Kira fought a regenerating monster while Sian prepared a powerful attack. Just as the monster struck Sian, lightning intervened, then He Jinyun arrived. Together with Kira, they trapped the monster in energized sand, and He Jinyun delivered a final lightning strike, seemingly ending the battle. Sian collapsed from exhaustion.

Sian's body slumped silently into He Jinyun’s embrace.

Kira continued to shriek in terror, her voice cracking as she pleaded with him.

"Captain! Captain, wake up... please don’t leave me again... Boss..."

"Kira, take it easy. He's okay. He merely expended all his power. He's just sleeping."

He Jinyun found he could no longer stomach Kira’s wails.

Yet, he could see the unmistakable terror and dread shimmering in her eyes.

He had met his end before them and vanished from their lives for an extended period. Because of that, he had no grasp of what Sian and the others had endured subsequently in that world.

However, this was hardly the appropriate moment to ruminate on the past.

Presently, they possessed a cherished present... and a future that remained within their grasp.

"Let's get him to a secure location first. We can discuss things once he regains consciousness."

Kira nodded with fervent intensity.

She then positioned herself beside He Jinyun as he effortlessly hoisted Sian into his arms.

"Halt right there!"

Lan Qishing’s voice boomed as he charged toward them.

"Where are you taking him? You aren’t permitted to simply depart with him! Hand him over to me—we're escorting him to the military hospital."

As he declared this, he moved to take the unconscious Sian—

But a brilliant bolt of golden lightning erupted across the heavens with fearsome might.

Lan Qishing froze mid-stride, fixing He Jinyun with an irate glare.

"What exactly is your intention here, He Jinyun?"

"Heh... my intention?" He Jinyun chuckled softly. "Isn't it self-evident? You will not lay a hand on him."

His eyes, glowing like molten gold, emanated a perilous and enigmatic radiance.

"Do you genuinely believe I would entrust Gege, in his vulnerable state, to your care? Absolutely not."

"Why not? We stand united. He is the savior of humanity. Naturally, he will receive the finest treatment."

He Jinyun emitted a contemptuous laugh.

"Finest treatment? Savior?" His tone was liquid with disdain. "We've ingested those identical words before. Unending accolades. Unbounded gratitude. And in the final analysis, those very individuals incarcerated us and subjected us to relentless experimentation day after grueling day..."

His smile dissolved completely.

"I shall not be deceived again."

He Jinyun's gaze swept over Lan Qishing’s men, who, with expressions of apprehension, leveled their weapons at him.

"My captain might possess an overly compassionate nature..." he murmured. "He adamantly claims to be ruthless, yet his heart is more delicate than brittle parchment."

A chilling smile graced his lips.

"I, however, am different."

The instant his words faded, a violent torrent of lightning descended, striking all who dared aim their weaponry in his direction.

The assault did not claim their lives—

Yet, the soldiers instantly fell to their knees, their bodies wracked with agonizing spasms.

"He Jinyun... desist!"

"Lan Qishing, my tolerance for you has been predicated on Sian’s behalf. Because causing the demise of innocent souls would grieve him..."

His gaze narrowed, transforming into something chillingly lethal.

"But do not presume to plumb the depths of my forbearance."

Lan Qishing immediately perceived that He Jinyun was entirely serious.

He was acutely aware, more than anyone else, that the man who presented as compliant and doting in Sian’s presence concealed a core as frigid as stone beneath that veneer of affability... alongside a spirit submerged in profound darkness.

The sole individual possessing the capacity to rein in this man was currently rendered unconscious.

But—

No.

Under no circumstances would he permit them to spirit Sian away from him.

From the very outset, Lan Qishing had perpetually felt a sense of inadequacy when contrasted with Sian, who hailed from another realm.

When juxtaposed with Sian’s companions—the individuals who had weathered countless battles alongside him, enduring shared hardship and striving for survival alike—

When measured against their formidable strength... against the profound bond of trust that existed between them...

Lan Qishing was perpetually plagued by feelings of deficiency.

Unworthy of standing beside Sian.

Yet, despite it all...

He had never once entertained the notion of abandoning him.

He simply could not leave him.

His gaze drifted towards the delicate maiden standing nearby, her exquisite features and attire marred by a grim spattering of blood.

"Kira... intercede."

Kira had maintained an unbroken silence at He Jinyun’s side from the commencement of the events until their present juncture.

Lan Qishing harbored no desire for this confrontation to intensify. In truth, even bolstered by an additional hundred soldiers, he harbored no illusion of prevailing against He Jinyun.

Hence, his hope rested on Kira to act as a mediator.

However, her response left him utterly astounded.

"We are departing with He Jinyun. When the Captain awakens... should he desire to return, then he shall do so."

Lan Qishing’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Why?

Why were these individuals behaving in such a manner?

What remained unknown to Lan Qishing... was that they had all traversed an eerily similar ordeal in their past.

At that time, Sian had poured forth every iota of his power to ensure everyone's salvation.

And he had triumphed.

But subsequent to his complete exhaustion, he succumbed to a coma and slumbered for a considerable duration.

Who could have possibly fathomed that the very individuals he had delivered with his utmost effort... would ultimately betray them?

They administered sedatives.

Subsequently, they handed them over to their adversaries, where they endured horrific torture and relentless, cruel experimentation.

From that precise juncture forward, every member of Sian’s contingent absorbed a harsh and unyielding truth:

Kindness, it turned out, only invited disaster. To survive, one had to become even more ruthless than their enemies.

Outsiders could not be trusted. Not even Lan Qishing—the one claimed to be their captain’s brother’s lover. He Jinyun placed even less faith in him. Besides, He Jinyun possessed his own information network. Before their arrival, he had already ascertained the fate of the young boy Sian had once saved.

The government had pledged to protect the child and ensure his well-being. And what was the outcome?

Under the guise of research, the boy was treated as a dangerous criminal, his very flesh dissected. Humans…

They never changed, no matter how drastically the worlds transformed. How utterly preposterous.

He Jinyun’s eyes darkened further as the memory surfaced. It was fortunate that the captain remained unconscious. Had Sian been awake, a few sweet words from these individuals might have caused him to waver once more.

But now—He Jinyun had already dispatched loyal subordinates to bring the young boy to safety. Once Sian and Kira were taken, they would vanish to a place far beyond the reach of these vile creatures.

Inside the meeting base, the atmosphere had been one of triumphant celebration following their victory—

Until the scene unfolding before them shattered their elation.

"No! We cannot allow them to escape! Hurry and stop them! They must remain under our control!" a white-haired man exclaimed with urgency.

Another quickly chimed in, "Sian’s power is extraordinary, and that girl Kira is remarkable as well. Even that mysterious man who appeared—we need them working for humanity. It’s their sworn duty! How can they possibly just leave? Those ungrateful wretches!"

"Minister! Quickly, order your forces to surround them! They are at their most vulnerable now. If individuals with supernatural abilities from your squad can block their escape, we might still succeed!"

All eyes turned towards Wei Ling, filled with fervent anticipation.

Wei Ling released a long, weary sigh before murmuring, "Now, I finally grasp why Sian refused to aid humanity previously…"

His gaze grew somber for a brief moment. "Humans truly are…"

He never completed the thought. But no one bothered to inquire further.

Because, on the colossal screen before them, He Jinyun made his move. Clutching Sian in his arms, with Kira by his side, he boarded the helicopter that had just touched down.

Mere moments later, it vanished into the night sky—

Just as the first hints of dawn began to paint the horizon.
