Getting spoiled in a woman dominating world Chapter 637: A little argument

~6 minute read · 1,524 words

Sunlight filtered softly through the windows, casting a warm glow across the living room.

Ravene and Elize sat side by side on the long couch, each holding a cup of tea.

Elize took a slow sip before speaking “You barely slept last night, didn’t you?”

Ravene let out a small breath, staring into her cup.

“I kept going over the readings again. Even when I closed my eyes, I could still see the numbers.”

Elize glanced at her with a mild, knowing look “You’re pushing yourself too hard.”

“I don’t really have a choice,” Ravene replied. “With… something like this.”

Before Elize could respond, the soft sound of footsteps approached from the hallway.

Rheanne entered the living room.

The moment her eyes landed on Ravene, her expression sharpened, and she walked straight over and sat down beside her, turning her body slightly so she was facing her fully.

“Ravene.”

Both women looked at her.

“The tests you ran on Kael. What did you find?”

Ravene slowly set her cup down on the table while Elize remained silent, watching the two of them.

Ravene met Rheanne’s gaze and answered “I finished the latest round last night. His adaptive cells are still functioning… but the rate of deterioration is higher than I initially estimated.”

Rheanne’s fingers tightened slightly in her lap.

“How bad?”

“It’s not critical yet,” Ravene replied.

“But it’s progressive. His body keeps repairing itself, which is the only reason he’s still stable. The problem is that the repairs are incomplete.””

“Something at the core level is breaking down faster than his regeneration can fully compensate for.”

Elize’s expression grew more serious.

Rheanne was quiet for a moment, absorbing the words “…Is there any direction for a treatment?”

Ravene exhaled slowly “I’m still working on it. His body doesn’t respond to normal ether-based healing the way it should.”

“Whatever Marzella did to him… it made him unique, but it also left something unstable inside the foundation of his vessel.”

Rheanne lowered her gaze slightly, “I see.”

Rubbing her temple, Ravene muttered “Maybe we just need Marzella to wake up and get a cure for this.”

Upon hearing this, Rheanne’s gaze quivered ‘…Marzella.’

At that moment, footsteps sounded on the stairs.

Brandon came down, still looking half-awake with slightly messy hair.

He paused at the bottom when he saw the three of them on the couch and his eyes settled on Rheanne.

She glanced away almost immediately.

Ravene looked toward him but said nothing. Elize, however, noticed the shift in his expression right away.

She set her cup down, stood up, and walked over to him without hesitation.

Her arms slipped around his waist as she pulled him into a warm hug, pressing her body lightly against his.

Then she leaned up and kissed him as she whispered against his mouth “Do you want some tea?”

Brandon’s hands rested on her waist and his eyes drifted past her toward Rheanne again.

“…I do,” he answered quietly. “But before that, I need to talk with Rheanne.”

Elize pulled back just enough to look at his face, then gave a small nod and stepped aside, though her hand briefly brushed his arm before she fully let go.

Brandon walked over and stopped in front of the couch.

Rheanne looked up with a soft smile on her lips “Good morning, Kael.”

With a soft breath, he spoke “Come with me for a moment.”

The garden was quiet except for the soft rustle of leaves.

Brandon and Rheanne sat side by side on the wooden bench, feeling the morning air brush against their skin.

Rheanne was leaning into him with her head resting against his shoulder while his arm settled around her.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Then Brandon reached up and pinched her cheek, tugging it lightly.

“How many times did I tell you not to say anything to them right away?”

Rheanne only looked up at him from where she rested against him with an unapolgetic expression.

Brandon continued,”I just came back. They’re already dealing with enough. Florence, Ravene, Elize… Charlotte too. Everyone’s still adjusting.”

“I didn’t want this hanging over them on top of everything else. There was no need to push it onto them so quickly.”

Rheanne was quiet for a few seconds.

Then she shifted slightly, “I know what you told me. And I understand why you said it.”

Her voice softened, “I’ve been carrying this for years, Kael. Knowing something was wrong and not being able to stop it. Do you know how long it felt, waiting while your body kept wearing down little by little?”

She reached up and gently took the hand that pinched her cheek, “We’re finally at a point where there might actually be a way forward. Ravene is here.”

“She understands your body better than almost anyone. I couldn’t just sit on it any longer and pretend it wasn’t urgent.”

Brandon looked down at her, and Rheanne met his eyes without flinching.

“I didn’t tell them to burden them. I told them because waiting any further felt wrong. I’ve already waited long enough.”

A soft sigh escaped his lips “You should have waited for me.”

Rheanne lifted her head from his shoulder just enough to look at him “And keep watching it get worse while I stay silent?”

“That isn’t what I said.”

“It’s what it sounds like,” she replied. “You wanted me to hold it in a little longer. I’ve already done that for years.”

Brandon turned his gaze forward, toward the garden path.

“There’s a difference between telling them and dumping it on them the moment I come back. You didn’t even give me the chance to be the one to say it.”

Rheanne’s fingers tightened slightly around his hand “Would you have said it?”

He stayed silent for a moment.

“…Eventually.”

“That’s the problem,” she said. “Eventually. You always choose the slower path when it comes to yourself. You protect everyone else first and leave your own condition for last.”

Brandon let out a quiet breath “They’re not ready to carry something like this all at once.”

“And I was? I carried it alone while you were still in that era. I kept quiet because you asked me to. But this isn’t just your burden anymore, Kael. The moment we came back to this time, it became ours too.”

He looked at her again “…That doesn’t mean you get to decide the timing for everyone.”

“And you don’t get to decide that I should keep swallowing it,” she answered without hesitation.

“When there’s finally someone who might be able to help.”

The two of them fell into a short silence, still sitting close on the bench as their words pushed against each other.

Brandon’s jaw tightened slightl “You should have trusted me to handle it, Rhea.”

Rheanne’s reply came just as quickly “I do trust you. That’s why I stayed quiet for so long. But trusting you doesn’t mean I’ll watch you keep deteriorating in silence.”

A brief silence settled between them.

Rheanne’s earlier firmness had not disappeared, yet something beneath it began to fracture.

Her fingers, which had been holding his hand, slowly loosened.

When she finally spoke again, her voice was quieter “…You make it sound so simple.”

Brandon glanced down at her and sighed softly “…I’m not trying to, dear.”

“I know.” Rheanne’s gaze stayed lowered.

“That’s what makes it harder. You’re not even angry in the way that would make this easier to push against. You’re just… trying to manage everything again.”

“I kept telling myself I could wait a little longer. And that after everything you already went through, the least I could do was not add more weight the moment you returned.”

“But every time I looked at you, I kept thinking about how much time might already be slipping away.”

Her voice trembled “I’ve already watched years pass while knowing your body is decaying. I don’t want to keep doing that.”

Brandon’s arm shifted slightly around her shoulders.

Tears moistened Rheanne’s eyes, blurring her vision.

She tried to keep her expression steady, yet the first tear slipped down before she could stop it.

She turned her face a little more into his shoulder, as if that could hide it.

“I hate that the only thing I can do is talk about it while your body keeps breaking down.”

Her shoulders trembled lightly before she pressed herself closer against him.

Brandon remained silent for a moment, feeling the dampness of her tears against his shirt, before his hand moved slowly up and rested against the back of her head.

He exhaled and pulled her against his chest, resting his chin lightly on top of her head.

Rheanne didn’t resist, and she stayed there, still crying quietly, her fingers gripping the fabric of his shirt.
