Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1607 1607: Clan and Two Contenders
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
The arrival of the First Star with Adam at the Dark Shore turned into a landmark moment in his life. He barely escaped death with the aid of three formidable fighters, yet it proved to be a thrilling ordeal since he soon held a lengthy discussion with Wilfred.
Regardless, Adam had joined the select group of Phantoms who crossed the black flash and survived.
He thought those events were behind him and that the mission's trials had benefited him up to this point, but he now saw that wasn't completely accurate.
"Dark Energy...?" Adam questioned, stunned.
He'd just discovered the Ancient Energy not long ago. It represented a higher tier, a potent force, a precious asset good for only a handful of strikes at most.
Certainly, as time passed, Adam would accumulate more ancient energy, but that lay ahead in his journey, not at this moment.
At present, he was uncovering another form of energy from the creature that abducted him, which turned out to be a hidden gift.
The circumstances felt odd, making it tough for Adam to recall every twist and detail.
Yet just one query gripped him more than the rest:
"So, if I choose to, I can tap into the Dark Energy immediately?" he inquired.
Zargos gave a nod.
"Yes. Ordinarily, that would occur further along in your evolution, but brushing against the black flash carries its perks."
"Even so... If this power has been with me from the start, yet nobody mentioned it, then it must pose a risk at my current stage."
Adam fixed his gaze sharply on Zargos.
"Right?"
"Ha, you think that will hold you back?" He dismissed it with a wave. "True, you were meant to learn of it down the line, but that doesn't matter to me. Go ahead because you're Adam Vinter and because I, your rescuer, require it from you!"
Adam wasn't sure how to respond.
For one thing, Zargos backed him completely, and he clearly wasn't a foe, having pulled Adam from the grasp of the pursuing Lords. For another, Zargos acted impulsively, gambling with Adam's very existence.
However... Zargos had a point.
Now that Adam knew of the Dark Energy, nothing could halt his progress. The transformation was underway.
"Fine, suppose I manage to reach the Dark Energy. What precisely do you expect from me? Do you intend to steal my strength?"
Zargos linked his arms behind his head casually.
"No way, all your strength remains yours. No need to fret over that. I'll draw in your energy, but you'll only suffer deep fatigue for several hours. It'll feel just like coming off a fight where you've drained every bit of your reserves."
After a brief pause, Adam agreed with a nod. He realized that, sooner or later, he'd have to repay Zargos for the rescue. The odds of Morok's scheme working were slim, but even a 10% chance seemed too hazardous here.
"Incidentally, what would you have done if Morok spotted us? What if they figured out someone intentionally snatched me from Ramilo to prevent my capture?"
Zargos lifted his shoulders.
"Not sure, I'd improvise in the clash. But probably, I'd reduce them all to heaps of cinders, though..." His eyes scanned the surrounding jungle. "It'd be a pity to scorch half this splendor."
Astonishment showed on Adam's features. That reply caught him off guard.
'Hmm? Is he saying he'd eliminate them all if pushed? Though given how he held his own against Ramilo in battle form... that's hardly shocking.'
"So... I need to unlock the Dark Energy in my Evolution Tree, and then you'll extract that energy, correct?"
Zargos affirmed with a nod.
"But why do you require it? Will it boost your power somehow?" Adam wondered.
Oddly, Zargos nodded once more.
"At the Second Circle, matters aren't as straightforward for monsters anymore. We face requirements too, along those lines. So, a single drop of Dark Energy from the First Star itself could enhance my abilities."
He clasped his fingers together.
"Normally, acquiring such a treasure means venturing to the remote edges of the Dark Shore or hunting spots rich in potent Twilight Crystals. But why bother when I've got you?"
Adam rubbed his cheek. He grasped all the dangers, but what options did he have? He couldn't simply overlook this fresh power within him, concealed since the K3 Level's conclusion.
Besides, Adam had no other destination. Ramilo had stranded him here, leaving him somewhat reliant on Zargos.
"You seek greater strength, I understand, but you don't strike me as the type chasing power just for its own sake. Is there a motive behind it?"
"Yes. You're an outsider to these realms, so you wouldn't know my clan lacks a leader right now."
Adam cocked his head.
"Are you in the running for it?"
Zargos nodded steadily. His expression held little enthusiasm for the role.
"Is that your drive to grow stronger? I mean, would the First Star's energy let you advance further?"
"Absolutely, I'll gain power, but that's not my main goal. My sister is vying for the leadership too. Keranda—she's one fierce lady."
Zargos flashed a grin toward Adam.
"Essentially, I aim to claim the top spot for myself. All I care about is edging out my sister, even by the slimmest margin. Let her assume the clan head role and handle the tough stuff. That's not my style."
"Ha, you realize you're not acting like a brother but like a total jerk?" Adam laughed lightly.
Zargos huffed.
"Naturally! That's the entire idea!"
Moments later, Adam glanced around.
"What's our next move? Should I enter my inner realm?"
"No need."
Zargos flicked his hand idly while rising.
He brushed off the dirt and eyed Adam with blazing intensity.
"You've just been snatched by a horrifying beast! Bet you're craving some fruit and cocktails right now!"
"Agh?"
