Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1986: Two More Explosions and an Escape
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Neither Adam nor Breydar knew what had caused the two aura waves that nearly knocked them out. It was only thanks to their auras and their power levels that they managed to stay on their feet.
But they both realized that right now, somewhere in the distance, a battle was beginning between two fighters who were possibly among the strongest creatures they had ever encountered.
"Are you saying that two True Lords are about to fight in the area between the Hollow Lands and the Tarnished Lands? Do you have any idea who they might be?" Adam frowned, gazing into the distance.
Breydar shook his head.
"You’re overestimating me. I know the same True Lords as every monster of my level, but I don’t have any personal connections with any of them, let alone information about why two of them are going to fight here. What’s more..."
His voice grew lower as a sharp glint flashed across his eyes.
"It’s not a given that they’re two True Lords."
"Ah?" Adam turned around, raising an eyebrow. "What does that mean?"
"Come on, Adam, you should have figured out what I’m talking about by now. Who else in this world besides the True Lords could possess such a terrifying aura?"
Breydar waved his hand.
"If I’m right, they’re currently more than a hundred kilometers away from us, and that’s the closest point. It’s quite possible they’re even farther away, yet their auras have had such an effect on us."
Adam’s eyes widened for a moment as realization struck him.
"Second-Rank Phantom..."
"Bingo." Breydar snapped his fingers.
Adam spun around sharply in that direction.
’Is that true? Damn, their auras were so strong that I couldn’t even tell if it was a monster or a Phantom! But... If this is really a battle between a Second-Rank Phantom and a True Lord, then I have to find out what’s going on over there!’
BAM!
Breydar’s fist slammed into Adam’s jaw.
The impact sent Adam flying to the side as he crashed into the rock.
Before Adam could recover, Breydar channeled all his energy into his legs and shot upward, flying away from Island A215.
He moved as fast as he could, realizing this was his only sure chance of survival.
’Faster. I have to move even faster!’ Breydar cried out inwardly as panic flashed in his eyes.
Earlier, Breydar had tried to convince Adam to call off their fight, and even though he knew the chances of that were slim, by continuing the conversation he was buying himself time to regain more energy.
But after two different auras descended upon them, everything changed for him.
’If this really is one of the Second-Rank Phantoms, then there’s no point in me even fighting!’ Breydar clenched his fists, moving forward at top speed.
’Even if I defeat Adam, this Second-Rank Phantom will sense our battle. It’s all over for me regardless of the outcome!’
True, that was exactly why Breydar resorted to the only plan he had left - to escape.
The next island, Island A216, was already visible ahead. Unlike Island A215, it was full of dense trees, practically a jungle in the middle of the sea.
Breydar turned around, seeing Island A215 in the distance. Soon, it would disappear from his view, vanishing behind the horizon.
"Did I make it? Did I manage to do it?"
Whoooooooooosh!
Suddenly, a dark flash erupted on Island A215.
Breydar’s pupils contracted as he saw the black spear hurtling toward him at high speed. With every passing second, it grew faster and faster as its crimson flame burned brighter.
"This spear... Is it made of Dark Energy?!"
At that moment, Breydar didn’t know this, but his instincts may have saved his life then.
He decided not to dodge the spear but to block it. It was one of those rare moments when Breydar chose to listen to his instincts rather than his mind.
’Something’s wrong with this spear, I can feel it! Weapons infused with Dark Energy always hide some kind of secret. I must destroy it right here and now!’
Tremble.
With a tremor, a long dagger with a curved blade appeared in Breydar’s hand. Its edges were covered in a thick mist, hiding its sharpness behind a dense trail of energy.
This was Breydar’s Arc, the weapon he hadn’t even used when fighting the bearded man and the two young men. He knew he would need his Arc if he had to face Adam.
"Tsk. I didn’t want to do this, but it seems I have no other choice. If he wants to chase me, I’ll stop him right here and now!"
He realized that the time for talk and cunning plans was over. Now he had to act.
Tremble.
His dagger trembled as a multitude of mist arms emerged from the void, running along its blade.
In a sweeping motion, Breydar hurled his Arc straight at the black spear that was already very close to him.
The black spear was ready to pursue its target for as long as necessary, until the target was defeated. But the black spear could be destroyed with enough power.
Breydar didn’t want to sacrifice his Arc, but he felt it was the right decision.
BLAST!
The dagger collided with the black spear. A blast of dark flame and gray mist erupted as a shockwave spread out in all directions.
Breydar’s long gray hair trembled in the violent gusts of wind as waves surged in all directions across the Gray Sea beneath the explosion.
However, Breydar had no time to be distracted by the explosion.
If he wanted to escape from Adam and save his life, he had to do something else.
Tap.
In his hand was a piece of an amber crystal. It was full of energy, as it was part of one of the many crystal pillars on Island A215.
Breydar had taken it with him for one purpose only - to control Island A215 even from a great distance.
"You should have accepted my first offer, Adam. Then I wouldn’t have had to do this!"
Crunch.
Breydar crushed the crystal.
At the same moment, a multitude of bright flashes filled Island A215, followed by a deafening explosion that was several times more powerful than the first one.
