Getting spoiled in a woman dominating world Chapter 546: The Guilt of Fate
Previously on Getting spoiled in a woman dominating world...
Amelia rubbed her sleepy eyes, while Freya walked beside her with concern on her face.
They both stopped at the entrance of the living area.
Rheanne, the usually graceful and composed Goddess... was a complete mess.
She was shaking, crying uncontrollably, and clinging to Brandon.
Amelia’s eyes widened. She opened her mouth to speak, but Freya gently placed a hand on her shoulder and shook her head.
Freya gave Brandon one long, understanding look.
She knew this moment is something deeply important.
With a soft nod, she quietly pulled Amelia back into the bedroom, closing the door gently behind them.
Brandon continued holding her, patiently waiting until her breathing calmed just enough for her to speak.
After several long minutes, Rheanne finally pulled back slightly, though her hands still clutched his shirt tightly.
Her beautiful sky-blue eyes were swollen and red, tears still streaming down her cheeks.
"Kael... I... I had another vision."
Brandon gently wiped the tears from her cheeks with his thumbs.
"I’m listening."
Rheanne took a shaky breath,"I woke up in... an endless darkness. And then... there was this gigantic blue eye."
"It spoke to me. It said... the faith of the people has reached its threshold. That in four days, I will ascend to godhood. I will shed my mortal body... and leave this world behind."
HUH? Brandon’s eyes widened in surprise upon hearing this.
’That means my plan finally worked.’
Her voice broke completely on the last words.
"I will no longer be able to stay here... with you... with Selene... with Freya and Amelia. I will become something else. A true Goddess. But I won’t be able to hold any of you again."
Rheanne’s hands tightened desperately on his shirt as she looked up at him with fear in her eyes.
"I don’t want to go, Kael... I don’t want to leave you. I finally found a place where I belong. With all of you. Please... I don’t want to ascend. I want to stay here... as your Rheanne."
"Kael... Kael... please! PLEASE! I WANT TO STAY WITH YOU!"
She pressed her shoulder against his chest, sobbing quietly once more.
"I’m scared... I am so scared, Kael."
Brandon’s heart twisted painfully in his chest as he held her.
The strong, graceful woman who had once stood beside him was now trembling like a leaf in his arms, terrified of a fate she never asked for.
His gaze trembled.
’Ah...’
A sharp pang of guilt filled his heart and his vision blurred as the weight of his own actions crashed down on him.
’I was the one who forced this Goddess position on her...’
He was so obsessed with making the timeline "right," with ensuring Rheanne would ascend and become the guiding force the world needed... that he had never considered her emotions.
Brandon’s arms tightened around her in sorrow as his eyes burned with tears "I-I am sorry..."
’I am so sorry, Rheanne. But this is my fate and your fate... You are supposed to be a God. No one can change that.’
’...This is how it’s supposed to be. The future is already written. That’s how this bootstrap paradox works.’
Rheanne shook her head weakly, still clinging to him.
"I don’t care about godhood... I just want to stay with you."
"I-I don’t want to be a God."
Hugging her tightly, Brandon patted her back, knowing very well there is no way out of this.
She let out another quiet sob and pressed herself against him again, seeking comfort in his warmth.
---
After several long minutes, Brandon gently guided Rheanne toward the couch.
He sat down first, pulling her with him so she could settle onto his lap.
Rheanne didn’t resist and curled into him immediately.
Her sobbing has finally quieted into soft, occasional sniffles.
The room was quiet except for the faint sound of their breathing and the distant night wind outside the balcony doors.
Rheanne let out a shaky breath and muttered in a hoarse voice "...There is no way out of this, is there?"
Brandon’s hand paused mid-stroke on her hair and he closed his eyes for a moment.
"The vision you described... that eye... that’s the world consciousness itself. Once it has decided, once the faith of millions has reached that threshold... ascension becomes inevitable."
Rheanne’s fingers tightened on his shirt "I never asked for any of this," she whispered.
"I never wanted to be a Goddess. I just wanted to fight alongside you. To protect people. To live... with you."
Brandon eyes quivered in guilt "I know."
"I’m sorry. I pushed you toward godhood because I thought it was necessary."
He gently tilted her chin up so he could look into her tear-reddened eyes.
"You were happy. And I... I took that away from you without realizing how cruel it was."
Rheanne shook her head slowly and pressed her forehead against his, looking into his eyes.
"Don’t blame yourself entirely," she whispered. "I allowed it. I followed your lead because I trusted you. Because I... I love you."
She let out another trembling breath.
"But Kael... four days. That’s all I have left as me. As the Rheanne who can hold your hand. After that... I don’t even know what I’ll become."
Brandon pulled her closer, wrapping both arms around her.
"We still have four days. W-We’ll spend every moment together. You, me, Selene, Freya, Amelia... all of us. And if there’s even the smallest chance to keep you here... I will do anything."
Rheanne gave a weak smile and nuzzled deeper into his neck.
"...Even if there isn’t, promise me you’ll remember me."
Brandon’s arms tightened around her "I will never forget you, Rheanne. Not in a thousand years. Not in ten thousand."
Rheanne remained curled up on Brandon’s lap and her breathing finally stabilized.
After a long silence, she slowly pulled back just enough to look at him.
Her eyes were swollen and red, but she forced a small smile onto her lips.
"...Kael."
She gently cupped his face with both hands, brushing her thumbs across his cheeks as if memorizing every detail of him.
"If I only have four days left as I am now... then I don’t want to waste them worrying or crying. I want to spend every single moment with you. Just you and me."
Her forced smile wavered for a second, but she held it.
"No grand plans. I just want to be with you... like we used to be. Traveling together, talking until sunrise, holding each other."
"Please, Kael... Can we do that? Just the two of us... for a little while?"
Brandon’s eyes trembled and he he also forced a smile, nodding his head "...Yes. Sure. We’ll do that. Just you and me."
Rheanne let out a soft breath and hugged him back, her fingers threading gently through his hair.
"For these four days... I want to be selfish. I want you all to myself."
Brandon nodded, keeping the smile on his face "You’re allowed to be selfish. Wherever you want to go, whatever you want to do... I’ll be right there with you."
They stayed like that for a long time, holding each other in silence, knowing that time was now their cruelest enemy.
Rheanne eventually pulled back "Then... can we start tonight?" she asked softly.
"I don’t want to sleep alone. I want to fall asleep in your arms... and wake up next to you like we used to."
Brandon quickly nodded "Of course."
He stood up, lifting her effortlessly in his arms. Rheanne wrapped her legs around his waist and rested her head on his shoulder as he carried her toward one of the bedroom.
As they stepped inside the room, Brandon took a deep breath and sighed inwardly.
For the next four days, he would give Rheanne everything she wanted.
Everything she deserved.
Even if it breaks his heart in the end.
