“My apologies, venerable City Lord, I’ve arrived late.”
In the vivid glow of purple magical light, Leo Ray’s features stood out sharply. He gave a slight bow to Book and remarked, “Remember, I’m the hero called forth by the Deity. How could I allow you to confront the foes by yourself?”
Upon hearing Leo Ray’s statement, an overwhelming wave of appreciation and admiration surfaced on the aged, creased face of Book. Overcome with emotion, he found himself unable to speak, merely nodding vigorously.
The elderly City Lord was well aware that despite Leo Ray and his allies being summoned to this realm—and possibly bound by divine mandates—this bold young lord held no true ties to this territory.
The Corrosion Grand Army’s ability to rampage unchecked across this domain stemmed from the deep-seated distrust and wariness among the Ten Thousand Clans in those days, enabling the invaders to overwhelm them sequentially like an unstoppable surge.
Only after the Divine Stones had fragmented successively did the Ten Thousand Clans awaken to their error, but by then, it was far too late; such calamities were the very consequences inflicted upon this land by the Ten Thousand Clans’ own actions.
Nevertheless, Leo Ray and his followers didn’t merely endure the perils and upheavals tearing through this realm; they also freely supplied a vast array of Divine Stone Weapons and additional supplies. Free from the snares of Corrosion and never belittling their adversaries, they consistently battled modestly beside the commanders. How could such conduct fail to command the old City Lord’s esteem?
Beyond old Book, the sight of Leo Ray’s form filled Curry and the remaining generals with renewed vigor, lifting their morale afresh. In particular, Asher Porter and his comrades were so thrilled they could scarcely hold back, shouting boisterously, “Your Majesty is mighty!”
“Insignificant pests, I never anticipated you’d pierce the Void Space and locate the route to this place. Evidently, that pink pest put in considerable effort.”
Blessed by the Ruins Returner, Lion King Feld instantly comprehended the situation, his rigid lips—encrusted with crystalline formations—curling into a sneer as he declared, “Yet what difference does it make? We’ve already seized this city; what could you possibly alter?”
Scarce had Lion King Feld’s haughty words ceased when an untimely alert chimed in.
[Prompt: Observation City is currently lost by 29%. If the percentage falls to 20% or the Central Temple is breached, it will be deemed a defense failure.]
[Prompt: Observation City is currently lost by 28.5%. If the percentage falls to 20% or the Central Temple is breached, it will be deemed a defense failure.]
“It appears my timing is perfect; the situation hasn’t spiraled beyond recovery.”
Leo Ray ignored the persistent alerts echoing onward, turning his full concentration to the Parasite before him.
Leo Ray knew full well that swiftly eliminating these three half-step Seventh-rank Parasites was essential to halt the encroaching darkness from swiftly extinguishing that fragile spark of hope.
With a mere mental command from Leo Ray, countless elemental projectiles pulsing with ruinous force plummeted from above, slamming straight into Lion King Feld’s skull. This assault came from Sheila, whom Leo Ray had stealthily placed in the shadows even as he parried the massive hammer with his blade.
“Such repeated tactics hold no sway over me twice!”
Drawing lessons from the prior Parasite’s fate, Lion King Feld recognized Sheila’s habit of shadowing Leo Ray closely. Thus, as the elemental projectiles launched, his bulky, crystal-encased frame vaulted back, deftly evading Sheila’s strike.
However, right as he sought to touch down securely, the earth quaked beneath him, and a veil of holy luminescence erupted from the ornate stone walkway before the temple.
In the instant that followed, radiant chains of sanctity surged forth with immense force from the stone’s engraved patterns, rapidly ensnaring the unprepared Lion King Feld. At the glow’s origin stood the aged Book, clutching a Magic Wand stained with blood.
“Wretched old pest, I’ll rip you apart!”
Lion King Feld bellowed in fury, desperately snapping the bindings. Bolstered by his abruptly swelling colossal muscles and surging protective shield, the gleaming golden chains shattered successively, clattering uselessly to the earth.
While his movements were thus hindered, a barrage of thunderous booms and elemental projectiles rained down anew, savagely pummeling the foe.
Amidst deafening blasts that shook the ground, the stone path under Lion King Feld’s feet disintegrated utterly, its pale shards scattering before melting away in the intense thunder’s blaze, then swiftly solidifying into glassy chunks.
Not merely the path met destruction; Lion King Feld’s sturdy energy shield, which had withstood the relentless barrage of elemental projectiles, swiftly disintegrated beneath the all-encompassing thunder radiance.
As the brilliant purple magical glow at last dimmed, Lion King Feld’s enormous form had toppled to the ground. Even the crystalline growths sheathing his body had turned to char, crumbling swiftly into dust, revealing only a vast, scorched corpse belching dark fumes.
“Old City Lord, your restraint of the enemy was invaluable.”
Leo Ray shifted his eyes from the inert corpse and inclined his head toward Book.
“Lord Brave, such commendation is too kind. It was merely a prearranged magical snare within the Temple that I triggered. These blasphemers shall rue their arrogance and haste in due course.”
With grave demeanor, old Book brushed a streak of blood from his snowy beard and affirmed, “We elders shall battle alongside Lord Brave until our last breath!”
“Precisely for that reason I’ve come; we cannot surrender to despair, as retreat is not an option.”
Leo Ray surveyed the expansive city shrouded in haze and resounding with magical detonations. Without hesitation, he, Sheila, and old Book charged toward the pair of Centaur Parasites.
Confronted by Leo Ray, Sheila, Book, Curry, and numerous other half-step Seventh-order powerhouses, plus a host of loyal generals, the two Centaur Parasites displayed no trepidation. Rather, their visages twisted savagely as they assailed with even greater abandon.
No sooner had Leo Ray and his allies poised for direct confrontation than shadowy forms radiating bloodthirst and killing intent advanced from behind the duo.
In a flash, more than a hundred parasitized entities radiating icy presences materialized, their formidable and dynamic aura thrusting heavenward. Evidently, their power surpassed Tier 6 entirely.
Within their ranks loomed six half-step Tier 7 presences, and two figures bore fresh marks of parasitism, their forehead crystals shining vividly—undoubtedly the two Divine Stone Generals who had been exchanging insights with Leo Ray’s team merely a day prior!
Furthermore, certain Tier 6 Parasites exhibited traces of recent Corrosion infestation; not long before, they had been locked in fierce combat.
Beholding those vacant, soulless gazes, Leo Ray and his allies’ faces grew ever more somber, their grips tightening fiercely on their arms.
