Five years later, Ning Xi finds herself coping with a night of heavy drinking at the Eton bar, only to be confronted by her manager, Chang Li. Tensions rise as Chang Li forbids her from auditioning for a coveted role in "Land Under Heaven," insisting that Ning Xueluo, from the powerful Ning family, has secured it. A clash of wills ensues, leading to Chang Li resorting to force by shoving Ning Xi into a storeroom and locking her inside. Alone in the dim light, Ning Xi discovers a frightened little boy hiding among the boxes, deepening the mystery of his presence in the bar.

The little bun became so frightened by her that his little face turned completely white.

Yet, Ning Xi simply plopped down beside the little bun without making a move, closing her eyes right away and drifting off to sleep.

Chang Li had forced her to keep guests company with drinks all evening, leaving her with a pounding headache at the moment.

After some time, when Ning Xi awoke at last, she noticed a warm sensation against her leg. Glancing down, she discovered that the little bun had somehow curled up next to her thigh, his tiny fingers clutching the edge of her clothing.

A soft chuckle escaped Ning Xi's lips.

Back in her rural days, she once had a cat of her own. That feline was incredibly timid around humans, fleeing at the sight of anyone. But if you ignored it completely, it would relax its defenses, deciding you posed no danger. Then, it would quietly sidle up to you on its own, even hopping onto your lap for a nap.

The little bun appeared to sense her stare, a faint blush coloring his cheeks, though this time his gaze held no fear—only sparkling curiosity in those wide eyes.

He truly resembled a tiny kitten, right down to those matching eyes.

The corners of Ning Xi's mouth lifted in a smile, her fingers twitching with the urge to stroke him; she surrendered to the impulse and gently caressed that fluffy, endearing head.

At that contact, her expression shifted abruptly.

His forehead burned so fiercely!

“You’re having a fever?”

Chang Li planned to confine her here at least until the audition ended the next day.

Allowing the fever to rage that long could prove fatal for the child.

As worry mounted about the delay, Ning Xi realized something off. The bulb had burned out— so where was the light in the room coming from?

Lifting her gaze, she spotted a narrow skylight letting in faint illumination from above.

Ning Xi scanned the storage room and eventually dragged over a ladder.

“Little bun, come here, I’ll assist you in escaping!”

For the first time, the little one reacted to her voice, yet he firmly shook his head.

Ning Xi grasped his intent and grinned while lightly squeezing his cheeks, “You’re truly devoted, huh? Want to endure this hardship alongside me? Climb up— the opening’s too narrow for me to squeeze through. If you exit first, you can fetch help to rescue me.”

Noticing his continued reluctance, Ning Xi scooped him up and set him on the ladder, “Hurry now, act like a real man and don’t waver. I’ve got your back from down here!”

With great effort, she managed to boost the child through the window, but then a surge of vertigo hit Ning Xi. Her legs buckled beneath her, and she tumbled from the ladder in an instant……

Peering from the window's edge, the little bun witnessed the fall, and alarm surged across his once vacant and spiritless features.

Clinging to her fading strength, Ning Xi uttered a single word, “Go……”

Beneath the starry glow, the woman's complexion appeared ashen and delicate, yet it couldn't dim her breathtaking allure. Particularly those shimmering, vibrant eyes, reminiscent of an ocean brimming with infinite constellations.

She had transformed from the naive village girl and plain duckling of before.

But what good did that do now?

Ning Xi gave a wry smile; before she could exact her vengeance, she would perish in this forsaken spot…

Still, in her final moments, she had at least performed a kind act by rescuing the little bun.

Had her own child survived, he might have been this boy's age……

Following the car crash five years prior, the Ning family, overcome with disgrace, shipped her off to a U.S. institution for troubled offspring of the wealthy, abandoning her to survive alone.

She dropped out of that school and transferred to the University of Southern California, diving obsessively into every subject imaginable.

All to vanquish Ning Xueluo and reclaim what rightfully belonged to her!

Above all, performing stood as the grandest aspiration of her existence.

Upon her return to China, leveraging her striking looks and honed acting prowess, she caught Chang Li's eye and joined the top firm, Starlight Entertainment.

Her path ahead seemed destined for glory, until Ning Xueluo infiltrated Starlight too, corrupting Chang Li with bribes to block her every step……
