optimal results.

Over the years, aside from what he had used for experimental testing, he had accumulated quite a bit of Imperial Flow Paste – exactly enough for the task.

However, refining Dao Soldiers was not something that could be done overnight.

Just the preparatory work alone took months to complete, and the actual refinement process required continuous output of spiritual power without any interruption.

Today, however, was the day he had arranged with Viola.

Jie Ming withdrew his gaze, turned around, and headed toward the teleportation array.

“I’ll try it after I get back. I hope this trip won’t disappoint me.”

The teleportation array lit up, and silvery-white spatial energy swallowed him whole.

Noren Plane No. 1.

The moment Jie Ming stepped out of the teleportation array, every hair on his body stood on end.

An invisible pressure surged in from all directions, heavy and suffocating, like the water pressure in the deep sea.

But Jie Ming quickly calmed himself, because he immediately recognized that it was not an attack aimed at him.

It was the natural dissipation of spiritual power from countless powerhouses, converging into an invisible ocean.

He raised his head and looked at the sky.

The gray-blue dome trembled faintly. The entire atmosphere was vibrating at an extremely low frequency.

Ordinary people could not sense this vibration at all, but Jie Ming could clearly perceive that it was the residual force waves from countless mighty existences clashing and resonating in the air.

As the earliest plane established by Noren Workshop, after hundreds of thousands of years of development, Noren Plane No. 1 was no longer the ordinary plane it once was.

Thousands of plane fusions and countless spatial expansions had transformed it from a medium-sized plane into a true “super-large plane.” Yet at this moment, even the atmosphere of this super-large plane was trembling.

Jie Ming took a deep breath and suppressed the shock in his heart.

He had seen a scene like this once before.

Decades ago, during the wizard war between Noren Workshop, the Chaos Secret Cult, and the Tower of Annihilation, the elemental disturbances caused by the gathering of over ten thousand high-ranking wizards had produced exactly this kind of effect.

His originally somewhat relaxed expression turned serious.

Apart from that wizard war, he had never seen so many high-ranking wizards gathered in one place.

Even when his master Anton Buchanan advanced to eighth-ring wizard, the number of high-ranking wizards who came to observe the ceremony had not been this many.

“We’re not going to war with another wizard faction again, are we…”

Jie Ming muttered to himself.

But he quickly dismissed the thought.

Although the atmosphere around him was solemn, it was not tense.

The wizards hurrying past did not wear the grim killing intent of pre-battle preparations on their faces. Instead, they carried a kind of… anticipation?

Jie Ming shook his head, stopped overthinking, and strode toward Noren No. 1 Academy.

Along the way, his suspicions were constantly confirmed.

There were simply too many high-ranking wizards.

Figures in robes of various colors passed by him, all heading in the same direction.

Sixth-ring wizards were everywhere, and seventh-ring wizards were not uncommon.

A steady stream of high-ranking wizards arrived through teleportation arrays, converging toward Noren No. 1 Academy.

Jie Ming quickened his pace, passed through the academy gates, and followed the central avenue all the way to the main square.

Then he stopped.

The square was enormous; he could not see its end at a glance.

Yet at this moment, this vast space was filled entirely with high-ranking wizards.

Jie Ming swept his gaze across the area and quickly made a mental estimate.

Every figure in colorful robes was at least sixth-ring.

Seventh-ring auras were everywhere; a single glance could spot dozens.

There was not a single mid- or low-ranking wizard.

Or rather, any wizard below sixth-ring had already retreated on their own due to the overwhelming oppressive pressure emanating from the square.

Standing at the edge of the square, Jie Ming suddenly felt rather conspicuous.

Because he was only fifth-ring.

In the entire square, he was probably the only fifth-ring wizard.

He subconsciously looked for familiar faces, trying to ease the awkwardness of not belonging.

Then he saw another person.

In a corner on the other side of the square, a young man in a gray robe stood there, his face filled with the bewildered expression of “why am I even here,” completely different from the confident demeanor he once had.

It was David.

Looking at him, Jie Ming almost laughed out loud.

Just like him—fifth-ring.

The only two wizards in the entire square below sixth-ring.

Jie Ming waved at him from afar.

David immediately noticed him, looking as if he had been granted amnesty. He squeezed through the crowd and hurried over.

“Jie Ming!” David’s voice carried a trace of relief, as if he had survived a disaster. “You’re here too?”

Jie Ming nodded. “I was summoned. What about you?”

David pulled a bitter face. “My mentor told me to come and broaden my horizons. But when I got here, I realized this isn’t broadening horizons – it’s torture.” He lowered his voice and pointed at the surrounding high-ranking wizards. “Try being stared at by dozens of seventh-ring wizards at the same time. My legs are shaking.”

Jie Ming couldn’t help but laugh. “What a coincidence. Mine are shaking too.”

“Do you know what’s going on?” David asked.

Jie Ming shook his head. “You’re asking the wrong person. I really have no idea.”

As the two were talking, a lazy female voice suddenly came from behind them.

“You two, what are you standing here in a daze for?”

Jie Ming turned his head and saw Viola walking out from the crowd.

She wore a deep purple robe, and her aura was even more profound than when they had last met.

It seemed that these years under Mentor Clark had been quite “intense” for her.

“Senior Sister.” Seeing a familiar person, Jie Ming felt himself relax quite a bit. “What exactly is happening?”

Viola walked up to the two of them, the corners of her mouth curling into a playful smile.

“Well…”

Viola raised her index finger and waved it in front of them. “Strictly speaking, these wizards have gathered here because of the two of you.”

“???”

Jie Ming and David froze at the same time.

“Us?” David’s voice cracked. “I don’t even know what this place is for!”

Jie Ming frowned as well. “Senior Sister, this joke isn’t funny.”

“It’s not a joke.”

Another voice came from the side.

Jie Ming turned his head and saw Avery Knight, the dean, walking over slowly.

The dean of Noren No. 147 Academy wore a deep blue robe, and his seventh-ring wizard aura was steady and restrained.

“Wizard Avery Knight.” Jie Ming saluted.

David also saluted, the confusion on his face deepening.

Avery Knight stopped in front of the two, his gaze sweeping over Jie Ming and David, a faint smile on his lips.

“Viola is right. This ‘gathering’ is largely thanks to the two of you.”

Jie Ming and David exchanged a glance, both seeing shock and bewilderment in each other’s eyes.

Huh?

Us?
