I Am A Boss Mommy That Wants To Slack Chapter 5

“No need.”
Chu Cichen replied in a cold tone, “I’ve only been schemed against that one time.”
Deep regret filled Matriarch Chu’s heart.
Yet, she comprehended Chu Cichen’s refusal well. There must have been a cause for the scheme against him back then. Moreover, she had accidentally learned that her son cherished someone deeply. Unfortunately, some mysterious circumstances had torn him apart from his beloved.
That explained his constant postponement in granting Lin Wanru an official position.
Still, every child inevitably requires their mother’s presence.
Matriarch Chu pulled back her musings and lifted Chu Xiaomeng toward the upper floor. “Little one, an older brother is upstairs, though he’s already asleep. Tomorrow, once he’s awake, I’ll have him keep you company.”
Once Chu Xiaomeng was settled into slumber, Matriarch Chu exited the room. She directed the butler, “Shen Ruojing may have stirred up trouble for us, but the kid remains blameless. Ensure she’s well looked after.”
“Yes.”
The butler inclined her head. After a brief pause, she added, “Miss Lin has spread rumors using the Chu Family’s reputation. The story claims you’re furious and want the Shen Family gone from Sea City forever.”
Matriarch Chu’s brows furrowed instantly. A figure of authority for years exuded natural威严 even in calm. “It’s no surprise Cichen avoids her. Her mind brims with endless plots!”
The butler inquired, “Shall we set the record straight?”
Matriarch Chu let out a sigh. “Doing that would slap Lin Wanru’s face publicly—and that’d be like slapping our own in the process.”
Chu Yu, the grandson she had raised herself, was why Matriarch Chu pushed for Lin Wanru to wed Chu Cichen.
Matriarch Chu dismissed it with a wave. “Never mind.”
Shen Ruojing had disrupted Matriarch Chu’s birthday feast without cause. Without some minor consequence, folks might question the reason behind it.
The following morning.
Matriarch Chu escorted Chu Xiaomeng downstairs for breakfast after she awoke.
Upon descending, Chu Xiaomeng spotted a boy her age perched on the sofa. Her eyes widened in surprise.
From his elevated spot on the sofa, Chu Yu eyed her. As Sea City’s top little young master, he always showed his true feelings to everyone.
He looked over at Chu Xiaomeng.
Hmm, she truly looked adorable.
Chu Yu straightened his posture, tilting his chin upward a bit.
Earlier, his grandmother mentioned a new little sister had come to their house. Even though her mom’s image wasn’t great, kids shouldn’t suffer for grown-up issues.
So, upon meeting Chu Xiaomeng, ought he say hello?
Ignoring her outright wouldn’t sit well.
Yet, the servants whispered that her mother had upset his grandmother, so greeting her might not be wise…
The girl maintained a poker face while sitting, though her heart raced wildly. As Chu Yu wrestled with his dilemma, he noticed Chu Xiaomeng staring forward, utterly ignoring him.
Chu Yu: “!!”
(Such a proud and aloof vibe!)
Despite her poor family background, she possessed captivating beauty.
In his mind, Chu Yu awarded her full marks.
Little did he know, as Chu Xiaomeng bowed her head, she repeatedly whispered inwardly, “He won’t notice me, he won’t notice me…”
Life with social anxiety was that straightforward!
–
Lin Family.
Stricken with a cold, Lin Wanru lay abed, sneezing nonstop.
Recalling last night’s shame, she spat viciously, “If I’d snatched all three of her triplets back then, none of this mess would’ve happened!”
Five years prior, Lin Wanru had crossed paths with Chu Cichen and Shen Ruojing at a hotel by coincidence.
Afterward, Chu Cichen disappeared, and Shen Ruojing’s missing persons alert blew up everywhere. That’s when Lin Wanru grasped that Shen Ruojing knew nothing of the man’s status—and was even pregnant.
Thus, Lin Wanru had her mother monitor Shen Ruojing. By paying off a doctor, they altered her pregnancy records from triplets to twins.
Shen Ruojing underwent general anesthesia for the C-section, remaining totally oblivious.
Lin Wanru never imagined the truth would surface one day.
Madam Lin knitted her brows. “Stealing even one nearly got us caught by her dad. Why chase triplets anyway? Soon, you’ll bear Young Master Chen’s child yourself. Do you want his wealth split among three brats?”
Lips bitten in frustration, Lin Wanru nearly wept from anxiety. “What now?”
Madam Lin reassured her. “Relax. Shen Ruojing can’t reach Young Master Chen anymore. Plus, her family will vanish from Sea City shortly. I’m off to crush the Shen Family. Await my triumph!”
–
Before the three-story townhouse.
Shen Ruojing rose punctually. After some tai chi, she lounged on the sofa, anticipating the DNA lab’s report.
Creak~
The door swung open as her mother, Shen Qianhui, entered looking drained. Despite overtime exhaustion dulling her lovely oval face under light makeup, her gaze sparkled with thrill. “Jingjing, I’ve got fantastic news to share!”
Without pause for Shen Ruojing’s response, Shen Qianhui pressed on, “I just landed a massive deal for the Shen Family. Your grandmother will definitely promote me back to general manager!”
Sipping wolfberry tea, Shen Ruojing responded coolly, “That’s the thirteenth time this year you’ve claimed that. They’ll probably just toss you a small bonus.”
Shen Qianhui sighed. “Jingjing, I get you hold grudges against your grandmother. But she had no choice except to kick us out back then. Truth is, she never stopped caring. After all these years, haven’t I stayed on at the Shen Family company? They even send living expenses monthly without fail…”
“You earn it through your skills. Switch firms, and your pay would soar higher.”
At those words, worry clouded Shen Qianhui’s features. “Don’t speak like that… She’s not my real mom, so it’s generous enough already!”
Shen Ruojing fell silent.
In fact, Matriarch Shen had adopted Shen Qianhui for her looks, planning a political marriage. Unexpectedly, Shen Qianhui excelled in business far beyond her two inept sons.
Joining at 18, Shen Qianhui propelled the company’s expansion.
Matriarch Shen reconsidered the marriage ploy. She blocked suitors by claiming reluctance to part with her daughter, then picked obscure actor Jing Zhen as son-in-law.
Five years back, Shen Ruojing’s scandal erupted, so Matriarch Shen ousted them, citing harm to Shen Qianhui’s cousin, demoting her from GM to sales.
Really, it stripped Shen Qianhui’s power while keeping her slaving for profits—paid peanuts plus living stipends. Perfect scheme!
Regrettably, Shen Qianhui, yearning for maternal affection, refused to see it.
Shen Qianhui’s tone brightened as she probed, “Jingjing, if I shine even more, might your grandmother let us return home?”
“No.”
Shen Ruojing shattered the illusion bluntly.
Just then, Shen Qianhui’s phone buzzed. Glancing at it, her face shifted; she meekly answered.
“Mother…oh, come home? Sure…I’m on my way.”
Hanging up, excitement surged in Shen Qianhui. “See, Jingjing? I said your grandmother isn’t like that, yet you doubted. Now she summons me home—bet it’s to restore my GM role!”
She added, “Once I reclaim general manager, you must apologize for trash-talking her!”
With that, she hurried off eagerly.
Shen Ruojing meant to follow but her phone rang—the DNA Verification Institution.
Results were ready!
