Shane successfully recruits two dragons, Hunter and Winter, who join his fleet. Shortly after, their ships are attacked by a swarm of Murlock Zombies. The crew, along with the dragons, fights them off, but Shane warns that more threats await as they approach Eden Island. Upon sighting the island, Shane hopes it holds answers and that Sofia, the first zombie virus immune patient, is still alive there.

Upon sighting the island, docking was not an immediate action.

The Providence and Excellence reduced speed as they drew nearer to the landmass.

Hunter and Winter maintained a circling pattern overhead, seemingly surveying the island.

As the ships maneuvered around the island's perimeter, the crew eventually noticed a dockyard protruding from the coastline. Though weathered and broken, its construction confirmed its prior use before the apocalypse.

Under Shane’s direction, the two vessels glided into the dockyard, ropes secured and anchors deployed.

Thud...

The timbers creaked under the strain but held firm. Merely peering from the deck revealed shattered crates, corroded tools, and aged planks strewn across the pier.

Shane issued an order: "Not all personnel will disembark."

The crew swiftly grasped the implication.

The Providence and Excellence required an adequate guard. Even with Dragons attached, they wouldn't suffice as protection.

Mystra, the leader of the Elves, stepped forward...

"I will safeguard this location," she declared.

Despite their elven nature, she appeared disinclined towards the island's atmosphere and opted to remain at the dockyard with the other elves.

She promptly began organizing those designated to stay behind.

Under her command, the defenders initiated the fortification of the docked ships, positioning cannons outward, erecting barricades, and stationing sharpshooters along the railings.

A defensive perimeter was rapidly established, ensuring that any approach from the sea or the forest would not catch the ships off guard.

Shane then deliberated before finally assembling the exploration team.

He would personally lead the group, accompanied by Chaloem, Shinja, Layla, Tundra, Lysandra, Lily, Elsa, Travis’ Clone, and Natalie. Each member possessed considerable capability, their skills honed through countless engagements, leaving him with no concerns about their ability to manage any predicament.

They were more than capable of defending themselves.

Together, they disembarked from the dock and set foot on the island.

Shane cast a final glance back at the ships he had left behind...

Preparations for their defenses were still underway, and soon, they commenced deploying traps to counter potential ambushes.

Even the Warden Units were dispersed for immediate deployment if necessity arose...

Observing the Dragons in the sky above, Shane felt a degree of reassurance about leaving the team.

"Let's move... Maintain alertness. We remain unaware of what lies within..." Shane stated, guiding the selected team down the dock.

Their footsteps echoed dully on the damp planks before sinking into the sand as they stepped onto the island. The air hung heavy with the scent of salt and a subtle hint of foliage, yet, curiously, no birdsong broke the stillness, nor did any insects chirp.

The profound silence felt oppressive, an unsettling omen.

"Do not hesitate; utilize all your Detection Skills to identify anything suspicious or gather pertinent information..." Shane commanded.

"I am attempting... However... There is nothing," Natalie murmured.

"We should proceed onward for the time being. If a hidden laboratory exists here, it would likely be concealed with considerable effort or similar."

They advanced with caution, weapons at the ready, their senses keenly attuned.

Before long, the dockyard gave way to a path reclaimed by clinging vines and thick moss.

Shattered barrels lay scattered, and collapsed walls offered glimpses of structures that had once stood proudly.

However, no bodies, no skeletal remains, not even the vestiges of zombies were found.

"This is peculiar," Shane mused. "Perhaps this place was deserted prior to the virus outbreak?"

No one could definitively answer this query.

For the moment, the group pushed further inland.

They discovered the foundations of stone structures, roof fragments, and tarnished lanterns.

A fractured well stood at the heart of what appeared to have been a modest settlement.

The water within was stagnant and undoubtedly unfit for consumption. Nevertheless, it was as if the inhabitants of this place had simply evaporated.

They pressed their search deeper inland, anticipating the discovery of either survivors or teeming zombie hordes.

Instead, only an enveloping silence met their efforts.

No creature moved within the dense undergrowth. No echoes resounded save for their own footsteps.

The ruins extended onward, desolate and eerily still.

The overwhelming silence began to weigh on them, and before long, one of the group voiced their thoughts.

Thud!

Tundra grunted, delivering a kick to a rusted lantern. "This is tedious. I anticipated hordes of zombies, not... empty ruins."

Layla offered a faint smirk. "You would prefer being swarmed? I find boredom preferable to scrubbing blood from my boots yet again."

Shinja’s hand rested upon the hilt of Stormblade as he scanned the edge of the treeline. "Do not be deceived by the quiet. Places like this... they are traps poised to spring."

Natalie concurred with this sentiment...

"Still, it is unsettling. No wildlife, no undead, no other living souls. It feels as though the island itself rejects our presence."

Lysandra crouched near a broken wall, brushing moss from the stone. "Or perhaps an obliteration occurred. Observe these foundations... they were not casualties of conflict. The inhabitants departed... or were compelled to."

