“The second possibility isn't difficult to deduce; the answer is right in front of us.”
Leo Ray spoke as he suppressed the throbbing purple magic light within his palm. “The only reason you arrived at this place is simple — you were left with no other choice.”
“This is the only logical explanation for why you chose to parasitize the White Knight. You simply lacked any other alternatives.”
Ascending the altar steps, Leo Ray began a slow approach toward the vacant-eyed figure. He remarked casually, “If my calculations are correct, when the magical ley lines erupted a millennium ago, you weren't the only thing that surged from the depths. Weren't there others of your species pursuing you?”
“No choice? Being followed by others of his kind?”
Hearing these words, everyone surrounding Leo Ray—from his powerful subordinates to the Stone Spirits—expressed visible shock as they began to follow the Lord's line of reasoning.
If they considered this perspective, was it possible this entity was being hunted or captured by other ‘Corrosion’ during that era? Perhaps he was forced to inhabit the nearby White Knight to conceal his presence and escape his stalkers?
Stunned by this sudden clarity, the team members finally understood. It was no wonder the Lord had maintained such unwavering confidence; he had deduced the truth long ago.
As the Lord suggested, if this arrogant foe truly viewed them as nothing more than insignificant ants, then this was indeed the only plausible scenario.
Standing directly before Leo Ray, the “White Knight” maintained his wall of silence.
Likely because he had not yet perfected control over his host’s facial muscles, the opponent’s expression was no longer as stoic as before. Obvious tremors of emotion flickered across his face before being quickly suppressed.
“Let me take a guess. In the beginning, before the crystallization manifested, you were capable of hiding yourself silently within your host, weren't you?”
Leo Ray stood toe-to-toe with the “White Knight,” declaring, “Such a concealment would be nearly impossible to detect, even for your own kind. After all, the location where the White Knight fell was a battlefield littered with corpses—the perfect sanctuary for someone trying to disappear.”
“However, after you took him as a host, the mortally wounded and dying White Knight fell into a total coma. He remained unaware that more of your kind emerged later on.”
Leo Ray stared intently into the hollow eyes of the being in front of him, his voice steady. “Am I correct?”
Yet, as Leo Ray’s interrogation ended, the adversary remained as unresponsive as a strange statue, offering no confirmation.
Observing this, the elites guarding Leo Ray did not lower their guard for a second. While staying alert, they all began to frown once more.
Leo Ray, however, remained unruffled. He spoke again, “Your Excellency, since you claim to be a higher lifeform, surely you consider lying beneath your dignity?”
“Master of the Human Clan, it appears the immense respect this man holds for you in his heart is well-founded.”
After a heavy silence, the “White Knight” finally responded in a slow, rasping, and deep voice. “You are right. I have no requirement to lie. If the Great Catastrophe truly descends, not even the peak powers who consider themselves first-rate would survive, let alone the insignificant Human Clan.”
The “White Knight” then stated coldly, “I will admit that your deduction is precise. I did indeed have a conflict with my peers, which led me to separate from them. The White Knight served as my sanctuary. I preserved his life, and in his ignorance, he provided me with cover.”
Upon hearing this admission, the allied experts were filled with triumph, their faces beaming with excitement.
The Lord had actually managed to confirm with just a few sentences that the enemy had internal conflicts with other ‘Corrosion’ and was even a fugitive among them.
This revelation meant that their prospects of extracting vital intelligence from the enemy had just improved dramatically!
“I am aware of your thoughts. Even the White Knight, who is currently suppressed by my power, is feeling an irrepressible surge of joy.”
A look of contempt surfaced in the vacant eyes of the “White Knight” as he mocked them. “While I may have disagreements with my kind, that does not mean you will obtain the secrets you seek from me. If you were in my position, would you divulge everything to a swarm of ants?”
“Do not forget that it was those very ants who provided you shelter, and it was your own desperation that led you to this path.”
Leo Ray’s voice was resolute as he replied calmly, “Your isolation might be your source of pride, but it carries no weight with us. Furthermore, do not forget that I possess the power to destroy you quite easily.”
“However, I believe there is still room for us to find a middle ground.”
Changing his approach, Leo Ray suggested, “Since you refuse to discuss other matters, let us talk about why you clashed with your own kind. Surely that doesn't wound your solitary pride?”
“Humans truly are inquisitive beings, just as I have observed.”
The “White Knight” reflected for a moment before answering honestly, “There is no harm in telling you. The reason I broke away from my kind is simple: I am an anomaly among the ‘Corrosion.’ That is all.”
“An anomaly among the ‘Corrosion’?”
At these words, the surrounding allies couldn't help but feel a spark of curiosity despite their vigilance. Leo Ray narrowed his eyes slightly, waiting for the entity to continue.
