Hellbound With You Chapter 4 The one
Previously on Hellbound With You...
The recent events began replaying vividly in her mind, leaving her stunned at her own actions. Had she truly committed such a daring deed? It felt utterly impossible. Reflecting now, she couldn't grasp where her boldness came from to draw near him, let alone surrender herself to a stranger so enigmatic and perilous. Was desperation truly that intense for her?
Abigail knew her deed was utter folly, but... deep within, no regrets stirred, and his shocking rejection only spurred her on. She believed he was indeed the one she'd sought—a ruthless man unmoved by any woman. Unclear why, but she trusted his claim of shunning love forever. Perhaps the raw honesty in his gaze convinced her. Somehow, she sensed his heart was frozen eternally, never to thaw.
Could she ever fall for a man like him? she pondered. Might she love someone so chillingly cold he could terrify her fragile heart into fleeing? Answers eluded her, yet like Eve, she craved the forbidden fruit despite the pain it promised. After all, didn't proverbs claim 'love builds up' and 'love is blind'?
By now, caution seemed pointless, she decided. No sense in retreating, with death approaching fast—for her dream to manifest, she must act immediately. Deep down, she knew this was her final shot.
…
Arriving home, she found her family in the living room, absorbed in their favorite TV show.
They enjoyed another warm, tranquil dinner before Abigail retreated to her room.
Fresh from her shower, she settled into bed. That man dominated her thoughts all night, even during her bath. Curiously, she couldn't halt them. His rejection? Doubtful. More likely his mesmerizing looks? Quite possible.
Every detail of his face etched clearly in her memory made Abigail question his reality. She picked up the note from the courteous man in the black jacket and gazed at it for ages.
Lying there, her eyes at last fluttered shut. Sunlight soon flooded her windows, waking her.
She rose, followed her daily routine: tidied her bed, aided her grandmother with breakfast, ate together, prepared for work, kissed her family farewell, then drove to the city.
Post-college graduation, Abigail volunteered at Morning Sun orphanage, co-founded by her family—a part-time role since high school. She mainly supported teachers in class. Weekdays barring Fridays, she read stories to the kids, adoring her duties. The children had become like family; she cherished helping them while she could.
Monday brought excitement from kids missing her for three days. They hugged her one by one in the hallway upon seeing her.
"Miss Abi! We missed you." Little Betty, the youngest, kissed her on the cheek.
"I missed you too, darling. Now, let's get inside. Your teacher is coming."
Abigail helped Mrs. Jang, the children's teacher, throughout the day. She shared "The Little Prince" story this time, then headed to the nearby coffee shop after class.
Last night, she'd texted friend Kelly about needing to chat, so they set a meet at their college-favorite spot—this shop.
"How are you? You were pretty drunk last night." Abigail eyed Kelly with a raised brow.
"Do I look that bad?"
"Yep."
"Don't lie, Abi. I made sure that my eye bags are perfectly covered!" Kelly huffed, prompting Abigail's chuckle. Her pal Kelly Yang was ridiculously wealthy. She never quite understood how two from such vastly different worlds became best friends.
Back in college, countless people envied Kelly. She was stunningly beautiful, immensely wealthy, and swarmed by admirers. Yet, she remained isolated at school. Only guys aiming to flirt dared come close, while women shunned her like a deadly plague. Once Abigail started chatting with her and their friendship deepened, classmates began labeling her as Kelly's maid. She couldn't fault their view. Next to the chic and elegant Kelly, she truly resembled a servant. But Abigail didn't mind at all. She recognized Kelly's kind heart and cherished her as a true friend, no matter the rumors.
During those times, Kelly always flared up in fury whenever anyone ridiculed Abigail. She persistently tried to glam her up—goodness knows how often she pleaded—but Abigail rejected her repeatedly until Kelly finally relented.
"So? What's the plan? I'm super curious, you know? Summoning me like this is soooo unusual." Kelly took a sip of her drink while eyeing her friend with squinted eyes.
A deep sigh escaped Abigail as she pressed her lips together firmly before meeting her friend's gaze.
"I have found a man." Abigail announced, causing Kelly to choke. "Easy there, Kelly!"
"Cough, cough… what?! Y-you? You found a man? You?!" Kelly's face showed pure shock, as if she'd heard the most outrageous thing ever.
"Calm down. Keep your voice down."
"Oh my god, Abi, how can I stay calm?! You… my sweet innocent Abi has finally found a man you like?!"
"Well, I can't say yet if I like him but... he's the man I've been searching for and… he's the one I want."
