I Am Unaware That I Am the Peerless Martial God Chapter 1331: Promise
Previously on I Am Unaware That I Am the Peerless Martial God...
A few days passed in the blink of an eye.
Following the event where the Old Clan Head stopped by the schoolhouse, the kids threw themselves into their lessons with fresh determination. Each pupil overflowed with passion and drive. Parents who swung by from time to time to fetch or drop off their young ones showed faces lit up with pure joy.
Thanks to this vibrant study environment, Yi Feng relished the calm and serenity. It spared him from giving endless heartfelt talks, smoothing out his routine more and more while turning his existence even lazier.
Dusk had fallen once more, signaling the end of classes. Yi Feng responded to his pupils' goodbyes with a warm, affectionate grin, sensing a touch of pride inside.
After all, he led a cozy life here while shaping young hearts and minds. It wasn't thrown away, and it beat that foolish idea of courting death hands down.
He'd completely cut through all that chaotic stuff.
Just savoring the ease was enough for him.
Back in his yard, the kitchen overflowed with provisions and beverages, and fresh outfits filled his chamber. These came as signs of thanks from the locals, handed over by Maiden Wei. No concerns over meals or garb—in truth, he had surplus to start a store. What a joyful load to carry.
One had to admit, these folks in the village were just too genuine and warm-hearted.
He only taught basics like letters and words, nothing grand, but they showered him with gratitude. Maiden Wei dropped off items daily; her eagerness was getting tough to manage.
If not for the friendly hellos from so many around, Yi Feng might've imagined this young woman harbored a crush on him, borrowing the folks' names as a cover to shower him with presents.
Strolling through the yard, Yi Feng sensed total ease. He'd settled into these laid-back times. Still, holing up in the schoolhouse day in and day out wouldn't work forever.
First off, beyond guiding classes and reining in the rowdy kids, there was zilch to occupy him, leaving things a tad boring. Secondly, chowing down on all the wild game and crops from others daily was packing on the pounds.
In his idleness, Yi Feng glanced up at the lush peak rising behind his home.
The woods teemed with life, birds singing and soaring freely.
Bathed in the dying light of day, the stunning vista resembled a vivid scroll brimming with mood. It stirred his curiosity and tugged at his spirit.
"Haven't hunted in ages. How about a wander through the hills? Perhaps the prey I snag myself will taste even sweeter..."
Mumbling to himself, Yi Feng felt a rush of eagerness.
In this modest settlement, families clustered together, so safety was no issue; homes stayed open at night, and folks ignored dropped goods on paths without a second thought.
He strode right through the front entrance, veering to the right toward the emerald slope beyond the school.
To his surprise, before clearing the mud wall near the school, he bumped straight into Wei Xiaowei.
She donned a fresh cyan gown that looked tailor-made, appearing neat and graceful. Her flowing locks had been neatly arranged. With barely any makeup, she struck him as far more refined and charming than before.
Noting her circumstances brightening, Yi Feng grinned and traded greetings.
"Maiden Wei, did you hunt another monster beast?"
Wei Xiaowei dipped her head in respect, cheeks tinting pink.
"Greetings, Teacher Yi."
"Yesterday we did indeed catch a monster beast and exchanged it for quite a bit of silver. The share we received is enough for several months of expenses. We heard that you intend to practice martial arts with the Old Clan Head, and since we still had some beast meat, everyone insisted on giving it to you."
As she explained, the girl extended a lotus leaf bundle with both hands, eyes averted from his.
Faced with this generosity, Yi Feng nodded in thanks.
He understood their hardships well, so he promptly refused, his voice growing firm.
"Maiden Wei, there is no need for you all to be so polite."
"These past few days, everyone has sent plenty of food and clothing; I can't use it all by myself. This beast meat is truly a bit too valuable. I absolutely cannot accept it. I appreciate the kindness, but this cannot continue."
Catching his resolute tone, Wei Xiaowei nibbled her crimson lip briefly before yielding with regret.
Drawing back the lotus leaf package in defeat, she pressed on with worry.
"Teacher."
"It's about to get dark. Why are you out here alone? Are you going to the street to buy some food? If you don't mind, why not come to my house for dinner?"
Met with this close offer, Yi Feng honestly shared his plans.
"Thank you for your kindness, Maiden Wei, but I'm not looking for food."
"I just saw how beautiful the mountain scenery is, and since I have nothing to do, I wanted to go up for a stroll and watch the sunset."
To his shock, right after he finished, Wei Xiaowei’s face shifted in alarm!
"Ah?!"
"Teacher, you absolutely must not go up the mountain rashly!"
"The scenery may look nice, but there are many monster beasts inside. If the Old Clan Head hadn't set up a formation at the foot of the mountain, the beasts would have swarmed into the town long ago!"
"Going up alone is far too risky. You might even face life-threatening danger!"
Yi Feng had encountered the words "life-threatening danger" way too often.
Back then, without grasping his own power, he might've clung to hope, believing he could at last fulfill that suicidal quest. He'd have jumped at the chance.
Yet these days, Yi Feng's mind stayed utterly serene.
Disillusionments had piled up too high.
So much so that his spirit had turned numb.
He replied with a grin, voice steady as ever.
"It's fine. I'll just walk around randomly; I won't go deep. Don't worry."
Wei Xiaowei heard him out, her slender brows knitting a bit; concern lingered heavily.
After eyeing him closely for seconds, she urged once more.
"Teacher Yi, you absolutely cannot go up Qingmang Mountain alone!"
"If you really want to climb the mountain to admire the scenery, why not go with us tomorrow? It just so happens that I will be accompanying the hunting squad up the mountain."
"Since we’ve had a good harvest recently, we won't be going deep inside, only patrolling the periphery. There won't be any danger, which makes it suitable for you to join us, Teacher."
"So, if it works for you, Teacher, I will wait for you at the foot of the mountain tomorrow."
"Otherwise, I absolutely cannot let you go up."
The girl's words grew firmer, her look turning resolute; she wouldn't back down.
Confronted by this caring push, Yi Feng couldn't resist a soft chuckle and gave in.
"Alright."
"Tomorrow at dusk, I'll be there."
At that, Wei Xiaowei finally beamed. Once settled, she recalled something joyful, erasing all traces of her earlier letdown over the refused gift.
Her graceful form dashed off, waving goodbye beneath the fading sun, her smile blooming like a blossom.
"Teacher Yi!"
"You must remember! Tomorrow at dusk, don't be late!"
