Xia Qingqian learns that Beitang Yao called home, and she misses him dearly. She catches up with Ye Feng, expressing her concern for Beitang Yao's well-being and asking him to remind Young Master to eat and rest. Ye Feng notes Xia Qingqian's genuine care for Beitang Yao, contrasting her with other women.

"Qian Qian, I just knew you were watching Ye Feng leave, that’s why you found an excuse to come out!" While Xia Qingqian was still dazed, a voice came from behind. Xia Qingqian hurriedly turned around and gave Beitang Huan a slight smile.

"Are you missing Brother Yao?" Beitang Huan asked tentatively. "You look like you’ve got something on your mind. Are you feeling unwell somewhere?"

Beitang Huan knew that when someone has something weighing on their mind, the person they think of is always the one closest to them. Here, for Xia Qingqian, besides her, the closest person was only Beitang Yao.

Late at night, when everything was quiet, Xia Qingqian was awakened by the sound of insects chirping outside the window. She threw on a silk jacket and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out at the night scene by the light of the moon and the lamps outside.

Only, she felt like she was guarding the night all alone, and a faint sadness suddenly rose in her heart. The hand holding her phone had, many times, wanted to dial that number she knew by heart, but she still didn’t dare call!

She was afraid he had already gone to sleep, afraid of waking him up; if she woke him, he wouldn’t be able to rest again!

However, she still sent a text message: "Are you asleep?"

What time is it now? Is there anyone who still isn’t asleep? Besides, his work is so busy—he must be exhausted.

But in less than two seconds, her phone chimed. It was a text, from Beitang Yao: "Not yet."

Those brief two words made Xia Qingqian’s heart race! She wondered what exactly it was that was keeping him awake.

Just as she was lost in thought, the phone in her hand began to play a gentle piano piece as it rang. She looked at the caller ID, bit her lip, and still answered: "Hello, Yao..."

"What’s wrong? Why aren’t you asleep so late?" Beitang Yao’s soft voice traveled through the line into Xia Qingqian’s ears, making her breath catch. "I’m sorry, Yao, did I wake you?"

"I’m sorry! I didn’t follow the rules and still sent you a text!" She still remembered that before Beitang Yao left, he had told her she couldn’t call or text him.

Now she had broken his rule.

"It’s fine. You’re calling me so late—did something happen?" In fact, Beitang Yao had been thinking about her too, but because of what he’d said before leaving, he forced himself not to call her.

If he wanted to know how she was doing, he could only find out from Ye Feng.

So now he was working at a pace of two days’ work in one, all so he could come back to see her sooner!

"Are you doing okay in the castle? Has anyone been giving you trouble?" Beitang Yao remembered what Ye Feng had told him that evening—that Madam Rong had gone to Xia Qingqian and said some nasty things.

Was that why she couldn’t sleep?

That Madam Rong, right? Once he got back, she’d be in for it! How could she not see that Xia Qingqian was his, Beitang Yao’s, woman?

"Yao, I’m fine. Today I had afternoon tea with Huan and Grandpa. The desserts were really good. When you come back, I’ll make them for you!" As Xia Qingqian spoke, she subconsciously shook her head and said.

"Okay." Beitang Yao nodded. Hearing her say that, his heart still ached for her.

She really hadn’t told him a single word of grievance.

"Am I bothering you? Yao, it’s already so late at night. You’re still not sleeping? Is your work really stressful?" Xia Qingqian fired off several questions in one breath.

Listening to her, Beitang Yao couldn’t help but chuckle, then shook his head and said, "I’m working right now. I’m not sleepy yet. If you’re tired, go rest early. I might be back in a couple of days."
