Flowers Are Bait Chapter 259:
Previously on Flowers Are Bait...
You promised me, male! Gyu-baek insisted to Kwon Chae-woo. He continued to refer to Kwon Chae-woo as male, just like addressing a male insect.
Kwon Chae-woo, cradling the slumbering Lee-yeon against his shoulder, glanced at a pair of slender legs nearby.
Right at that moment, the lively chuckles of Joo Dong-mi and Choo-ja rang out from afar. It seemed everyone was heading this way, each carrying lovely bouquets.
Additionally, to properly welcome Jang Beom-hee, who had just settled in, he had brought her along. Kwon Chae-woo's expression remained utterly calm, showing no hint of awareness about his error.
"If you assist this male in wedding Director Lee-yeon, then..."
Those were the words a certain man had murmured to the boy in front of the Kwon family home recently. This deal was offered to Gyu-baek, whose thoughts were fixated on wealth.
He even presented a more substantial and superior gold toad, and...
"I'll allow you to conduct the ceremony."
Exactly. Yet this male hasn't tied the knot yet.
No, I've been training nightly these days.
"Why, does it feel near?"
"It's right on the horizon."
Upon hearing Gyu-baek's meaningful statement, Kwon Chae-woo's mouth curved into a grin. He carefully draped the slipping blanket over Lee-yeon and signaled with his gaze.
"In that case, let's do a run-through."
"This is practice for the director's marriage rite."
Gyu-baek clasped his hands together and rose onto his tiptoes. Having rehearsed endlessly, he could deliver the lines flawlessly even while dreaming. The boy's tiny lips parted rapidly.
Macaroni penguin, gray wolf, pinecone lizard, long-armed monkey, black bald eagle...
Hold on, hold on.
Kwon Chae-woo cut in, arching a brow.
"What in the world is that?"
"The bridegroom shouldn't meddle."
Whether silenced by the retort or pleased with the role, Kwon Chae-woo shut his lips.
Macaroni penguin, gray wolf, pinecone lizard, long-armed monkey, black bald eagle, owl monkey, gnu, white-headed eagle. Till the end, these creatures devote themselves to just one mate.
A gentle, faint chuckle escaped from Kwon Chae-woo's shoulder. Lee-yeon fought the impulse to wriggle.
But the fellow, sensing her wakefulness already, planted a kiss straight on her brow.
"Going forward, you'll nurture the young like a macaroni penguin. Should your mate face peril as with a gray wolf, you'll dash to the rescue at all costs. As a pinecone lizard does, you'll let the female go ahead and trail after. With a long-armed monkey's way, you'll rear the young side by side and preen one another. Like a black bald eagle, you'll remain inseparable day by day, season after season. If your partner strays like a gnu, your appetite will fade. As an owl monkey stays faithful, you'll avoid any betrayal. With a white-headed eagle's bond, you'll share at least two decades.
With hands gripped firmly, the boy's stance seemed sincere, though his delivery echoed an encyclopedia recital. Lee-yeon clamped her lower lip firmly, striving to suppress her laughter.
In truth, I'm not entirely sure what a blessing entails.
Yet viewing Director Lee-yeon and you, unfamiliar phrases pop into my head. Plenty here defies the dictionary's bounds.
For the first time, the typically stoic child revealed a straight line of teeth. His blank features contorted, revealing hidden dimples on each cheek. That gaze, usually fixed on pages or bugs, momentarily gleamed, directed at a human instead.
Lee-yeon squeezed Kwon Chae-woo's arm firmly, while he regarded Gyu-baek with deeply warm eyes.
The forthcoming infant would gain a genuine and honorable big brother, one she lacked before. This child would forge a different road from his father's choices, potentially cherishing his sibling above all.
Still, the tale of Nam-woo's elder brothers erecting the nation's grandest insect habitat for their cherished kin lies far off in the distant tomorrow.
Director So Lee-yeon! I've arrived!
Lee-yeon-ah, I'm here!
Doyeon...
"Who, who might that be?" Kwon Chae-woo pressed for clarification.
Gradually, the summoned visitors assembled in the woods.
Moments prior to the uproar exploding.
Kwon Chae-woo wished she'd soon uncover the wooden chest concealed behind her cello.
Within lay the yellow sticky notes the girl had furtively attached to her tree bark, stacked like tiny stones. Those cherished instants when he murmured,
"I wish to remain as Lee-yeon's bloom eternally." Kwon Chae-woo had confided to her.
The individual who began as her flora transformed back into her flora and settled softly upon her.
However, deception was no longer necessary.
Untruths held no purpose.
She stood as the sole arborist globally capable of managing this fearsome floral man, prone to shifting unpredictably.
Lee-yeon teasingly replied to his admission, whispering, "Not in the role of my spouse?"
!
Simultaneously, Joo Dong-mi, snarling fiercely, forced Jang Beom-hee to grovel on the earth.
It marked the dawn of spring, the festival's onset.

That evening, within her dream, Lee-yeon flipped open a tale book. The cover bore scratched-out words 'Baby Tree-', then revised.
To baby Nam-woo.
It narrated a tale of a deeply rooted tree and a singing tree, culminating in eternal joy. This missive proclaimed that in Hwaido, blending tunes, timber, and bugs, all could cherish and rejoice.
The author is Lee Gyu-baek, and the title is
Another unforgettable summer was approaching.
