With a gesture from the captain, ten guards advanced first, creating a loose encirclement around Brandon using training swords and shields.
Freya wore a playful smirk on her lips, "Well, he surely won’t beat 100 guards... but let’s see how strong he is."
Brandon blurred into action.
The guard's fingers jerked uncontrollably, sending his training sword clattering from his grasp.
THUD! THUD!
"Ugh-"
The other seven surged ahead together, shields raised, seeking to overpower him through unified force.
The guard hunched over, wheezing in pain.
CLANG- THUD!
"Grahh-" The guard slammed onto his back with a heavy grunt.
Brandon spun, parried using his sword, and struck a swift kick to the guard's inner knee.
The surviving guards paused briefly, giving Brandon time to bridge the gap.
The final guard attempted a frantic downward chop.
THUD.
A heavy silence enveloped the training yard.
The captain's jaw slackened in shock.
Amelia froze in place, her mouth agape slightly.
He glanced at Freya. "Ten down. Should I keep going?"
He signaled the next batch. "All of you. Carefully this time."
Brandon refused to allow full encirclement.
He slipped beneath the initial sword arc as it swished idly above, then in one seamless twist, weaved past two guards through the tight breach in their shield line.
Brandon evaded at the critical second, clutched the shield's border with his left hand, and propelled himself upward using the guard's rush.
THUD! THUD!
The guards responded at once, striving to reform their ring.
Mid-leap, he seized the tumbling blade, whirled it deftly, and tapped the flat side against two more guards' armored shoulders—sufficient to knock them off balance without true harm.
"Watch your left-!"
The captain stared from nearby, mouth hanging open in astonishment.
In under four minutes, every one of the hundred guards sat or lay on the grass, gasping for air amid their dispersed weapons.
Brandon faced Freya with a slight smile. "So?"
Amelia approached him step by step. "I a-am... impressed. You are a lot stronger than you look."
Brandon nodded subtly. "Mhm."
Whispers raced through the group...
"He took all of us down without even breaking a sweat..."
Freya looped her arm with Amelia's, bestowing on Brandon one final mischievous grin. "You’ve certainly made an impression today. I look forward to seeing what else you can do."
Brandon lingered solo in the yard briefly, shaking his head in a wry grin.

Emperor Valerian Bleaufort lingered by a stone bench next to a trickling fountain. "What are you saying? Letting Amelia go with him?" he grumbled, eyeing his younger sister.
She nodded faintly. "Yeah... how long do you think you are going to keep her locked in this castle?"
As he claimed the seat across from her, Valerian's eyes dropped. "I lost my wife because I was careless, Freya. I can’t lose my daughter too."
Valerian and Freya spotted him instantly and stood up.
Brandon lifted a hand leisurely, with a calm smile. "Please sit down."
Brandon settled softly beside Freya on the bench. "I overheard part of your conversation. About Amelia wanting to see the city."
"But keeping her locked away forever... it might protect her body, but it will slowly break her spirit. She trains every morning not just to prove she’s strong, but because she wants to live."
Valerian remained quiet briefly before a profound sigh slipped out. "After what you showed my men today... I cannot deny your strength."
Freya smiled tenderly, lowering her teacup. "I will accompany them as well, brother. Just to be safe."
Witnessing this, Brandon inwardly smirked dryly. ’Why is he making a big deal out of this... it’s just visiting the city.’
’Maybe it’s a sensitive matter in this era.’
’It’s because of Rheanne that they trust me to this extent.’
His mind drifted back to Florence... pondering how she'd chuckle knowing her remote forebear was set for an evening outing with her eventual companion.
