His Genius Wife Is A Superstar Chapter 1 - The Woman In White
The atmosphere was heavy with the stench of gunpowder, death, and fresh blood. Overhead, a swarm of helicopters thrummed like rhythmic war drums, signaling a mass execution. Cries of agony and desperate shouts merged with the relentless crackle of gunfire. Thick smoke spiraled into the midnight sky, resembling a demonic specter reaching out to devour the celestial light of the moon and stars.
From within the mansion, a young woman clad in a white dress observed the hellish landscape. Standing shrouded in shadows, her emerald eyes scanned the slaughter unfolding beneath her balcony. The moonlight caught the strands of her golden hair, making her glow.
She appeared ethereal, resembling a celestial fairy who watched the mortal world tear itself apart while remaining untouched and divine.
Regrettably, she possessed no immortality. Fate had decreed that this night would be her end.
With a heavy sigh, she shut her eyes. She cast one final glance at the nightmare outside before turning away to approach the grand piano positioned in the center of the room.
Her five silent protectors moved in tandem with her, maintaining their roles as invisible shadows.
She was certain that her life was reaching its conclusion. Whether her parents or her older brother had survived the onslaught remained a mystery; they were likely already dead. Judging by the scale of the attack, the opposition intended to leave no one from her family alive.
Utilizing her sharpened senses, she detected the moment the intruders breached the mansion’s interior. The sounds of combat grew deafening as the violence moved closer to her chamber.
Her five bodyguards grew rigid, tightening their formation around her. Their gazes, filled with killing intent, were fixed firmly on the entrance.
She took a seat at the piano with gentle grace. Since the end was imminent, she decided to offer a melody to guide the souls of the fallen as they departed the living world. Inhaling deeply, she allowed her fingers to dance across the keys.
The notes of Beethoven began to drift through the air, weaving through the sounds of slaughter.
Suddenly, the doors were blown open. The bodyguards immediately engaged in a fierce firefight against the tide of police and soldiers.
Though the room filled with the metallic scent of blood and the tang of sweat, the radiant woman in white remained immersed in her music. She played as if the chaos was non-existent. Even when two stray bullets tore through her right hip and left shoulder, she did not falter, refusing to miss even a single note.
The melody harmonized with the surrounding violence so perfectly that the invading forces felt a chill run down their spines. There was something almost supernatural about the contrast between her elegant music and the brutal carnage.
The five bodyguards sacrificed themselves without hesitation to shield their lady. Trained from childhood to be cold-blooded assassins, they took down several foes, but they were simply overwhelmed by the enemy's numbers.
Eventually, the final protector collapsed, dead.
"Hands in the air!" a police officer barked.
The stunning woman in white paid him no mind. Her eyes remained closed, her body swaying gently as she continued her performance.
The soldiers and officers kept their weapons trained on her, mesmerized by the sight of her playing as if she were the sole inhabitant of the universe. Her once-pure white gown was now stained a deep crimson as blood seeped from her injuries.
Every person in the room was captivated by her transcendent beauty and poise.
It was a tragedy.
One soldier ground his teeth together. "We have our orders. Fire!"
A faint smile touched the woman's lips just before a hail of bullets struck her back. Her blood sprayed into the air like falling rose petals, splashing against the floor like heavy rain.
The music cut off instantly.
Her frame slumped forward onto the piano, her weight crashing against the keys to produce a final, jarring chord. The life quickly faded from her emerald eyes, yet their beauty remained undiminished.
She slid from the bench and hit the floor heavily.
"At last, I’m free," she whispered softly.
With that, her breath ceased forever.
