The narrator recounts a past romance that began with a chance meeting and blossomed over a month of shared moments and growing affection. The relationship continued even after the man left, with his family approving of the narrator. However, things turned bleak when he suddenly began to ignore and harshly speak to her. He then married someone else a month later, leaving the narrator heartbroken and confused, suspecting he resented her and perhaps played with her feelings. Determined to move on, she vows to forget everything until he one day says, "I love you."

Tick! Tick!

It was the distinct sound of a watch ticking.

Opening her eyes felt incredibly difficult, yet she knew she had to try. After several attempts, Hua Lan finally succeeded in opening her eyes.

“Mmm, it’s too bright.”

It took some time for her vision to adjust. She gazed up at the ceiling, finding it utterly unfamiliar. Her gaze then swept across the room. It was a spacious room, adorned in shades of pink and exuding an air of extreme luxury—money was practically shouting from every corner. Everything was profoundly unfamiliar. To her left, a door stood ajar, allowing sunlight to stream in.

The room itself was quite pretty, like something out of a princess's chamber!

Her eyes began to sparkle with delight.

So engrossed was she in her surroundings that she failed to notice a nurse slumped in a chair nearby, her head resting on the table as she slept soundly.

Hua Lan found herself on the bed, her entire body feeling stiff, as if she had been asleep for a very long time.

She attempted to twist her body slightly. As she tried to get out of bed, she nearly tumbled over.

With a jolt, she managed to grab the bedframe and sat there. Standing proved to be a significant challenge. She paused for a moment, then attempted to stand firmly several times, but each attempt ended in failure. Her lower body lacked any discernible strength, and her legs would tremble violently whenever she tried to rise. Taking several deep breaths, she tried once more, and then again. On the fourth attempt, she managed to stand, though she still needed to hold onto something for support. Bracing herself against the wall for balance, she slowly made her way towards the balcony.

“Oh, what a large balcony!”

She exclaimed inwardly, her heart filled with joy. She clapped her hands together in happiness and then surveyed the beautiful scenery. Despite the unfamiliarity of the place, the environment felt incredibly peaceful.

The sky was a clear azure, the sun shone brightly, and wisps of white clouds drifted lazily across the expanse. Below the balcony lay a charming vegetable garden, its vibrant greenery instantly soothing her heart. A gentle breeze carried the sweet scent of flowers, though she couldn't immediately spot any, which she found rather strange!

Scanning her surroundings, she noticed several potted plants holding white flowers that emitted a mesmerizing fragrance.

In a corner, she spotted a wooden swing adorned with plush pillows. A sudden wave of happiness washed over her. She approached it and sat down. The swing felt as soft as her bed, almost inviting her to lie down. She was immensely pleased.

Hua Lan wished to linger there a while longer, but her stomach growled, reminding her of her profound hunger. She slowly got up and re-entered the room. As she searched for food, her gaze fell upon the sleeping nurse. She steadily approached her.

Unsure of how to proceed, she stood there for a moment before deciding to speak.

“Ex-x-cu…”

She stopped, startled by her own voice. It sounded odd, almost inhuman! She cleared her throat loudly.

Perhaps it was the unusual sound of her voice that stirred the nurse, who then opened her eyes.

“Waahh!”

The nurse nearly tumbled off her chair in surprise upon seeing someone standing before her, someone she hadn't expected to be awake.

Startled by the nurse's sudden scream, Hua Lan flinched.

“Miss, you’re awake!”
