Redwood Hotel
My practice session concluded, and I proceeded to the bathroom. The bath occupied twenty minutes of my time.
Subsequently, I departed the hotel, prepared for the day. It was time to explore this new city.
The capital sprawled across a vast expanse; exploring its entirety in a single day was an impossibility. I wore a mask, maintaining a degree of anonymity.
Doubts lingered regarding the potential presence of Magic Lords. I found myself on the main thoroughfare, my attention immediately drawn to the aerial vehicles and the streams of pedestrians.
A significant number of flying vehicles traversed the sky. My gaze then shifted to the people below.
They were enjoying a morning stroll. I attempted to gauge their power levels. The wizards present possessed strengths around Level-7 and Level-8.
A diverse age range was evident – old, middle-aged, and young individuals mingled. Their power levels consistently surpassed Level-5, indicating a nurturing and abundant environment within the capital.
"A truly blessed locale," I mused internally.
It seemed plausible that children born here would possess a higher likelihood of developing potent magic power and exceptional talent. After observing the populace for several minutes,
my attention turned to the surrounding structures. Numerous restaurants dotted the cityscape. One, in particular, caught my eye with its appealing design, and I began to make my way towards it.
Meanwhile,
A few minutes prior,
A group comprising the scar-faced wizard, the lean-physique wizard, the brown-haired man, and two companions were situated in a restaurant adjacent to the Redwood Hotel.
This establishment was known as the Blue Sky. The scar-faced man and his associates had been in waiting since early morning.
"Do you believe he will emerge?" the lean-physique wizard inquired.
The scar-faced man lifted his head, responding, "We haven't laid eyes on him. I suspect he might have already departed."
Upon hearing this, the brown-haired man questioned, "We had agreed to abandon the pursuit. Why the change of heart?"
The scar-faced wizard explained, "I felt compelled to seize another opportunity. The city is under heightened security due to the upcoming tournament."
"We might not find another target easily. Therefore, it's prudent we continue our search for the masked individual today," he added.
The lean-physique wizard and the brown-haired man exchanged glances, choosing to place their trust in him.
The remaining two wizards acted as subordinates, generally deferring to the decisions of the leading trio.
Suddenly, one of the supporters identified the masked man. He possessed short black hair and distinct eyes. Initial disbelief gave way to careful observation.
He confirmed the identity of the masked individual as their intended target.
"He has arrived," he vocalized, gesturing towards the hotel's exit.
"Hmm," the scar-faced wizard murmured. All eyes followed his direction, spotting the masked figure outside the hotel.
A spark of excitement ignited in everyone's eyes.
"He is here. My intuition was correct," the scar-faced wizard declared.
The lean-physique wizard and the brown-haired man offered smiles, a sense of relief washing over them. Their gamble had paid off.
Magic Lords were typically affluent. Staying at the Redwood Hotel necessitated a considerable level of wealth. This confirmed their suspicions.
They could now proceed with their objective. They remained motionless, silently observing.
They watched as the masked man proceeded along the street. There was no doubt in their minds; it was the same person. The distinctive white mask was unmistakable. They perceived no discernible aura from him, much like the previous day.
Not even a faint trace of mana emanated from his body, mirroring yesterday's observation. Such control was truly exceptional.
Without it, free movement in public would be impossible, as any leakage of power would cause chaos.
Then, they witnessed the masked man enter a restaurant directly across from their location.
Observing this, a collective sigh of relief escaped them. This would afford them valuable time to formulate a strategy.
"The masked man mentioned having associates near Raymond Mansion. Should we follow him?" the lean-physique wizard inquired.
He glanced around as he spoke. Few people were in their immediate vicinity. The name 'Raymond' carried significant weight, and individuals rarely invoked it casually unless they were fans or otherwise connected.
"We should avoid approaching the mansion directly. However, a walk along the footpath is feasible. With the tournament underway, the area will be more bustling than usual."
"We won't be the only Magic Lords visible on the streets," added the brown-haired man.
They had already encountered numerous individuals of similar standing. Normally, such a concentration of Magic Lords in public spaces was uncommon.
However, the tournament had drawn considerable attention, ensuring that they would not stand out.
"You speak the truth. Let us shadow him then," the scar-faced wizard conceded.
The lean-physique wizard concurred, and the other two raised no objections.
On my end, I reached a private room on the second floor and ordered coffee. I remained hesitant to deploy the Zero Puppet.
I had already detected potent auras, and releasing the Zero Puppet would undoubtedly expose its presence. Shaking my head, I awaited the arrival of the staff.
The attendant, a middle-aged man, noticed the masked individual. He immediately surmised that an outsider had arrived to observe the tournament.
Setting his cup down, he retrieved a device and inquired, "Esteemed guest, are you interested in obtaining the most current information?"
Upon hearing this, my eyebrows lifted. Initially, I suspected the man intended to swindle me.
The attendant clarified, "This is official intelligence, compiled within this establishment and offered for sale by our shop."
Understanding bloomed in my mind. So, they were spying on their patrons to gather intelligence. I had nearly unleashed the Zero Puppet without a second thought.
There must be a sorcerer present within the shop, possessing a peculiar magical ability. I considered myself fortunate for not prematurely deploying the Zero Puppet.
Suppressing my inner turmoil, I turned my attention back to the attendant and inquired about the price. It was clear this information came at a cost.
"10 mid-grade mana stones," the attendant stated with a smile.
Hearing the price, I appraised the attendant. The cost seemed steep, though I was uncertain if the intel would prove its worth.
The attendant added, "This intelligence encompasses details on all the major powers within the nation."
