Matthew is shocked to discover the captain's identity, but the captain attacks him before he can reveal anything. Gabriel intervenes and questions Matthew, realizing the captain is using a dangerous power. As the captain's mark glows and his power surges, Gabriel decides to face him directly, telling Sophie and Edgar to handle the rest. Below them, a hidden goblin army emerges from a newly opened passage.

BOOM!

As the crimson greatsword collided with the black longsword, the entire old altar shook violently as though two enormous beasts had slammed into it at the same time. The stone slabs, already shattered by the previous fighting, collapsed further as Gabriel’s red battle aura collided with the captain’s white divinity, sending a shockwave across the ground and tearing away the vines that had only just begun to regrow.

Two black robed captives lying nearest the clash were thrown aside with the broken stones. Their restraints held, and the roots beneath them quickly dragged them away from the collapsing slabs.

This time, Gabriel was the one who retreated.

He glanced down at his slightly numb right hand before raising his head again. Instead of becoming more serious, his expression showed a trace of genuine interest.

The captain had become stronger.

And not by a little.

He was still Hero rank, just as Gabriel already knew, but the white mark was forcing his output past the Champion threshold, allowing him to endure Crimson Judgement head on even while Gabriel’s Blood Rush remained active.

It was not a true advancement. It was divinity driving a body beyond what it could safely withstand, and the body was losing.

The unmasked man gave him no time to observe further. White light flashed beneath his feet as he lunged forward, and the black blade appeared beside Gabriel’s left flank in the next instant.

CLANG!

Gabriel raised his sword to block. The second strike came from another angle, followed by the third and fourth. Each strike came faster than the last.

The black longsword left dense afterimages through the air as white divinity scraped against Crimson Judgement’s glowing engravings. Every collision sent another impact through the ruined altar, and the captain had almost completely abandoned defense, directing every attack toward Gabriel’s head, heart, neck, and every other fatal point.

He was trying to finish this before his own body failed.

But Gabriel did not retreat either. He turned his wrists, caught the black blade against his greatsword, and forced it aside.

CLANG!

An opening appeared in the captain’s chest.

Gabriel’s left fist shot forward.

BANG!

His fist slammed heavily into the man’s chest, making the protective white light tremble.

The captain grunted, but instead of retreating, he used the shortened distance to drive his knee toward Gabriel’s abdomen.

However his opponent also raised his leg at that critical moment.

BANG!

Their knees collided and both bodies shook.l vigorously. Then, almost simultaneously, they swung their swords again.

BOOM!

This time, neither of them retreated.

Gabriel’s red battle aura flared against the captain’s white divinity as more cracks spread through the ground. Scattered stones trembled beneath the pressure, while the white mark on the captain’s temple spread toward his left eye, turning his originally gray pupil a faint, glowing white.

Gabriel saw this. He also saw the blood vessels around that eye beginning to burst one after another.

The divinity was growing more violent, and the body carrying it was coming apart.

"How much longer can you hold out?" Gabriel asked with a mocking smile.

The captain’s gaze remained cold. "Long enough to kill you."

"A lot of people have said that."

Gabriel suddenly released one hand from his sword.

The captain’s pupil contracted.

In the next instant, Gabriel kept Crimson Judgement pressed down with his right hand while his left shot through the opening between their weapons and seized the man’s shoulder.

"But they all died in the end."

Bull Rush!

With the last of his active red battle aura still burning around him, Gabriel drove forward with his entire body.

The captain was forcibly carried backward as both of them crashed into the already broken stone wall behind the altar.

BOOM!

Large chunks of stone collapsed, causing debris to fly into the air.

The captain’s back slammed heavily into a broken pillar, and the protective divinity around him flickered violently.

Gabriel raised his fist.

BANG!

The first punch struck his face causing the captain’s head to snapped sideways.

Before the second punch could land, however, the black sword in his hand thrust upward from below.

Gabriel swiftly released him and pulled back.

SHNK!

The blade grazed his abdomen. His armor split open, revealing a long, narrow wound beneath it.

The captain grinned at the sight. He leaned against the broken pillar, his breathing noticeably heavy for the first time. Blood ran from the burst vessels around his glowing left eye, while the white divinity surrounding him shuddered unevenly.

After a quick glanced down at his wound, Gabriel looked back at his opponent as if nothing had happened.

"Continue."

As the word left his mouth, the red battle aura thinned and vanished.

The ten second window was over. Blood Exhaustion settled over him, dragging at his limbs. He had already paid twenty percent of his health when he activated Blood Rush. Now, for sixty seconds, neither it nor any other high output burst skill would be available to him.

The power that had carried him through their head on exchange was gone.

The captain noticed this, and his grip tightened around his sword, although blood continued to trickle down his cheek.

’Madman!’

He was completely certain of it now.

Gabriel had seen the white mark tearing its bearer apart, yet he had still chosen to meet that divinity head on, driving him through a wall before his own enhancement expired.

And now, with the red aura gone and blood seeping through his damaged armor, he was still asking him to continue.

The white divinity on the captain had not disappeared. It was just that the cost was becoming more and more obvious. The white mark on his left temple had already spread to near his eye. His originally gray left eye was almost completely covered by white light, and blood continuously streamed from the corner. Several blood vessels had even completely ruptured. Yet his aura still remained beyond that of a normal Hero rank.

If they continued clashing head on, Gabriel would actually be at a disadvantage now.
