“I was only five years old back then, and without a teacher, I had to rely solely on my own diligence to study medicine.” Yun Chutian playfully stuck out her tongue and added, “However, I’ve already mastered the correct answers to those few questions. Didn’t I consult you about them recently?”
Hearing this, Yun Luofeng nodded with a look of satisfaction. “In that case, we shall keep this book as a memento.”
The dialogue between the two made it crystal clear who the legitimate owner of the medical text was.
Ouyang Xun’s face turned deathly pale. He whipped his head around, glaring at Ouyang Yue with suppressed rage. “What is the meaning of this? You claimed your master gave you this book and that she was Yun Luofeng? You better explain yourself this instant!”
Trembling with terror, Ouyang Yue collapsed to her knees on the ground. “Father, your daughter realizes her errors. I beg for your forgiveness.”
“Forgive you? How can I possibly grant you forgiveness?” Ouyang Xun squeezed his eyes shut in agony. Had it not been for Ouyang Yue’s deception, he never would have labeled Yun Chutian a monster or attempted to execute her at the stake.
More importantly, he wouldn't have squandered the opportunity to curry favor with two genuine gods.
Indeed, that final thought revealed Ouyang Xun’s true motivations.
To rule as an Emperor, one had to be cold-blooded; he didn't truly care for his daughter’s well-being. His only concern was his own self-interest.
“Chutian,” Ouyang Xun said, shifting his gaze back to Yun Chutian, his voice now noticeably softer. “Your father was mistaken in the past. Now that you have come home, I will treat you with the kindness you deserve.”
Yun Chutian responded with a look of pure contempt. “I still remember vividly how you tried to burn me alive. If Mother hadn't rescued me, I would be nothing but ash. Furthermore, Tianhuang City has always been filled with rumors that Ouyang Yue is a goddess while I am a misfortune-bringing witch. I suspect those rumors were orchestrated by your people, weren't they?”
Ouyang Xun’s complexion grew even more sallow. He squeezed his fists tight, consumed by an endless tide of regret.
“Goddess? Witch?” Yun Luofeng let out a faint smirk. “Rumors are supposed to stop at the wise, but it appears everyone in Tianhuang City is a fool. Since that is the case, there is no reason for this place to remain! However, one thing is true: there is indeed a goddess in Tianhuang City. But that person is Chutian!”
She began to walk slowly toward Ouyang Xun. “If you had shown Yun Chutian kindness during those five years, Tianhuang City would have prospered alongside her. But you are the ones who threw that chance away.”
Ouyang Xun looked up, and meeting Yun Luofeng’s indifferent gaze, his eyes were clouded with remorse.
“Do you understand why I took Chutian away?” Yun Luofeng’s lips curved into a chilling smile. “In her previous life, she was my daughter, and she gave her life to protect me. I searched for her for five years before locating her in Tianhuang City, yet I never imagined... that you would treat my child this way.”
Ouyang Xun closed his eyes. The weight of his regret was heavy. Had he known that Yun Chutian and Yun Luofeng shared such a bond, he would never have made such a catastrophic blunder.
But in this world, there is no medicine for regret...
“Nianfeng,” Yun Luofeng said, turning her attention to Yun Nianfeng. “Chutian is your future wife, and it is your duty to shield her. Do not show mercy to a single soul who harmed her in the past. Even if you must reduce all of Tianhuang City to ashes, you must make these fools pay the price!”
She shuddered to think that if she had arrived just a moment later, she might have lost Yun Chutian once again. How could she ever pardon those who had caused her daughter pain? Even those who had simply gathered to watch the execution would not be spared!
Just as she had once stained an entire city red with blood to protect her mother’s honor, she would do so again. Since words could not stop the rumors, she didn't mind using the most ruthless methods to silence them!
