Gabriel accepted the lead pointing to the Valerian Kingdom royal family for the Soul Key and headed to the bustling capital, Stellar City. In his White Phantom mask, he drew fearful glances from players wary of his past massacre, while XMan rejected pleas from his former teammates to join them. They checked into a luxury hotel, where Gabriel tasked XMan with researching the royals and hidden sites before sensing a sudden wave of killing intent in his room.

As soon as the killing intent surged, Gabriel's body responded faster than his thoughts. Muscles tensed up, skin crawled with chills, and all his instincts blared warnings of peril.

Shock and intrigue filled Gabriel, for it had been ages since he last sensed such intense killing intent.

Normally, his Undead Heart skill would keep him utterly composed, yet he couldn't shake the puzzle of how this foe had sneaked so near without detection.

Even more alarming, a gut feeling warned that staying put could mean instant death, ending his tale abruptly.

"Burrow Shift!" Gabriel whispered softly.

Just as Gabriel dove into the earth, a sword thrust through the spot his head occupied moments before. The sharp edge shattered the glass barrier, sending the whole window bursting inside with shards scattering everywhere.

After the strike, a frustrated voice rang out in the deceptively still hotel room. "Tsk tsk, that was close."

The tone carried no rage, just irritation, like they anticipated the dodge—which made sense, given their thorough scouting and awareness that he wasn't an easy mark.

That strike had only been a probe.

Crunch!

Glass crunched underfoot as a towering silhouette advanced. Shadows hid their eyes, and their build obscured whether they were man or woman.

"Hm, where did he go?" the silhouette uttered, making no effort to hide their aura—a daring act revealing immense self-assurance.

All at once, the silhouette froze and spun around. There stood Gabriel, White Phantom mask in place, looking utterly serene.

"There you are," the silhouette laughed lightly.

Gabriel held back for now, just watching closely. No player tag or health bar appeared. Sure, players could toggle those off, but this one's vibe felt off entirely.

This wasn't a player—Gabriel would bet on it. Plus, he'd monitored every player via the rankings, and none there posed a real threat to him right now.

Eliminating those possibilities left just one: an NPC. But which one?

"Are you going to attack me, or will you just watch?" the silhouette grinned playfully.

"Of course. I was just observing my visitor," Gabriel answered, advancing with glass crunching beneath his boots.

"Who are you?" he demanded. Spotting a pause, he pressed, "Or would you prefer I beat the answer out of you?"

Gabriel's tone dripped with over-the-top arrogance, utterly convinced, sparking a sly grin on the silhouette's hidden features.

"Hehehe, the info was right. You are truly cocky," the silhouette snickered, fully facing him now. "I hope you keep your words."

With those words out, the silhouette shot ahead like a raging storm, warping the air. The shockwave lifted glass bits, hovering them mid-air.

Simultaneously, Gabriel summoned his pair of Gold ranked Dragonfang swords, their edges shimmering faintly, eager for battle.

Clang! Bang!

Swords collided dead center in the room. A massive boom erupted at contact, unleashing a shockwave that demolished leftover glass and hurled objects aside.

The assassin staggered back several paces, visibly stunned despite the concealed face. They shook their arm repeatedly, fighting the numbness from the clash.

Gabriel remained rooted, easing his sword down gradually.

"If I had distributed all my stats," he stated coolly, "you wouldn’t have an arm left."

The assassin stayed silent at first. Gone was their prior bravado; stance shifted to tense. No more casual poise—their form crouched low, sword grip firming. Wordlessly, they retreated then lunged anew.

Yet this assault differed.

The instant they lunged, their form divided.

One turned to two.

Two multiplied to four.

Four grew into eight.

Within a blink, scores of assassins swarmed the space, syncing in motion, wielding blades, radiating identical might and aura.

They swarmed Gabriel from every angle.

Gabriel stayed cool-headed, not budging right away. One sword parried a left-side strike, then he twisted to boot a clone aside. A sword slashed from rear; he ducked low, letting it whistle past before slicing the clone apart.

Though restraining power and abilities, the onslaught from countless clones forced him inching back. Boots scraped the floor amid endless parries and ripostes, the air alive with steel rings and vanishing forms.

Yet replacements surged endlessly.

"Interesting," Gabriel murmured.

A clone struck head-on as flankers hit both sides. Gabriel retreated a step, then exploded ahead, blades whirling to fell three clones at once. As they faded, four fresh ones barreled in fearlessly.

Clone by clone fell to Gabriel's strikes, but his self-imposed limits let them gradually herd him room-wide.

Endless assassin duplicates pressed relentlessly, aiming to bury him under sheer volume.

Abruptly, Gabriel halted, hoisted both swords silently, and triggered their latent skill.
