The group entered a luxurious reception hall in the Deerman castle, confirming no magic traps after a careful sweep. Despite the opulence and prior tension from the old Deerman, their search yielded no secrets. Urgent mumbling drew Leo Ray to a magic painting of two moons, where a subtle black shadow figure's hoarse female voice pleaded for human aid, blocked by an invisible barrier.

“Since they can’t shatter the barrier by themselves, maybe I can apply some force from over here.”

This idea sparked inside him, and Leo Ray sensed a raging tempest of power erupting within, sharpening his five senses to an extraordinary degree.

Sure enough, the shadowy outline sharpened into focus this time. It revealed a slender, fragile form topped with deer antlers, clearly belonging to a Moon Shadow Deer Person.

Yet, in contrast to the typical deer people boasting tall, sprawling antlers, this delicate figure had hers shattered, with merely the stubs remaining atop her head.

As the image grew vivid, the desperate voice rang out more clearly: “Your Majesty of the Humans, please rescue us Moon Shadow Deer People!”

“That’s exactly why I’m reaching out to you right now.”

Leo Ray gave a small nod before promptly inquiring, “What must I do?”

“Thank you so much, Your Majesty of the Humans, for your aid!”

The fragile figure responded at once, her voice trembling with joyful sobs, “Truth be told, my location is the heart of the Moon Shadow Array. Destroy this spot, and the rest will crumble effortlessly!”

“The Moon Shadow Array? Right where you are?”

Leo Ray’s brows creased slightly at the confusing words.

The powerhouses beside him exchanged stunned glances, since Leo Ray was clearly conversing through empty space.

“I’m positioned at the array’s core; I’ll pull you all inside somehow!”

The exchange had barely concluded when something strange happened.

Before Leo Ray and his comrades could respond, the magical painting blazed with light, and once their sight returned, they stood in a profoundly dim domain.

Silence reigned everywhere, with a large moon and a smaller one hovering above, amid a vast starry sky sparkling with countless stars!

“Did we just step into that Starry Sky magic painting ahead of us?”

Lila cried out in shock, her eyes bulging wide.

The rest of the powerhouses mirrored her amazement, their faces etched with utter incredulity.

“Hey, check that out!”

Moli yanked at Leo Ray’s robe, gesturing behind them.

Leo Ray’s gaze followed Moli’s pointing finger, and astonishment hit him.

Floating in the air behind the group was a window, showing the opulent reception hall outside!

“We’re really inside the magic painting now; it’s utterly incredible!”

Moli’s starry eyes blinked rapidly, bewilderment spreading across her pale features.

“Not quite right.”

A hesitant, hoarse feminine voice cut in abruptly, clarifying, “This is actually a Barrier Area crafted to conceal the Moon Shadow Array’s core!”

The sudden voice put everyone on high alert, and they swiftly encircled the source.

Standing there was a scrawny young female deer person clad in tattered light yellow magic robes. Her head antlers were broken off, leaving just rough stubs.

She panted heavily, her bony collarbone heaving up and down from mana depletion, the toll of drawing them in evident.

hemmed in by the intimidating powerhouses, her yellowish face drained to ghostly white; she froze, hardly daring to breathe.

“Who are you?”

Moli’s smooth face filled with bewilderment at the girl’s worn garb and gaunt cheeks.

Unlike the other deer people in fine attire oozing riches, this young deer person resembled a street beggar.

“She’s the enigmatic shadow I saw.”

Leo Ray identified her voice right away, gesturing for the powerhouses to ease back a bit as he explained, “I caught her faint murmurs several times before, piecing together the hidden cry of ‘help us’. That convinced me she was leading us here.”

He offered her a warm smile and a nod to calm her nerves.

“I poured every ounce of strength to send my voice to Your Majesty, given the Moon Shadow Array’s overwhelming might.”

The weak deer person gazed gratefully at Leo Ray, nodding vigorously, “Without Your Majesty picking up on the hints and engaging me, I probably couldn’t have spoken directly to you all.”

Enlightenment dawned on the group at her words, and they nodded, accepting she posed no threat.

Still, it was plain that the lord’s sharp detection of clues had enabled this encounter.

Even as understanding spread, puzzled looks soon crossed their faces.

This individual’s aura hovered at standard Tier 6 level; if she was the shadow, how had she slipped past multiple half-step Tier 7 powerhouses?

“You said this is a Barrier Area?”

Moli knitted her brows in confusion, “Yet I sensed no spatial energy fluctuations whatsoever.”

Bruce, another space magic expert, nodded after Moli’s question, his eyes brimming with perplexity.

A true Barrier Area, no matter how cleverly veiled, should have registered with them upon entry.

“That’s the fearsome trait of the Moon Shadow Array; it can flawlessly block your senses, even from many of you mighty half-step Tier 7 powerhouses.”

The slender deer person nodded at Moli while clarifying, “Thus, it’s hardly surprising that you failed to detect this Barrier Area.”

“Is your figure shimmering because of the Moon Shadow Array’s concealment?”

Leo Ray lightly stroked his chin, instantly identifying the key point.

“Your Majesty of the Humans is right; I sensed your arrival the moment you stepped onto the tree-shaded path beyond the city. Though I tried every method to signal or reach you physically, nothing worked.”

The slender deer person nodded in agreement, adding, “So, even after I finally pierced the Moon Shadow Array’s barrier to appear before you, the array’s effect immediately hid me again. Only through my greatest exertion could I send those fragments of message to Your Majesty.”

“So, your ghostly vanishing from the detection range of ordinary half-step Tier 7 powerhouses wasn’t from some superior technique or deliberate evasion, but purely the Moon Shadow Array’s shielding effect?”

Leo Ray snapped his fingers, voicing the solution aloud.

The assembled powerhouses nodded as enlightenment dawned, at last grasping why she, possessing only Tier 6 strength, had slipped through their grasp.

However, their foreheads soon creased deeply; if that was the case, had the Moon Shadow Array been affecting them ever since they entered the deer people’s territory?

“Just as the monarch stated, I kept striving to breach the barrier and contact you, but every attempt fell short.”

The slender deer person shook her head in resignation, then gazed at Leo Ray with profound reverence before proceeding, “Luckily, Your Majesty picked up on the hints I sent and came here on your own initiative to speak with me, making this encounter possible.”

“This spot serves as both the array’s heart and the place where its power is at its feeblest.”

The slender deer person drew a deep breath, then went on, “To put it simply, only right here can I speak with you directly, face to face!”

“If it’s the array’s core, wouldn’t its influence be strongest there, not weakest? And what precisely is this Moon Shadow Array you keep referring to?”

Moli cocked her head, completely baffled.
