Pebble City
I maintained a poker face, but seizing this chance to reach the Capital City was crucial. I was confident this group of wizards wouldn’t make a move anytime soon. If any complications arose, I could simply confine the Magic Lord within the system space.
"What are your thoughts?" the stout man inquired.
"I have no objections. My goal is to arrive at the capital before the tournament commences," I responded.
The stout man's eyes gleamed with understanding; his suspicion about the masked individual proved correct.
"Then, allow us to make introductions." The stout man gestured towards his companions.
I followed, a smile gracing my lips. Little did this circle of friends know their underlying agenda had been revealed.
The five companions ceased their conversation and turned their attention to me. All of them appeared to be middle-aged. They began speaking in a cordial manner.
They introduced themselves, and I offered my fabricated name. However, I divulged no personal history, keeping my background concealed.
The five friends didn't press for more details. They were unwilling to jeopardize their intended target by alienating them at this late stage.
"Alright. It is time to set off," the stout man announced. He would not be accompanying them.
He had other commitments, although the airship was his property. They selected one of the smaller vessels.
It was a sleek, black craft. They boarded the airship, the interior proving sufficiently roomy for the six of them. Ten compact cabins were available within the vessel.
I stepped inside, the stout man following last. Turning to him, I broached the subject of payment. He understood that passage was not complimentary.
"You need not pay. You are our honored guest," a gentleman with brown hair stated.
Upon hearing this, I offered him a smile but was still resolved to settle the fee. The stout man then declared the cost: five hundred mid-grade mana stones.
I presented the pouch of mana stones to the stout man, who accepted it. He then proceeded to make several calls. The pilot and a few crew members soon arrived.
They boarded the airship, and we exchanged pleasantries. Subsequently, the pilot commenced operations. I chose the rearmost cabin and entered.
The five friends exchanged glances, their plan to act at the opportune moment solidified.
They decided against immediate action, opting to wait until they reached the capital. Their associates could then apprehend the target.
Not long after, the small airship ascended from the ground. It gained considerable altitude before charting a course toward the capital.
The Magic Lords within their cabins admired the external scenery. The weather was pleasant; Verdantwood Country was renowned for its lush landscapes. For the moment, they had forgotten their quarry.
Meanwhile, I, too, was observing the view. From this vantage point, I could survey the city comprehensively.
My gaze settled upon the numerous gardens adorning the cityscape, meticulously arranged along the various streets. The sight was truly beautiful.
Now that I was aboard the airship, I realized that Pebble City, in its entirety, resembled a vast, verdant garden. A radiant smile spread across my face.
Like any other city, this one had a diverse populace, but I had no desire to prolong the journey unnecessarily.
Swoosh!
I calmed my inner turmoil and materialized within the Gregor Mansion. The zero puppet remained in its deactivated state. I then retired to bed without delay.
Time marched onward. The black airship navigated the skies with practiced ease, the pilot skillfully evading turbulent storm clouds and formidable tornadoes that posed a threat.
Nevertheless, the pilot exerted maximum effort to ensure the craft's safety.
As time elapsed, a torrential downpour commenced.
Thunderclap!
The heavens were obscured by immense, dark clouds. Streaks of lightning flashed intermittently, accompanied by the resounding boom of thunder.
Boom!
A potent bolt of lightning struck, appearing alarmingly close to the small airship. Every soul within the cabins felt the sheer force of the strike. This was no ordinary lightning; it pulsed with the energy of mana.
Should such a powerful lightning bolt make direct contact with the airship, its destruction would be instantaneous. The pilot redoubled his efforts to navigate through the tempest.
At a certain juncture, he sought assistance from the Magic Lords. One by one, they emerged from their respective cabins.
The five friends exchanged significant looks. They recognized the severity of the external conditions and the need for intervention. This development did not surprise them; they were accustomed to such predicaments.
One of the friends disembarked from the small airship. He was a man in his forties, possessing a slender build. With a single, fluid motion, he appeared directly above the airship.
Witnessing this, the pilot halted his maneuvers. He let out a breath of relief, confident that the arcane master would now handle the hazardous storm clouds.
Boom!
The lean man’s gaze swept the swirling clouds. As the thunder roared and potent lightning flashed, he sensed the raw power emanating from the electrical discharges.
He understood the tangible threat the lightning posed to the airship's structural integrity.
Boom!
The very next instant, the lean man unleashed a spell. Potent green mana surged from his outstretched right hand. Simultaneously, a magnificent green magic circle materialized directly above his head.
Boom!
A formidable wind tornado erupted from the magic circle, soaring to a height exceeding fifty feet before colliding with the looming black clouds.
Boom!
In the ensuing second, a mighty explosion rent the air. The sheer force of the wind tornado propelled the dark formations away, banishing them entirely from the sky.
However, the wind's power was not yet spent; it continued its relentless push, scattering the remnants of the dark clouds. In a mere blink of an eye, the heavens were restored to their pristine clarity.
A broad grin stretched across the face of the man, his physique lean and sharp. Witnessing the dissipation of the oppressive clouds, he turned and offered a nod of acknowledgment to the pilot.
He then made his way back to the compact airship, prompting a visible sigh of relief from the pilot. He trusted that the Magic Lords would effectively handle the situation.
The five companions, their chatter renewed, soon noticed that their intended target had yet to emerge from the confines of the cabin.
