Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 2050: Lost Moon
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
The tiny moon hovered over the pond.
Silvana was curious about its purpose, but after the Lost Sun showed her Adam’s flame and the Silver Weaver’s, Silvana forgot about it.
Well, Gladius was happy to remind her of this interesting object.
"Am I supposed to meet the moon?"
Instead of answering, Gladius grabbed her by the wrist and threw her straight into the moon.
"W-wait!"
All Silvana had time to see was the Lost Sun and Gladius, who were watching her from the other side.
Then, the bright light engulfed her as she found herself in a different place.
Thump.
Silvana fell into the void, only to land on a thick layer of clouds.
While the clouds in the sun’s realm had an amber hue, here they had a blue one. The floating clouds were different as well, they drifted across the night sky, watching Silvana from afar.
Just like in the sun’s realm, there was a pond right in the center. However, hovering above this pond was not the moon, but a tiny sun, exactly like the one Silvana had seen in the hall, but several times smaller.
By the pond sat a girl with waist-length ash-blonde hair and deep amethyst eyes, reminiscent of a magical night.
She gazed at the pond before turning around, directing her gaze toward Silvana.
"Here you are."
Silvana gulped.
She realized where she was now. It was the space of the Moon Colosseum, or, more precisely, of its External Artifact.
"You..." Silvana muttered uncertainly. "Your name is the Lost Moon, isn’t it?"
"Yes."
The girl nodded.
"As you know, the Lost Sun and I are connected, just as our arenas are. I remember you, Silvana, but not as well as I remember your Phantom. After all, Adam Vinter fought in my arena not long ago, and he won."
Silvana nodded cautiously.
For her and Adam, that had happened a year and a half ago, but for someone like the Lost Moon, it might have felt like a week or even just a few days. She didn’t yet know how old these two unusual artifacts were.
"My brother... He can see a talent in fighters that looks like a flame. I can’t do that, though I already know you don’t have that talent."
Silvana bit her lip as her expression grew serious.
"Then what are you capable of? I’m sure you have some kind of ability, too."
"Yes."
The Lost Moon’s amethyst eyes shone brightly.
"I can see fears. To me, they’re as bright as the stars in the night sky. I don’t just see your fears and how strong they are, but also what your heart fears most of all."
She continued, pointing at Silvana.
"I’ll tell you what your fear is, but first you must go to the pond."
Silvana was already familiar with this process, so she didn’t resist.
As soon as her reflection appeared in the pond, she saw only her dark figure surrounded by purple flames. The flames varied in size and intensity, each reflecting one of Silvana’s fears.
"It’s normal to have fears. Every living being should have fears, and if you don’t have any fears, it means you don’t have a mind either, that you’ve become just a mad beast. No one would want that fate for themselves."
"B-But?" Silvana turned to her.
"But fears are supposed to help you avoid making mistakes, help you survive difficult situations, and become stronger. Only some fears are capable of doing that, while others, on the contrary, prevent you from making progress."
The Lost Moon touched the water’s surface, sending ripples across the pond.
"As you know, your fear falls into the second category. And as long as you have this main fear, you won’t be able to unlock or develop your talent, nor will you be able to reach the Second Circle alongside Adam."
Silvana clenched her fists as her heart beat faster and faster.
When she asked Gladius for help, she expected a battle, a test of endurance, or something similar.
It turned out to be far worse than she’d imagined.
"Enough. Tell me what my main fear is. What am I so afraid of that it’s keeping me from getting stronger?"
The Lost Moon blinked.
"You should know this, but fine, I’ll tell you if you want to hear it."
Her large eyes grew even brighter, gazing straight into Silvana’s soul.
"You’re afraid that you don’t understand how Adam wins. Intellectually, you understand that he takes risks and always fights to the very end. Yet, time and time again, he wins, no matter how recklessly he acts."
The Lost Moon stood up as she poked Silvana in the chest.
"You know that if you acted the same way, you’d have been in your grave long ago. So... You don’t understand how you’re supposed to fight alongside Adam, to be his equal partner, when you’ve lost so many battles that he miraculously won.
"If you want to be his weapon and help him win, then you have to be his equal. But you know that if he were your Operator and you were a Phantom, it would all be over after a few missions because you’d die."
Silvana’s face paled as she simply stared at the Lost Moon with a frozen expression.
It wasn’t just the truth, it was a blade that the Lost Moon had plunged straight into Silvana’s heart.
’She... She’s right... Fuck!’ Silvana cried out inwardly as she realized she couldn’t argue with her.
Tremble.
Before Silvana could say anything in reply, the space trembled as a bright, sunlit portal opened off to the side.
The Lost Sun and Gladius entered the moon space as Gladius waved his hand in greeting.
"Hey, Lost Moon, it’s been a while."
Silvana turned toward them.
"What she said is true, but what should I do in that case...? How do I get rid of this fear?"
The Lost Moon and the Lost Sun exchanged glances.
"We have an idea," the Lost Sun said. "You need one fight."
"Ah? One fight? Against whom?" She looked cautiously at the Lost Moon.
Her eyes flashed.
"Against your Phantom, Silvana."