Chaloem, the monk, finally broke his silence... "Absence can present a greater peril than presence. Emptiness breeds distrust. Maintain your inner equilibrium."

At this juncture, Lily directed her gaze upward...

"Mmm-hmm... The atmospheric currents feel peculiar as well. They are in motion, yet convey no sound. No avian calls, only the rustling of foliage. It's conceivable this is not the island we seek."

Shane absorbed their observations and offered a nod.

"Your assessments are accurate. This deviates from the natural order. Continue employing your Detection Skills. Should any hidden entities reside here, we shall unearth them. If none are present, we shall vacate this locale forthwith."

Tundra grumbled under his breath, "If there's truly nothing, I shall obliterate these ruins myself just to generate some disturbance."

Layla directed a stern glance his way. "Refrain from such notions. Our mission is investigation, not aesthetic refurbishment with craters."

Natalie let out a soft chuckle as she regarded Tundra.

Thus, the contingent dispersed, undertaking a meticulous examination of the surroundings. Certain overturned crates exposed tools long since corroded, while others housed remnants of fabric utterly consumed by the ravages of time.

Subsequently, they discovered a dilapidated watchtower precariously leaning against the treeline, its wooden structure rendered brittle and splintered.

Shane knelt beside a fractured pillar, clearing away verdant moss to unveil faint inscriptions.

The glyphs were ancient, predating the cataclysm.

Whoever had established residence here possessed culture, societal structure, and a distinct objective...

This was undeniably once part of a substantial settlement.

But where had they vanished to?

The pervasive silence gnawed at their resolve. Each stride revealed further remnants of decay, yet offered no evidence of combat, nor any deceased.

The group persevered, arriving at what appeared to be the vestiges of a marketplace.

Stone merchant stalls lay in disarray, scattered implements reduced to rust and embedded in the earth...

A toppled signpost was also present, half-submerged in the soil, its lettering effaced by the relentless march of time.

"Nothing," Shane declared softly. "No hostile creatures. No survivors. No fauna. Merely ruins."

The companions exchanged apprehensive glances.

Shane's brow furrowed...

"We will advance a short distance further inland. If we continue to find nothing, we shall retreat to the vessels. I do not wish for us to be overly dispersed."

The team acknowledged his directive with nods as they moved forward.

Concurrently, as Shane's contingent ventured deeper into the derelict zone, the profound silence persisted...

Their footfalls produced faint echoes against the broken masonry, yet no other sound disturbed the stillness.

However, concealed from their perception, a diminutive figure was crouched within the arboreal shadows.

It possessed a humanoid form, standing no taller than a child, with leathery wings retracted tightly against its back and small horns emerging from its brow.

Its eyes emitted a subtle gleam in the subdued luminescence as it silently observed the encroaching humans.

The entity remained motionless, its breathing imperceptible, utterly undetected.

As Shane and his team advanced, an increasing number of these figures began to materialize.

One by one, they emerged from behind crumbling walls, from the boughs overhead, and from fissures within the ground itself...

Crack... Crack... Crack...

Their appendages twitched, sharp talons became visible, yet they produced no audible sound beyond the displacement of soil and vegetation.

Initially, only a mere handful kept watch. Then, dozens. In short order, the umbra teemed with hundreds...

The humans were under surveillance from all vantage points, entirely unaware of the peril.

The creatures lurked with unwavering patience...

They were waiting, consolidating, and encircling.

Ultimately, Shane's group reached the opposite periphery of the woodland.

The ruins receded, giving way to an open space, and beyond it lay the island's core... this was the dominion these entities governed.

Natalie decelerated her pace... "Wait... do you perceive that?"

Layla's gaze sharpened. "Something is present. Observing us."

Shane raised his hand, signaling a halt to the group. His Aura Suppression technique projected outward, and instead of subduing adversaries, it exposed their presence.

Emerging from the obscurity, a multitude of luminous eyes flickered into existence.

Then, the team beheld them.

Small, winged humanoids, adorned with horns and possessing jagged teeth, stepped into the visible spectrum.

Their sheer numbers were overwhelming! It wasn't a mere handful, but hundreds. They had been concealed all along, silently encompassing the humans as they ventured deeper into the forest.

"Imps..." Shane uttered, a note of disbelief in his voice.

The group echoed his pronouncement...

"Imps? Hold on... Those are demonic entities..."

Tundra swore under his breath. "Blast it all... we've stumbled directly into their lair."

The imps emitted a synchronized hiss...

Soon, the forest appeared to constrict, as every conceivable exit was obstructed by their swarming forms!

"Regrettably, escape is no longer feasible... We are encircled." Shane's expression darkened.

They had finally become cognizant of the enemy's proximity, but by that moment, they were already ensnared!

However, it was precisely at this critical juncture that Natalie sensed her opportune moment had arrived!
