Bandits ambushed Brandon and Freya by the lake, intending to capture them. Brandon swiftly and brutally killed the entire group, revealing his hidden strength. Through brutal interrogation of the sole survivor, he learned the attack was ordered by someone from the Nacirfa Kingdom.

Brandon and Freya sought out a secluded and untouched area by the lake. A gentle, grassy incline sloped down towards the water, with a stand of willow trees providing shade, their long branches swaying gracefully in the mild breeze. Brandon lay on his back amidst the grass, propping his head with one arm folded behind it. Freya was nestled close to him, pressing her body firmly against his side. Her head rested upon his chest, and a leg lay carelessly draped over his own. She lifted her head slightly, gazing up at him with tender, half-closed green eyes. Without a word, she moved closer and placed a kiss upon his lips. Her soft lips moved gently against his, cherishing the warmth and flavor of him. As she briefly pulled back, she planted another soft kiss on the corner of his mouth, then his cheek, and then traced it along his jawline. "Mmm..." she hummed with satisfaction, nudging her nose against his neck before bestowing a kiss there as well. She shifted her position upwards, pressing her soft breasts against his chest as she recaptured his lips. With a soft sigh, she buried her face in the hollow of his neck, planting repeated soft, affectionate kisses on the skin there, her lips slowly traveling up to his jaw and returning to his mouth. "I like this," she whispered between kisses. "Just lying here with you..." Brandon’s arm tightened around her, drawing her fully atop him until she was perched on his waist. Freya let out a contented hum, settling into a comfortable position as her dress shifted upwards along her thighs. "You’re surprisingly sweet when you’re not attempting to seduce me," Brandon teased, his hand resting on her hip. Freya giggled softly, "I can be both." She settled back down, snuggling closer and nuzzling her face against his neck. For a few quiet moments, they remained in comfortable silence. The gentle lapping of the lake water against the shore accompanied the soft rustling of the willow branches overhead. Suddenly, Freya’s head shot up as a thought occurred to her, "Oh, Kael... my brother is aware of your relationship with Amelia." Huh? Brandon looked at her, surprise evident in his expression. Freya chuckled softly, tracing a finger along his collarbone as she continued. "He knows you’ve been sending Amelia letters and how infatuated she is with you. And... I even subtly hinted at it to him myself, discussing your relationship about a year ago." "He remains hesitant about it..." Huh? Brandon tilted his head slightly. "But I heard he's been searching for a groom for Amelia." Freya let out a light laugh and playfully pinched his nose between her fingers. "That was a rumor I started. You remember Amelia’s maid? I was the one who instructed her to tell you that." Her expression softened into sincerity as she met his gaze. "Since I didn't observe any genuine progress in your relationship with her, I wished to ascertain if you held true feelings for her. Please forgive me." Brandon exhaled deeply, gazing at the sky for a moment. "So, I was manipulated, wasn't I." Freya’s eyes widened in alarm. She quickly sat up a little, leaning over him with a worried frown, her hands waving in emphasis. "Wait, wait, wait – it's not like that!" she quickly explained. "I wasn't attempting to manipulate or ensnare you. I simply... I witnessed Amelia's joy whenever she received your letters. She would reread them repeatedly with a dreamy expression. I had never seen her like that before." She bit her lip, her concern now palpable. "I know my brother. He is exceptionally protective of Amelia, particularly after the loss of my sister-in-law. He would never permit just anyone near her. Thus, I sought to gauge the situation first and ascertain if you genuinely cared for her or if you were merely being kind." "The rumor about finding a groom was my method of subtly pressuring you. And sending the maid... that was my impatience." Freya leaned in closer, her eyes earnest as she looked at him. "I apologize if it felt as though I was toying with you. My sole intention was to ensure my niece would not suffer heartbreak. She has already become quite smitten with you, Kael. If you were merely playing with her emotions, I... I would have intervened." "But observing how you treat her... how you took her out and made her smile, I am relieved I acted as I did. Because you truly do care for her." Freya watched his face anxiously. "Are you angry with me?" Brandon remained silent for a moment before responding, "There is another underlying scheme within this plot, isn't there?" Huh? Freya averted her gaze quickly, her cheeks flushing deeper as she tried to avoid his stare. "N-No, what do you mean..." But Brandon continued to look at her steadily, a smile playing on his lips. The silence stretched between them until Freya finally emitted a long, defeated sigh. She buried her face in the crook of his neck, concealing her embarrassed expression against his warm skin. "It-It's embarrassing..."

She inhaled deeply, "A woman named Freya also read these letters... and gradually started anticipating his correspondence. She observed the genuine delight in her niece’s eyes each time a new one arrived. She watched as Amelia smiled foolishly, rereading them repeatedly."

Freya’s fingers tightened on his shirt as she continued, "She still recalls the night she spent with this man, Kael. And slowly... she began to fall for him too."

"That was when she remembered the promise Amelia had made for her years ago. So Freya thought... if she helped arrange Kael and Amelia and supported their affection, she could utilize that old promise as leverage to pursue a relationship with him as well."

Freya remained nestled in his embrace, her head bowed, unwilling to look up.

Her ears and the back of her neck were a vivid red, flushed with shame. "I realize it sounds self-centered and manipulative... but I didn't want to forfeit the opportunity."

"I didn't want to merely observe from the sidelines while my niece had you. So I... expedited things."

"I initiated the rumor about seeking a groom. I dispatched the maid to gauge your sentiments. I even made a strong advance towards you this morning..."

A shaky exhale escaped her lips. "I apologize, Kael. I genuinely desired to contribute to Amelia's happiness. But... I also wanted you for myself."

Freya stayed concealed against his chest, nervously awaiting his response.

Brandon gazed at the dusky orange-pink sky for a few moments, absorbing her confession.

Then, a gentle, low chuckle resonated from his chest. "You truly are one of a kind, Freya Bleaufort."

He delicately ran his fingers through her blonde hair, tilting her face upward so he could behold her blushing, mortified expression.

Brandon’s features softened.

He lowered his head and bestowed a tender kiss upon her forehead, then lightly upon the tip of her nose. "I'm not upset, merely a little taken aback. It's actually rather endearing how much effort you put into this."

Freya’s eyes widened slightly as a wave of relief washed over her heart. "Truly...?"

Brandon nodded, drawing her closer. "You could have simply informed me that you liked me too. There was no need for all that intricate scheming."

Freya emitted a small, embarrassed laugh. "I know... but I was apprehensive. What if your affections were solely for Amelia? I didn't wish to jeopardize what you two shared... yet I also didn't want to be left out."

She pressed a soft kiss to his neck. "So, I indulged in a bit of greed."

Brandon smiled and embraced her more tightly. "Greedy, hm? Well... I don't find that disagreeable."

Observing her bashful look, he grinned. "Besides, I got to witness this adorable side of you."

The lingering rays of the setting sun continued to adorn the sky with breathtaking colors as the two of them lay together upon the grassy ground.
