Amelia revealed the origin of a past promise she made to her aunt Freya, which involved sharing her husband. Brandon seemed unfazed and assured Amelia that their relationship would be decided by them, not by any old promise. Later, Brandon agreed to accompany Freya in a carriage, appearing to head towards a secluded location.

The carriage commenced its smooth journey, the wheels humming over the cobbled road that wound away from the castle's embrace.

Freya was seated intimately beside him, her thigh a gentle pressure against his own.

She rested her head upon his shoulder, her voice a soft query, "You seem tense."

Brandon turned his head slightly, beginning, "Miss Freya-"

But Freya’s hand rose, a single finger briefly silencing his words as it touched his lips.

"Just my name. No formalities, please."

Her fingertip traced the curve of his lower lip, a slow, deliberate caress.

"I believe we've moved beyond such things, don't you agree?"

"Freya."

A smile of pure satisfaction spread across her features. Her finger descended from his lips, instead drifting languidly along the line of his jaw.

"There. It wasn’t so difficult, was it?" She shifted nearer, her full bosom pressing more firmly against his arm as she inclined her head. "Say it again."

Brandon responded with a soft chuckle, a shake of his head.

*thud* A slight jolt from the carriage hitting an uneven patch of road nudged her body into an even closer, more intimate contact with his for a fleeting moment.

Freya made no move to withdraw. Instead, she seemed to leverage the jostle as an opportunity to nestle even closer, her hand now resting boldly upon his chest.

Brandon let out a slow breath, his arm resting casually on the seat's back just behind her.

She chuckled softly. "Tell me honestly, does my teasing bother you? My… forwardness?"

"Oh, if this is about Amelia, I assure you, I have no intention of trying to take you away from her."

"Amelia is cherished. If she desires you… then I wish for her to have you. Yet, I also seek a share of that joy for myself. Is that truly so wrong?"

He met her gaze directly, replying, "It is not wrong, merely… unusual."

Gently, he took her hand. "Freya, if you are compelling yourself to feel this way because of that promise… then please, you do not need to."

Freya's eyes widened slightly, her playful, alluring smile faltering for an instant. The surprise was evident.

"You believe I am forcing myself upon you?" she inquired softly, her gaze fixed on his face.

Brandon offered a slight nod, his thumb stroking the back of her hand. "I have witnessed the depth of your affection for Amelia, how fiercely you protect her."

"Should this merely be your attempt to honor a youthful vow she once made… I would not have you feel bound by any obligation. I certainly will not hold you to words spoken by a frightened girl of seventeen."

Freya remained quiet for a moment.

Then, a soft, almost self-deprecating laugh escaped her lips, and she leaned her forehead against his shoulder.

"You are truly unlike anyone else, Kael."

She lifted her head once more. "I would be dishonest if I claimed the promise played no part. Seeing Amelia return last night, so full of light… it conjured memories of that foolish pact we forged years ago. And yes, a part of me desired to playfully provoke her, to observe her reactions."

Freya's tone grew gentler. "However, that is not the sole reason for my presence. I am not forcing myself. I feel… a genuine curiosity. An interest. Even attraction."

She gave his hand a gentle squeeze. "You possess great strength and a kind heart. You treat Amelia with true regard, not as a mere political pawn to be married off."

"Furthermore, the letters you penned for her… though entirely unnecessary, they were remarkably thoughtful. How could such a man not capture my attention?"

She shifted slightly, turning more fully towards him, her chest brushing against his arm once more.

"I have spent a lifetime observing men pursuing power, status, or merely my physical form. You stand apart. I find myself genuinely drawn to this kind and noble Kael I encountered within the castle walls."

Freya leaned closer, placing a tender kiss upon his cheek. "So, no, Kael. My presence here is not solely due to a childish promise. I am here by my own volition. I wish to understand the man who has brought such happiness to my niece… and because I suspect I may be developing feelings for him too."

"Do not fret that I am acting out of obligation; I am here by my own choice… and I find myself quite fond of you."

She drew back just enough to meet his gaze. "However, if any of this makes you uneasy, just give the word. I shall restrain myself."

She added a playful wink. "Mostly."

Brandon simply sat, momentarily speechless, gazing into her eyes.

He could discern the sincerity underlying her teasing, the genuine warmth of her affection.

Releasing a soft sigh, she returned his hand squeeze. "I am not uncomfortable. Merely… attempting to navigate this delicate situation with care. Amelia is dear to me, and I would never wish to cause her pain."

Freya's expression softened further.

She rested her head back on his shoulder, this time with a more natural ease. "I understand. And I would never do anything to jeopardize her happiness. If this situation were to evolve into something more significant… we would address it with her together. She is a grown woman now, capable of making her own decisions."

The carriage continued its leisurely pace toward the tranquil lake, the two occupants settled in a surprisingly comfortable, shared silence.

Freya eventually broke the silence with a soft, teasing whisper, "So, does this mean I still have permission to seduce you a little?"

Brandon chuckled and wrapped his arm more securely around her shoulders.

"Just a little."

Freya’s smile widened with satisfaction as she snuggled closer, clearly pleased with the small victory.

The carriage continued its gentle journey along the winding road, the soft clop of the horses’ hooves and the occasional creak of the wheels creating a soothing rhythm.

She tilted her head up to look at him, "If we ever got married, will my name be Freya Kael? What is your family name? Or is your name just Kael?"

Brandon glanced down at her, momentarily surprised by the casual way she tossed out the idea of marriage, "My name is Brandon Kael."

Freya’s eyebrows rose slightly, "Brandon Kael, Freya Kael... It has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?"

He let out a quiet chuckle, "It does."

The carriage gradually slowed to a stop as the wheels rolled onto soft grass near the edge of a lake.

Freya glanced out the window with a satisfied smile, then leaned forward and knocked lightly on the front panel of the carriage.

"You may leave us here. Return at sunset to pick us up."

The driver’s voice came back respectfully, "As you wish, Lady Freya."

The carriage door opened. Freya stepped out first and extended her hand toward Brandon.

"Come, Kael."

Brandon took her hand and stepped down beside her. The driver gave a polite bow, then turned the carriage around and drove off, leaving them completely alone.

The moment the carriage disappeared down the path, Freya let out a soft, contented sigh.

She stretched her arms above her head, arching her back in a way that accentuated her full figure even more.

"Ah... finally. No eyes watching us. No servants. No nosy niece." She turned to him with a playful smile. "Just you and me for the next few hours."

The lake was stunning, surrounded by soft grass and wildflowers.

A large, flat rock sat near the water’s edge, perfect for sitting or lying down.

Freya walked a few steps ahead, then turned back to face him.

"I come here sometimes when I want to escape the castle. The perfect place to forget about royal duties for a while."

She stepped closer to him, "What would you like to do with these precious hours alone with me?"
