Gabriel and Sophie were warned away from the Sacred Forest by unseen archers. Despite attempts to block their path and direct warnings, Gabriel stepped across the boundary. This triggered a barrage of arrows, but Gabriel used his skills to evade them, grabbing Sophie and launching them into the air. He then used Bull Rush to intercept one of the attackers, catching her by the wrist.

The figure was a young woman who appeared to be around twenty years old.

She had a slender figure and wore light green armor. Her pale golden hair was simply tied behind her head.

And between the strands of hair, two ears that were clearly longer and sharper than a human’s were plainly visible.

An elf!

Gabriel narrowed his eyes slightly.

As expected, it was almost exactly as he had guessed.

The young female elf reacted just as quickly.

The instant Gabriel seized her wrist, her other hand released the bowstring. She drew a short blade from her waist and thrust it directly toward his throat.

Gabriel merely tilted his head, causing the blade to pass beside his face. His hand tightened slightly.

Crack!

The arm holding the short blade instantly lost its strength. Yet no fear appeared on the female elf’s face.

There was only coldness mixed with intense hostility.

"Let go of me!"

Gabriel did not answer. Nor did he kill her outright.

After seeing the woman up close, he had become even more certain.

From beginning to end, none of these people had truly wanted to kill Sophie.

Just as he was about to speak, the female elf’s hostile gaze suddenly passed over his shoulder.

It landed on Sophie. Then something shocking happened. Her entire body visibly froze!

Her eyes, which had been filled with killing intent only moments ago, suddenly contracted.

She stared fixedly at Sophie as she felt a myriad of emotions swirl through her. There was shock and confusion. Then disbelief gradually took their place.

"You..."

She even temporarily forgot that Gabriel still had her restrained.

"A human... How could a human possibly carry their aura..." she spoke in a trembling voice. The language she had spoken was not English, and even Sophie struggled to understand it.

Sophie looked at her blankly before looking at Gabriel.

"What did she say?"

Gabriel did not answer immediately.

A subtle change had already appeared in his eyes.

He understood her. It was an extremely ancient language.

In his previous life, once the game world reached its later stages, human players had encountered several languages that existed only within ancient ruins and the inheritances of primordial races.

Gabriel could not speak the language fluently.

But he was familiar with its simpler words.

’Their aura... I’m sure that’s what she meant.’

He glanced at Sophie. But before he could question her, a dense rustling suddenly spread throughout the forest.

From the depths of the forest, the others who had been hidden throughout the area no longer concealed themselves.

Gabriel tried to keep count of them, but he soon lost count as more and more figures appeared between the ancient trees.

They were above the canopies, some behind the trunks, while a large number of them were on the ground.

And surprisingly, some were even inside natural tree hollows whose internal structures could not be seen clearly.

They were everywhere!

What was even more unsettling was that Gabriel had not sensed most of them beforehand.

With his current perception, approaching him unnoticed from such a short distance was already difficult. Yet dozens of these elves had been positioned less than fifty meters away without revealing even the slightest trace of their presence.

Some had even been hiding directly above them.

Gabriel’s eyes narrowed.

These were clearly not ordinary forest inhabitants.

This entire area had probably been under their surveillance from the moment he and Sophie crossed the boundary. Infact It could also have some territorial defence skill that made it hard for outsidedto find them.

Elves armed with longbows had already nocked arrows onto their string.

As of this moment, every arrowhead was aimed at Gabriel.

Although, they did not fire yet, the killing intent in the air was already countless times stronger than before.

Sophie’s expression immediately became grave.

Gabriel continued holding the young female elf’s wrist. Despite being faced with such overwhelming numbers, he did not panic.

His gaze slowly swept across the surroundings.

There were at least several hundred.

And some of their auras were clearly far stronger than those of the ordinary patrol members.

As the two sides remained locked in a standoff, footsteps suddenly came from ahead.

Tap.

Tap.

The expressions of all the elves changed simultaneously.

The crowd voluntarily parted to both sides.

A woman who appeared visibly older than the other elves slowly walked forward.

She had long hair that was almost silver white. Instead of the light armor worn by ordinary patrol members, she wore an extremely simple dark green robe. A special emblem carved from ancient wood rested on her shoulder.

In her hand was an ancient wooden bow nearly two meters long.

But from the moment she appeared, she did not look at Gabriel even once.

Her gaze remained fixed on Sophie from beginning to end.

The surrounding elves were clearly waiting for her command.

Several seconds passed.

The older female elf slowly spoke.

"Lower your weapons."

Many of the younger elves nearby immediately looked stunned.

"Elder?"

"But they crossed the boundary, and he captured Erin!"

"I said..." The older female elf continued staring at Sophie. "Lower your weapons."

The surroundings instantly fell silent.

Although the elves holding their bowstrings fully drawn clearly did not understand, they still slowly lowered their longbows.

Gabriel glanced at the young elf he was holding. Then he released her. It was the right thing to do, after all, the other side had clearly made their intentions known. They did not want any conflict.

She immediately leapt more than ten meters backward and landed on another branch. Erin, the elven girl, looked at Gabriel with a look of displeasure on her face. It was as if she wanted nothing more than to put another arrow through him.

The older female elf walked toward Sophie one step at a time.

As the distance between them narrowed, the calmness on her face finally began to disappear.

She seemed to be confirming something.

Sophie could sense that the woman held no hostility toward her, so she did not retreat.

The two simply stared at one another.

A long time passed before the older elf’s gaze slowly moved away from Sophie’s eyes, passing over her hair, her skin, and her hands.

Finally, it returned to her face. A trace of obvious complexity appeared on the face that had remained composed until now.

She remained silent for a long time. Then she finally asked a question Sophie had never expected.

"Human girl, your mother... Who is she?"
