Xia Qingqian was caught by Ye Feng after a hushed phone call and brought before Beitang Yao. She feared he was angry and possibly tired of her, especially after seeing another woman leave his room looking happy. Beitang Yao ordered Ye Feng out, then pulled Xia Qingqian into his arms, questioning why she had been hesitant to enter, implying she misunderstood his earlier actions with Sophie.

Xia Qingqian lowered her eyes, falling silent.

Her silence stirred his impatience. He frowned, his low, muffled voice spreading through the air: "Qian Qian, lift your head, look at me." He let go of the hand he’d been gripping, letting her look at him of her own accord.

Xia Qingqian struggled inwardly for a long while. It wasn’t that she didn’t believe him, but both she and Ye Feng had seen the facts. Besides, she had no right to accuse him of finding other women; she wasn’t anyone special to him, she had no way to dictate his thoughts.

She slowly raised her head, looked at him, and changed the subject: "What do you want to eat? I’ll go to the mall and buy something to cook for you."

"Don’t dodge the topic. Just now—did you see all of it?" Beitang Yao forced himself not to lose his temper, quietly waiting for her answer.

"Mm." Xia Qingqian nodded, but let her gaze slide away from his. A trace of grievance instantly welled up in her eyes.

"Things aren’t what you saw. Sophie and I—there’s nothing between us." He explained lightly.

Xia Qingqian hurriedly turned her head to look at him. She knew that as long as he explained, then it really wasn’t what she thought, even if the image of him hugging that woman called Sophie was still echoing in her mind. But the moment she heard his explanation, a warm current surged through her heart and she nodded.

He only explains himself once; don’t ever expect a second time. That was something Xia Qingqian had figured out, so she chose to believe him—there really was nothing between him and Sophie.

Besides, a man of Beitang Yao’s status didn’t need to apologize to her over such a thing.

Xia Qingqian smiled, as if setting down a heavy weight in her heart. The cloud of worry between her brows slowly dispersed, and a hint of lightness slipped into her voice: "I understand!"

Seeing her finally smile, Beitang Yao’s heart smiled along with her, though his face still maintained its cool, indifferent look. "Without my permission, how did you dare come here on your own?"

Looks like her courage really was getting bigger and bigger—actually coming here without discussing it with him first, acting first and reporting later. And after coming, she even went off wildly imagining that he might be involved with some other woman. This woman seriously needed to be disciplined!

"I didn’t come on my own. The flight was arranged for me by Grandpa and Huan. Once everyone knew you were sick, they asked me to come take care of you, so I came." Xia Qingqian hurriedly explained.

"They were the ones who sent you?" Beitang Yao raised a brow, his voice low.

Xia Qingqian didn’t realize he was sulking, and simply nodded. "Grandpa and Huan both wanted me to come."

"So it wasn’t of your own free will?" Beitang Yao’s face darkened, and the hand resting behind her back tightened by a measure.

"I was the one who asked Huan and Grandpa to let me come! I didn’t know you were sick—I only found out after I called Ye Feng!" Xia Qingqian looked into his deep, dark eyes and said softly, "Young Master Yao, you’re ill, so why are you still working day and night? Do you not know how to cherish your own body? Before you came to France, what did you promise other people?"

Listening to her scolding, looking at her reddening eyes, he felt as if his illness wasn’t quite so painful anymore, and he even felt a bit more energetic.

"There’s just too much that has to be dealt with." He looked at her, sounding a little uneasy.

He would never tell her that it was because he wanted to return early and be with her that he was using one day as if it were three. He didn’t want her to know.

"You can still wait until you get better before you work! From now on, don’t treat yourself like this anymore, okay?" she said, heart aching. Unable to help herself, she lifted her hand and gently stroked his pale face, pressing her lips together. "Look at you—you’ve gotten so thin. These last two days you definitely haven’t been eating properly."
