Shane examined a Demon General's Soul Fragment, which contained the fallen general's power, memories, and instincts. After confirming with Cloud that the risk of possession was low, Shane absorbed the fragment, gaining the powerful Force Cleave skill and experiencing fragmented battle memories. He resolved to absorb the remaining fragments to learn more about the demons.

"Let’s see what else you have."

Shane crushed another one, and the same violent energy immediately erupted from the fragment and surged into his body.

This time, however, Shane was already prepared.

He allowed the fragmented memories to flow through his consciousness while carefully filtering through them.

There were countless scenes.

The Demon General’s memories were filled with battles, slaughter, and the endless darkness of the Abyss. Shane caught glimpses of strange territories that he had never seen before, powerful Demons whose names he didn’t recognize, and massive structures that appeared to have been constructed deep within the Abyss.

Unfortunately, most of the memories were useless.

Shane simply ignored them.

He wasn’t interested in witnessing every battle the Demon had fought throughout its existence.

He was looking for something valuable.

Then, he confirmed that he had absorbed everything...

Ding!

[ You have successfully absorbed a Demon General’s Soul Fragment. ]

[ You have obtained a portion of the target’s memories. ]

[ You have acquired the Skill: Abyssal Resistance. ]

Shane’s smile widened as he saw the passive skill.

The Skill was definitely useful.

He didn’t even bother checking its description as he was aware of what it could do.

Now, he simply couldn’t wait to absorb all the remaining Fragments!

One after another, Shane crushed the remaining fragments.

The process quickly became repetitive.

The violent energy would surge into his body, the fragmented memories would flash through his mind, and Shane would calmly filter through them before receiving the System’s notification.

He now learned more about how the Demon Army functions and what they would normally do if they weren’t attacking human settlements.

Well, it was actually quite boring in his opinion. They had no entertainment and would only want to get stronger as if they were beasts who only act on instinct...

Some fragments contained almost nothing useful.

Of course, with so many of these Fragments, it wasn’t that surprising that the others contained knowledge about Demon territories, battle techniques, or strange creatures that existed within the Abyss.

Still, several of them provided Skills.

[ You have acquired the Skill: Demonic Blood Manipulation. ]

[ You have acquired the Skill: Abyssal Detection. ]

[ You have acquired the Skill: Demonhide Defense. ]

[ You have acquired the Skill: Infernal Roar. ]

[ You have acquired the Skill: Dark Cloud Step. ]

Shane’s eyes brightened as he looked at the skills he had obtained.

Although none of the Skills were that unique and powerful, they were still valuable additions to his arsenal.

Abyssal Detection could allow him to sense traces of Abyssal energy from a considerable distance, while Demonhide Defense strengthened his body against physical attacks.

Dark Cloud Step was even more interesting.

It was a movement Skill that allowed the user to temporarily merge with abyssal energy and rapidly reposition themselves over short distances.

Shane immediately recognized its potential.

He didn’t need to learn every Skill he obtained, but since he had plenty of Fusion Crystals anyway, he might as well take them all and fuse a better skill.

Even the Demonic Blood Manipulation was learned for that purpose.

After absorbing the final fragment, Shane finally opened his Skill interface and reviewed everything he had obtained.

He had gained several new abilities, but the most interesting one remained Force Cleave.

It was the only Skill that seemed capable of directly bypassing certain forms of defense.

More importantly, it was a Skill that had been created from the combat instincts of a Demon General.

Shane couldn’t help but wonder what kind of enemy the Demon General had originally fought to develop such an ability.

Unfortunately, the memories he had received were too fragmented to give him a clear answer.

"Well, I guess I’ll find out eventually."

Shane closed his Skill interface.

There was no point in wasting time trying to piece together memories that were already incomplete.

He still had a more important matter to deal with... The mysterious facility beneath Floating Eden Island.

He had already spent enough time examining his rewards, so it was time to leave.

Shane had no idea what was waiting beyond those enormous doors.

For all he knew, the facility might contain nothing more than an abandoned research center.

Or it could hold something that had been waiting for thousands of years for the right moment to awaken.

Either way, Shane intended to find out for himself.

Soon, he turned toward the portal leading to the Mist Shelter.

"Alright... Let’s go see what the Anima Civilization left behind."

***

The moment Shane stepped through the portal, the scenery before him changed.

He immediately found himself inside the Mist Shelter.

However, before he could even take a step forward, Shane noticed that something was different.

He looked up and confirmed that the sky was no longer where it should have been.

Although he had already heard Tundra’s description through the Clan Chat, seeing the shelter and the entire island with his own eyes was an entirely different experience.

"So this is the floating island... It’s several times larger than the floating fortress... Amazing."

"Boss!"

A familiar voice suddenly came from nearby.

Shane turned around and saw Max approaching...

He was followed by several members of the Eclipse Revenant Clan who had apparently arrived ahead of the others.

Shane’s eyes immediately settled on Max... then he paused.

"This... What happened to you?"

Max blinked... "Huh?"

Shane slowly looked him over.

At first glance, Max still appeared to be the same person. He had the same face, the same confident expression, and the same energetic personality.

However, Shane’s perception was far better than that of an ordinary Survivor.

He immediately noticed the subtle differences.

The left side of Max’s neck had a thin metallic line running beneath his skin.

His right arm also moved with a precision that was slightly too perfect to be entirely natural.

Even his eyes seemed different.

There was a faint mechanical glow hidden deep within his pupils that disappeared whenever he blinked.

Shane’s gaze eventually settled on Max’s left hand...

"You... You’re half machine now? When did this happen?"
