Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1975: Five and Two (Part 1)
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Breydar’s plan was simple yet effective. He realized that he couldn’t defeat two Viscounts and three Barons on his own, even though he was a Viscount himself.
But if he could wear down Raoha, Luaxa, and the others, he might have a slim chance of victory.
What would happen if a K4-Phantom, the leading candidate to become the next Second-Rank Phantom, joined his opponents?
Well, Breydar hadn’t considered that possibility. He didn’t know that a Phantom was hunting him. But if that were the case, he wouldn’t stand a chance. In that case, he would have had six opponents, three of whom would have been on his level.
It would have been a quick death and inevitable failure.
Or... Would things have turned out differently?
"Who...?" Breydar took a step back, touching the rock. "Who the hell are you?"
Adam gave him a long look.
"Come on, Breydar, you must know. Unlike many other monsters, you’ve been quite active in trying to get stronger in the years leading up to the World Wipe."
He stepped forward as the light from the nearest crystal fell on his face.
"You know me. I’m sure of it."
As soon as half the shadow receded from Adam’s figure, Breydar’s amber eyes widened in disbelief.
He did, in fact, know who was standing before him.
"Adam... You... You’re Adam Vinter?"
"Bingo."
Then, Adam raised his gaze to the Veiled Souls Clan squad. The crystals continued to attack them, but gradually the energy within the crystals was dwindling.
It wouldn’t be long before Raoha, Luaxa, and the others landed on Island A215 and attacked Breydar with everything they had. He would have to fight five of them alone. Sure, their energy reserves wouldn’t be full, but the advantage was still on their side.
"You... What are you doing here?" Breydar frowned.
Under normal circumstances, he would have already assumed a fighting stance and released his aura. But Breydar couldn’t do that, because if he did, Raoha and the others would suspect that something was happening on the island.
In fact, Breydar hadn’t noticed Adam not only because he was focused on his enemies, but also because Adam had completely suppressed his aura.
Right now, to anyone at roughly his level or weaker, he was invisible, at least as far as his aura was concerned. Of course, Breydar, Raoha, and the others could see him perfectly well with their own eyes.
His aura was hardly any different from that of an ordinary human, and Breydar had to act in the same way.
He didn’t yet know what Adam wanted, so he held out hope that things weren’t as bad as he’d imagined.
Well, to some extent, he was right.
Adam, in turn, continued to look at Raoha, Luaxa, and the other members of the Veiled Souls Clan.
Then, he glared at Breydar. The man standing before him had long gray hair, amber eyes, and the only clothes he wore were a black robe draped over his muscular torso and loose black pants.
"I came here to kill you, Breydar."
Breydar narrowed his eyes, but still, he didn’t panic - not yet. His aura remained at the same level as he realized things couldn’t be that simple.
"But, unfortunately, we’ve both ended up trapped on this island, haven’t we?" Adam asked, though he didn’t need an answer.
A few moments later, Breydar nodded.
"Yes, but since you came here, you knew what to expect. What’s more, you could have just watched from the sidelines and waited for them to deal with me, but you decided to intervene, which means they’re your targets, too."
The corners of Adam’s mouth turned up for a moment. For some reason, he’d expected Breydar to figure that out, and pretty quickly, at that.
"I won’t hide it. It’s exactly as you say. I can’t take on you and the other five Lords by myself. It’s impossible for me right now."
Breydar’s expression grew more serious as his mind worked feverishly. He sensed that this was his chance - his way out of a hopeless situation.
"If I understand correctly, you came here to join forces with me?"
Adam nodded.
"Indeed. But we won’t be friends or allies. My main target is you. If the Veiled Souls Clan weren’t here, I would have already descended upon this island with all my might."
He held out his hand as darkness once again enveloped his figure.
"You’ll take on some of them, and I’ll handle the rest. We’ll kill them, and then we’ll fight each other. You won’t be able to escape, since their target is you, not me. They still don’t know there’s anyone else on this island besides you."
Breydar grew wary.
It was still better than the scenario where he’d have to fight five Lords at once, but it was still a major problem for him.
Now, he’d have to defeat two or three Lords, and then face Adam. But Adam would be exhausted after the fight, and he wouldn’t have to try to defeat the entire clan squad.
"I see. You want to get rid of them first and take me out last. In that case, you’ll use my help and kill six Lords in a single battle. Not a bad plan."
In response, Adam shrugged with a slight smile on his face.
"My plan is your only chance to survive. If you kill your opponents and then kill me, you’ll survive. Am I not right?"
Sure, Adam wasn’t wrong, but Breydar didn’t want to agree so easily.
"What if I refuse?" Breydar frowned.
Adam waved his hand dismissively.
"Well, in that case, I’ll have no choice but to step aside and watch as they tear you to pieces. Sure, in that case I won’t be able to kill them, but as I already said, my main target is you."
Breydar’s eyes darted from side to side, then he nodded.
"Fine. I agree."
"Good."
Soon, the island’s energy supply will run out, and then they’ll have to take action.
