In the perilous underground space, parasitized earth dragons enhanced by Corrosion lunged at the cracking Absolute Defense Barrier, poised to devour Leo Ray's forces. Lila and Kira watched in despair as the bloodthirsty horde closed in. Leo Ray activated the Extermination Array Scroll at the last moment, unleashing a golden energy wave that shattered crystals on the dragons' foreheads, killing many Tier 5 and 6 beasts while crippling the stronger ones and disintegrating the Corrosion.

“Thus, the root of this disaster isn’t nearly as straightforward as it looks on the surface—that’s exactly what makes it so utterly frightening, and naturally, the ‘Ruins Returner’ orchestrating it all from the shadows.”

Leo Ray gave a subtle nod while keeping up the orders for the powerhouses to take down the nearby foes.

Thanks to the Annihilation Array’s suppression, even the half-step Tier 7 Earth Dragons faced heavy restrictions, letting our forces seize control of the battlefield once more in short order.

With every thunderous clash of energies, the rugged hides of those infested Earth Dragons saw their energy shields crack apart one by one, their dark scales shattered or ripped to shreds.

Even as victory swung firmly our way, Leo Ray’s expression grew graver by the moment.

One key fact stood out: the Extermination Array Scrolls they held were in short supply, merely dozens remaining, nowhere near enough for a few more fights. Repeated encounters like this would exhaust them fast.

Post the exchange in Observation City, while their top fighters had picked up key methods from old Book, fully mastering them and crafting simple scrolls would demand a good deal of time.

“We’ve got to ramp up Extermination Array Scroll production. With magical ley line eruptions hitting so often now and ‘Corrosions’ showing up in droves, the Magic Barrier holds for the moment, but its power has likely dropped way below its peak.”

“Put simply, the Magic Barrier’s collapse looms ever closer.”

With these thoughts racing through his head, Leo Ray unleashed his Thunder Light alongside Sheila’s Elemental Bullet; a massive boom followed, vaporizing a half-step Tier 7 Earth Dragon on the spot.

Leo Ray showed no concern over whether deploying the Extermination Array would alert the Erosion Erasers.

This spot lay deep beneath the Miracle Building’s base, shielded by both outer defense barriers and the fortress’s unbreakable barrier—unlike the surface earlier. Even mighty Erosion Erasers would struggle to penetrate here anytime soon.

As Leo Ray pondered, the powerhouses pressed on, rapidly clearing out most of the infested Earth Dragons. Muddy remnants bubbled up before evaporating entirely, while regular ‘Corrosions’ crumbled to dust the instant the Annihilation Array activated.

All this unfolded in mere heartbeats, with brilliant Magic Radiance lighting up the cavernous depths in vivid hues. Like chopping through weeds, they annihilated far more infested Earth Dragons.

“How can this be? What’s that vile barrier stinking of repulsion?!”

From a dim corner of the underground chamber, the once-bold, sneering rasp now trembled in frenzy.

“Looks like it’s all over for you. I warned you—this was suicide.”

Purple light flashed as Leo Ray guided the powerhouses right up to the foe.

Bathed in the magic sphere’s glow, everyone laid eyes on a parasite’s face studded with black crystal clusters and empty sockets.

The warped visage sported a ragged beard, black veins bulging amid thick crystal growths, looking savage and terrifying. Short yet powerfully built limbs and a brawny frame stood out starkly.

“A slovenly, bearded parasite.”

Moli’s eyebrows knit tight, her magic wand pulsing with intense energy.

“You insignificant humans—I’ll make you pay!”

The foe lunged wildly, heaving its massive axe at Leo Ray with savage force!

“Triple Space Strangulation!”

“Silver Radiance Lightning!”

“Hundred Thunder Star Fall!”

The powerhouses struck back at once, unleashing a torrent of magic that swallowed the enemy whole.

As the blinding glows dimmed, the attacker lay sprawled, thick black smoke rising from its form.

“You pests, don’t celebrate yet—the Magic Barrier nears its end, your lucky streak finishes soon, death’s dread shadow and conquest will crush every one of you!”

The foe raised its head slowly, its crystal-riddled mug contorting more hideously as eerie laughter bubbled out: “This is only the start, destruction’s veil lifts now—you’ll drown in despair and agony like never before, hahaha…”

Before the wicked cackle died away, fresh waves of potent magic thundered in; as the brilliance ebbed, nothing remained but a puddle of black sludge, plus a reeking axe and shattered armor.

“Tch, still blustering! With Your Majesty here, dream on about flipping the world upside down!”

Moli folded her arms, fully seeing herself as one of their own.

And so the fight wrapped up.

“Your Majesty, as remarkable as always!”

With the huge underground area falling quiet again, Lila and Kira shook off their shock from the whirlwind of action.

Just moments before, despair over the looming clash had gripped them, yet in a flash, they’d turned the tide and claimed triumph on the field!

The heart of it all? Your Majesty’s rock-solid poise and unshakable calm—not forgetting the bottomless strength and mind-blowing aces up the sleeve!

Such reflections sparked in their thoughts, filling Lila and Kira’s gazes with boundless awe and respect.

“The fight’s not done—time to head back.”

At the group’s heart, Leo Ray scanned to confirm the foe’s total demise, then signaled the powerhouses with a nod.

The elites answered as one and retraced their steps.

On the way, Leo Ray’s brow creased faintly.

That enemy’s taunts rang true, not empty boasts. Matching his own hunches, the Great Catastrophe edged nearer.

From here on, magical ley line outbursts would spike in number, ‘Corrosions’ multiply too—all harbingers of doom.

Plus, the Dragon Nest clash proved ‘Corrosions’ had infiltrated and maybe seized control over diverse races, Dragons included, making things even messier.

Lost in these musings, Leo Ray’s team reached Gray Thorn Castle’s depths once more.

Faded wall runes from prior damage flickered back to life, eaten-away stone mended itself—the Miracle Building’s self-healing at work.

Leo Ray expected as much; barring core destruction, the Miracle Building boasted strong regenerative powers.

That said, extreme harm demanded hands-on fixes with resources, like Chasing Light Castle before.

Back inside Gray Thorn Castle, they didn’t dawdle, soaring out to the fringes and purging the final ‘Corrosions’ to seal the victory.

Soon after Leo Ray’s crew departed, shadowy figures materialized in the freshly fought underground lair, scanning the scene.

A distinct cloak emblem marked them as covert Erosion Erasers.

“That puny Human Clan Emperor does pack some punch, handling that horde and sparing us effort.”

A light, astonished feminine voice drifted out casually: “Not a feat for just anybody.”

With that, the figure doffed its hood, baring a face pale yet clustered with crystals.
